NanoVibronix's PainShield MD reminds us (a little bit) of DARPA's
wound-healing ultrasound wrap, but its purpose is to stop pain, not bleeding. The pocket-sized device emits ultrasonic waves through a disposable patch that can easily be slapped onto the patient's skin. The fundamental tech isn't new, but NanoVibronix is hoping doctors and patients will pick PainShield up because it's portable and convenient; the patch means medical personnel don't have to hold or operate anything during treatment. It's just been cleared by the FDA, so it should reach the market soon-ish.
Is that a panty shield?
I need to get one of these next time I want to read Engadget within 1 month of any Apple event...
No, it's for those time when you forget to use lube.
in soviet russia painkill you
disposable patch that can easily be slapped onto the patient's skin.
where does it hurt? here? SLAP!
chronic deskchair ass cramp, say GOODBYE!
Hopefully this can scale back the 'on a scale of 1-10, how much does it hurt' questions. Just slap me with a vibrator and ease the pain.
errr, maybe that doesn't sound right...
So there is no need to worry about your body been addicted to it as in the case of conventional painkiller pills then.
Nothing new. Vibrators are known to have certain effects that can cause you to forget your pains ;)

These have been around for a long time as TENS Units. Just search for: TENS pain
Found one hit on http://www.3dhealthstore.com/category-tens-unit.html.
• Micro-current Electrical stimulation
• Relieve muscles aches and pains
• Portable healing devices
TENS is abbreviation for " Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation " and EMS is abbreviation for " Electrical Muscle Stimulation ". Electrical stimulation for the treatment of muscles aches and pains in the body has been used for many years by physiotherapists. The electric signals sent to the muscles allows for relaxation and healing of the muscles and nerves to happen. Now, you are able to treat yourself at home with the latest in digital TENS units that is completely safe with the approval of FDA, CE and Health Canada.
This product does not transmit electric pulses to the skin, it sends ultrasonic waves.
Next thing you know, they will be selling "the secret" as a religion.
not only did you get that wrong, but i guess your just re-stating "The fundamental tech isn't new" from the above intro to the article, in relation to the correct technology.
cool.
The question i think everyone wants to ask... is it recreational?
yay one step closer to the sonic screw driver
I sure could use one of those for my gaming neck. I'd have that sucker running 24 / 7. The alternative would be just to turn the damn Xbox off, but nah, ultrasonic painkiller it is!!
I would love one these right now to relieve the pain of the ossification on my right forearm. Taking Vicodin is fun but only for about a week. Then it's not fun anymore.
Who seriously believes that this thing works?
How sad.
