HP announces Pavilion Verde and Pavilion Phoenix eco-PCs, 25-inch display
HP's bringing a little fiesta to the green game this morning, announcing the new Energy Star-qualified Pavilion Verde a6645f (pictured) and the Pavilion Phoenix Special Edition a6655f desktops along with the new w2558c 25.5-inch display. Both the $579 Circuit City-exclusive Verde and $659 Best Buy-exclusive Phoenix claim a 45-percent energy savings over traditional PCs and sport 5GB of RAM, a LightScribe dual-layer burner, and Vista Home Premium, but the Phoenix is the hotrod of the pair, packing an AMD Phenom X4 9150e quad-core processor over the Verdes' Athlon X2 4850e dual-core unit. The w2558 display seems nice and flexible, with HDMI inputs, a 15-in-1 card reader, 2.0 megapixel webcam and multiple USB ports, but we'll wait for specs a little more detailed than "fast" response time and "high" brightness before we plunk down our $599. Both machines should hit their respective big-box stores on November 9th, and the display should be out now -- check it out after the break.

first!
Why do you people even try? Get a life...:P
How do they define "traditional" PC? I mean, they have to be a little more open about what they're comparing with. And how do they save the power? Slowing the CPU?
"45-percent energy savings over traditional PCs" without proof or explanation is BS.
Well it's pretty obvious that they're using low-watt AMD cpu's in both machines. That's probably where most of the energy savings come from.
But 5gb of ram? Seriously? I'm guessing that's either 3 or 4 DIMMS... compared to 2x2gb, 5gb is really useless AND uses a bit more power.
HP, energy star my ass! Even my P3 BIOS shows that energy star logo.
Is it because the BIOS is provided by Phoenix? and that's how you name your desktop?
If somebody is getting me this desktop, may as well get me a bottle of nail polish remover, cause the green stuff is UGLY
No power supply.
Someone needs to make a legit desktop with the dual core atom with a nice graphics chipset that can run in a lower power mode until needed. Thats the only way to get a truly energy efficient desktop. Anything else is silly marketing shtick
Power Savings and Vista are mutually exclusive as should be clear by all the OEMs offering instant-on powered by Linux. Vista's "enhanced security" wastes insane amount of CPU doing needless encryption to protect content providers from the criminals that they have all decided we are. Low Power Vista? Fail! Disagree? Watch the lastest batch of MSFT ads where not only do they omit references to Vista, but they also never speak the word "windows". Heck, I'm a PC too. Because my Linux boxes and MacBook Pro are all Personal Computers.
No one cares what you think.
@Technex
No, but you care what I say, and I prefer to think before I speak. I also use my real name to lend credibility to my words and encourage myself to be respectful to others. But to each their own.
...why 5GB?
