LG demos 15-inch double-sided LCD
While most manufacturers seem to be working on privacy tech to make LCDs harder to view by anyone not sitting right in front of them, LG is bucking the trend, demoing a prototype that can be read even by those sitting clear over on the back side. Unlike Samsung's tiny double-sided prototype from early last year, LG's shows the same image on both sides, but the 15-inch reflective display's 512 x 384 resolution and 14:1 contrast ratio also reflect just how early this tech is.

I wonder if the image on the back is mirrored from the image on the front? If it is, that will get really annoying, really fast.
is that image from meomi?
Pretty sure that's Pucca, the horrible little girl who's always sexually harassing the ninja in the Toon Disney cartoon of the same name.
This would suck for BattleShip
porn too.
It's a reflective display, meaning there's no backlight.
teh suxx0rz...
(Sorry, can't resist.)
Someone on LG loves Pucca.
dam that 15inch screens nearly a quarter of the resolution of my 9inch eeepc, you could probably see every pixel from the sofa on the LG, no good for standed tv or any use
What's more funny is that LG didn't take the time to flip their logo right-side-up. Or is that logo just reflected from the front?
Oh, snap.
seems like both reflected and upside down to me
i could really see this being useful for a living room where people are facing each other and would have turn their head to look at a TV. It could just drop from the ceiling. the only problem i see is the lack of back light. i don't think a mirror image of something would be that big of a deal for me but i can definitely see it bothering some people.
Here's an idea just take two LCD's and glue them together back to back! Now you can have 1080p and 1,000:1 contrast easily!
This seriously seems like the most useless tech ever.
This is good for anything involving customer service. For example, at Taco Bell you could see as they build your order to verify it's correct. I recently took my pet to the vet and the vet was constantly moving an LCD back and forth from me to him to show me different information.. a double-sided LCD would have been valuable there.
The way I'm understanding this, wouldn't you have to read everything backwards (on the customer side)?
...Oh. Hmm..
*obligatory "when will we see these on MacBooks?" comment*
When will we see these on MacBooks?
/sarcasm
I see you cleverly changed the wording around so that we wouldn't know you double-posted..
You sneaky little.. :)
I did that too sometimes when I thought my post was lost, changed it a bit while it was still the same, although partly because I lost the cached version I also figured that if the original showed up it would be less annoying :)
Sweet... now my wall can watch mediocre daytime tv also! LG, you solve all life's little problems!!!
I think the development goes beyond just allowing your wall to watch TV as well. In terms of public display (I work in Live Events) being able to suspend a single thin screen that can be viewed from all sides has amazing value. Think of all those shopping mall map displays that take up a whole pillar to display - and that are not interactive. Now replace that with a thin, slick sheet that is active (bonus for selling advertising space) as well as take up a tenth of the space. Big use there. Besides that LG wouldn't spend millions of dollars on development if they didn't seriously have a big plan for this stuff... (I hope!)
It would also permit new kinds of tablet/handset display configurations.
I hope this means they are looking for new uses for LCD's for when it'll be obsolete as monitor/tv because we'll have something better than the stopgap LCD's really are.
Nice quality control, lol... look closely at the writing on the set... it is upside down >.
Who let all the morons in.This is early tech and its great ,give this a few years in development and this will surely take off.
