Pioneer's 32-inch KRL-32V KURO LCD HDTV gets unboxed
Peeks and glimpses are alright, but we all know those are just the crumbs leading up to the feast. CNET's UK branch was able to grab hold of what appears to be a retail Pioneer KRL-32V KURO LCD, and of course, they paused every few seconds during the presumably mayhem-filled unboxing process in order to snap a few photos and let us all in on the fun. Early impressions were overly positive, with the lucky unboxers noting that Freeview picture quality was "impressive," and that this here set proves that Pioneer definitely "has something to bring to the LCD party." Hit the read link to get yourself all kinds of jealous on the inside.

"This 32-inch model costs around £1,300 and the larger 37-inch model is £1,500"
Cole Mitguard @ Oct 30th 2008 6:05PM
I knew that the Kuro LCD was coming... but I just never wanted to believe it, haha. Is this going to mark the end of the Plasma? I hope not.
Chuckles McGee @ Oct 30th 2008 6:34PM
Nope. Look's like Pioneer's not going Elite on this one.

100hz? What the hell...
a ham sandwich @ Oct 30th 2008 6:35PM
my guess is because in europe, they run traditional tv at 50hz? is that right?
Lowest Ranked @ Oct 30th 2008 8:12PM
Yes, but I didn't see anything regarding PAL or release location until I looked again. It mentions the UK reviewer got hold of it.
SimonRichards @ Oct 30th 2008 6:28PM
Sooty FTW

It's new news to me!
FAUguy @ Oct 30th 2008 6:47PM
One of the pictures show 100Mhz. It would be nice if the US model came with 120Mhz.
d0o0fy @ Oct 30th 2008 7:34PM
let's try 120Hz first!
DarkJesus @ Oct 30th 2008 6:50PM
They didn't try it with freesat?

No thanks, I'll keep my 50" Kuro plasma (its bigger/better). But honestly with the current Kuro prices how cheap are these LCDs going to be? I'm pretty sure Pioneer just wants to compete in the LCD market with the likes of Sony and other high-end manufacturers.
Jason Gurnick @ Oct 31st 2008 12:36AM
Yes.. This must be the overseas model.. What they do is double the scan rate to achieve a "smoother" picture.. I'm not a big fan... 50 Hz > 100 Hz (overseas) 60 Hz > 120 Hz I'm sure there's a US model coming....
Stoo @ Oct 31st 2008 3:33AM
Older than an old thing from oldsville..
"CNET's UK branch was able to grab hold of what appears to be a retail Pioneer KRL-32V KURO LCD"
Presumably by simply walking into any decent electrical retailer and buying it?
As mentioned above, they've been available for months, and at prices from just over £1000 - 1200 depending on where you look..

Nobody needs to see Alan Titchmarsh in High Definition.

SOOTY
Joe @ Oct 31st 2008 4:44PM
I always assumed that a TV advertised as 100Hz over here is actually exactly the same TV as its 120Hz US marketed version, and thus could switch to 120Hz if viewing an NTSC signal.
Or am i wrong?
ian9outof10 @ Nov 2nd 2008 2:14PM
I think you're right. Although not all 100hz UK TVs are 120hz, I'm guessing they will be increasingly, because 5:5 pulldown is winage.
MacroEQ @ Oct 31st 2008 7:46PM
Alan Titchmarsh - What a plonker.
