Mobile browser showdown: Archos 5 vs. iPhone 3G vs. Nokia N810

Browser bakeoffs are never without a certain amount of controversy, but we're sort of into Pocketable's latest comparison since the devices on the bench represent three very different points on the spectrum of touchscreen devices. Having used them all, we'll say upfront that the results are surprising: the Archos 5 smokes both the iPhone and the N810, and not always by small margins -- the 5 loaded Engadget 18 seconds faster than the N810. (We did the same test with our 5 and iPhone 3G and the results were basically similar.) Now, that's not to say that makes the 5's Opera-powered browser the best or even the most usable, since in our experience scrolling is painfully choppy and hard to do with the resistive touchscreen, but it's interesting that the hotrodded PMP managed to load pages consistently faster than either the smartphone or the Linux-powered tablet. ARCHOS 5 OR 7 DOESENT SUPPORT 9FLASH YET.......ALOT OF FIRMWARE UPDATES IZ GOIN RIGHT NOW.....BUT DEFFENTLY IN DA FUTURE IT WILL BE THERE....DA ONLI FLASH DEY HAVE RIGHT NOW IZ DA ONE GOOD TO ENOUGH TO PLAY YOUTUBE VIDEOS ON......WHEN THE ARCHOS 5 CAME OUT IT WAS ABLE TO PLAY MUSIC FROM MYSPACE PAGES BUT TOM UPDATED THE FLASH ON MYSPACE NOW........DONT WORRY ARCHOS SOON OR LATER WILL HAVE TO....BECAUSE YOUTUBE WILL UPDATE THEIR FLASH SOOOON

I HAD THE IPOD TOUCH BEFORE I PURCHASED MY ARCHOS 5.........DONT GET ME WRONG..DA IPOD TOUCH WAS A SURPRISING DEVICE FOR ME......WIFI WAS EXCELLENCE GAMES MUSIC AND ETC.......I EVEN JAILBROKEN MY TOUCH....I HAD AT LEAST 5 PAGES OF APPS AFTER I JAILBROKEN....IT WAS FUN.........BUT AFTER I PASS THE TOUCH OVER TO MY LIL SISTER I CANT LEAVE MY ARCHOS ANY WHERE........FOR ONE I BOUGHT THE TOUCH FOR 399${YA THE 32GB}.....MY ARCHOS 5 WAS 339$ AND ITZ 60GB.....THERES NO FLASH IN SAFARI.....BUT OPERA HAS FLASH THOU........MY ARCHOS ACTUALLY LETS ME DOWNLOAD MUSIC STRAIGHT FROM ANY WEBSITE...EVEN PICS TOO......ITS LIKE MY MINI PC......THE TOUCH HAD A FAST BROWSER{SAFARI}BUT SOME SITES WAS SKETCHY SOMTIMEZ IT WOULD JUST LEAVE A BLANK SCREEN.......MY ARCHOS IZ A BEAST ON BROWSING{OPERA}......AND THE FACT THERES FLASH......DA ONLI DOWNFALL ABOUT THE ARCHOS IS THAT THE FIRMWARE NEEDS WORK.....ALOT OF UPDATES NEEDED FOR THE FUTURE......VIDEO FOR ARCHOS IZ AMAZIN 800 BY 480 PIXEL SCREEN......I START TO NOTICE OBJECTS IN SOME MOVIES THAT I NEVER SEEN ON MY TV.......HANDS DOWN THE ARCHOS IZ BETTER
