Sony's VAIO TT gets high marks in full review, still painfully pricey
We already detailed the basics of Sony's VAIO TT -- you know, the outfit's slap in the face to the netbook arena -- earlier this month, but the crew over at CNET had a chance to benchmark the unit and toss out some quantifiable talking points. Overall, critics found it just as appealing as we did, but they couldn't help but point out just how debilitating the insane price tag is. Of note, they weren't particularly wowed with the sheer performance, but the magnificent battery life (nearly 4-hours in a video playback drain test) and the speedy SSDs were gushed all over. At the end of the day, this thing is still too expensive for the majority of laptop buyers, but those not alarmed by the $2,000+ sticker should hit the read link for a look at the full writeup alongside a few benchmarks.

I'm just excited for the "How would you change the Vaio TT" article so we can get:
douchebag: "First!!!!!!1!!!11!"
Bigger douch: "First to FAIL!"
iEye: "Make it a MacBook"
idiot #1: "Make it a netbook"
bigger idiot #1: /rant/ "I can't believe this! Why the heck is Sony charging so much for this!!!!!1!1!! I could get an eee for like $399, and it's even lighter!"
moron #1: "Can it play Crysis?"
bigger moron #1 "Why would anyone buy this when they could have an Alienware M17x?!!?"
Amen, brother.
how could your list forget sony fanboys? hey.... i see your agenda there!
you forgot: "woah, they totally copied Apple with that keyboard."
Jesus speaks gospel brothers.
and nobody fucks with the jesus
Jesus is just alright with me
Jesus is just alright, oh yeah...
The Vaio TZ had the isolation keyboard well before the any Apples did. Let's not rewrite history just because Apple made it popular.
lol awesome comment
iEye's comment would be a lot more stupid though.
Customers of the "I am rich" iPhone app are probably going to buy this too.
No, they bought MacBook pro's
parasite, why do your macbook pro comments here keep going on about the macbook pro, when this post is not about a macbook pro?
I wanted to see what being a dumb ass fanboy and flaming other products was like.
you're a little too good at it
I know, I think I understand iEye now, it's addicting! end sarcasm
$2000+ for a sticker?!
$2000+ sticker price. And you say this is expensive, but the MacBook Pro is a good value, give me a break.
WHHHHHHHHHHHHOSH!
He's new, Phan.
your avatar is teh rox0r
yeah phanbuoy, i was thinking "NEEEEOWWW" from jeff dunham! lol
My only deduction is that Lowest Ranked edited his comment and erased half of it after PairofZits pointed out he clearly stated "The Macbook Pro is a good value!"
you have the same avatarz???!??!!11one!
I called "First!!!1!1!!!"
Yes, Testies had it first... but mine's prettier ;)
So your saying MY avatar is like the TT, while yours is the MacBook?
I see how it is...
Very nice hardware; but I won't pay the Vista tax.
Vista will lower taxes for 90% of the population. Vote Vista '08!!
After reading all the comments above me I'm left with either:
- Now I know why I keep coming back here.
or
- Why the hell do I keep coming back here?
certainly! or WTF?
No no Vander; this is WTF: http://marvin.hb0da.org/~beavis/archive/files/wtf.jpg

WRONG!!!
JUST WRONG!!!!!!
OK, I have a VIAO SZ340 12" lightweight laptop that I got 2 years ago. I looked at the specs at the time and thought, "wow kewl, this will be a great computer" so I dropped $2100 on it. In practical application though, the manufacturing quality of the product is something left to be desired. Before my first year was even up, I had the following problems: DVD facade cover broke and fell off, track pad went 'wiggy' and would cause the mouse to run around the screen randomly where the only fix to stop it was to CTRL+ALT+DEL and then quit the Task Manager, power supply died, 3 screws fell out of the back and caused the keyboard to warp, and when you turn the physical switch for the 'wireless off' to the off position, the only way to get wireless to work again is to restart the computer. Geez! They fixed it all under warranty, but within the past year the track pad has gone bad again, the ethernet connection has become unsoldered, and the webcam no longer works. The form factor is GREAT and the options are PLENTY, but it has crapped out WAY too much for a $2100 computer. I won't be buying a SONY laptop again.
I'm really surprised to hear this, because Sony Laptops have one of the best manufacture quality from my past experience. My friend also owns a SZ and he had no problems with it.
Thinkpad.
"The Vaio TT's MacBook-like keyboard"
I thought CNet would know better. Shame on them.
The only people who think a MacBook Pro is too expensive are those people who don't need anything with its technical specs AND physical dimensions.
The only people who think a Sony TT is too expensive are those people who don't need anything with its technical specs AND physical dimensions.
Screw that shit when an X61s is lighter, cheaper and more durable.
Why they change the name to TT?
The price is reasonable considering its high end specs and exceptional build quality. Seeing it in the store though, I can't say the styling works for me. Distinctive, certainly, but elegant, no.
Yeah who wants a big fat ugly VAIO written on the back of their laptop? Ugly design. No sens of subtlety at all.
I just received my yesterday (Sony TT) and this is the coolest Laptop I've ever owned! I wish I hated it so I could return and be $2100.00 richer. Life is too short,, I love this thing.
