Confirmed: Kids like Sugar better than XP

It's hardly a scientific test, but when a Cnet editor's 8 year old daughter was given the choice between an OLPC XO laptop running Windows XP or the Linux-based Sugar UI, Sugar was the winner. As Cnet points out, either OS when properly incorporated into the teaching curriculum should serve the children of developing nations equally well. Only one, however, promises to prepare our youth for middle management.

P.S. Amazon's Give One, Get One program will be limited to Linux according to Cnet and confirmed in the OLPC Wiki -- no dual-boot for you Santa.

As stated by someone else, children are stupid. They don't know what OS they should use. Just as long as they can listen to their Disney shit and look at their dumb-ass American cartoons that make sad attempts to be anime, they are happy.

Sugar is a usability disaster. If you are just playing around with the little programs one-by-one it's fine, but if you actually want to do any meaningful, educational work it's almost impossible to use and very user unfriendly.

Right... so in your words... those VTech computers should be better then, huh? Because this is more like the direct competitor to it rather than XP...

You know what? get any cheap laptop, install morphix kiosk to it with flash and java, make it so it only navigates to www.uptoten.com and then you will have a better experience for kids than Sugar OS or XP.

BTW, Windows COULD have done it right and developed upon the BartPE (a la superwinpe) so this machines had a faster experience to them. And Sugar is great, if anything it just need a bit of more shine and some work around the edges.

BUT this doesn't say anything about the hardware though... I wonder what kids prefer, the Intel or the XO (both running linux or both running xp)...
