God damn being in the uk!
Vanillaicde @ Oct 31st 2008 12:06PM
God damn those geo-IP fascists in USA more like.
K-Canuck @ Oct 31st 2008 12:16PM
So much for the "World Wide Web"
Any site that does IP filtering should not start with "www", IMO.
Either make content available to everyone, or don't bother making it available at all. This should go for any media, I would think.
jizm @ Oct 31st 2008 12:26PM
err. spotify, swedvdr, etc?
Rohan @ Oct 31st 2008 1:53PM
Frankly, I think the onus is on Engadget not to post links that only a subset of their audience are allowed to see.
MBS @ Oct 31st 2008 12:32PM
@Vanillaicde: Yeah... I mean NBC should be as open and free like the BBC... Oh wait!
Derek @ Oct 31st 2008 12:44PM
I know right, cause I totally get to watch The IT Crowd on channel 5's website here in America.
aardWolf @ Oct 31st 2008 12:50PM
It's because they don't want to get blown up by Islamofascists...
Ahmed Alzayani @ Oct 31st 2008 12:52PM
can someone from the "USA" download this clip and upload it somewhere else, for the rest of us to see it.
NBC this the internet not the usanet.
Jagster @ Oct 31st 2008 1:16PM
"And only to Real Americans"
I guess only Sarah Palin supporters have access to this video. At least according to her fantasy world.
LondonConsultant @ Oct 31st 2008 1:19PM
You could always buy an unlocked notebook on Tottenham Court Road to
view Region 1 HTTP...
Ahmed Alzayani @ Oct 31st 2008 1:35PM

teej @ Oct 31st 2008 2:06PM

Michael Nelson @ Oct 31st 2008 2:59PM
You're not missing anything...

And I cannot stream the BBC from here in the USA either. So stuff all the anti-USA bullshit.
Obama '08! Woot!
Wwhat @ Nov 1st 2008 7:35AM
obama eh, isn't his VP candidate the one who's been trying to knock more freedom off of internet for ages? I thought as much.
Not that I expect the other side's fools to be better, it's just ironic to mention obama in this context.
And yeah other countries do it too, the 'only country x can seer this' crap, I hate it even if I'm the one that can see it, you can't even share a link with friends anymore.
And why do they do that? Because of rights issues when they want to re-sell shows, but they don't sell conan to other countries anyway, at least not re-runs, so it's pointless and becomes an exercise in being asswipes.
PoisonedV @ Nov 1st 2008 12:46PM
'Geo-Facism'? ahaaha, you've been spending a little bit too much time in thepiratebay forums. Facism is your ISP not letting you watch it. Facism is NOT blocking people from other countries because they won't watch your show and see the advertising that makes you money and lets you broadcast hi res clips for free on the internet.
I guess EVERYTHING on the internet should be available to EVERYONE, hmm? Guess remove any hidden/private sections of forums, make sure no blogs are password protected, no more facebook or myspaces 'friends only', take away closed betas...
Garst @ Nov 2nd 2008 2:44PM
You are trying to say geo-IP fascists are only in the US? BBC anyone?
Raheem @ Nov 9th 2008 2:45PM
MBS: The BBC within the UK and the content generated is funded by the British licence payer. (Television Licence) Whom is NBC funded by?
happy_penguin @ Oct 31st 2008 12:05PM
You're either with us or you're with Zune and the terrorists.
Testies, Testies, 1, 2... 3? @ Oct 31st 2008 2:09PM
Maybe their next terrorist move will be to buy the world's supply of Zunes and hold them hostage, hoping to strike panic in the hearts of those searching desperately for a Zune....

ugg.tryptophan @ Oct 31st 2008 4:06PM
than call me a terrorist cause i love my zune!
UnixSystemsEngineer @ Oct 31st 2008 12:06PM
Well, Conan managed to get a chuckle out of me for once :)
fistpittingnork @ Oct 31st 2008 12:36PM
Thought I was the only one who realized he's not funny.
...at all.
RyanTV @ Oct 31st 2008 1:08PM
Agreed... that was pretty hilarious!
Devils MP3 player! pure genius!
Testies, Testies, 1, 2... 3? @ Oct 31st 2008 2:10PM
Best skit ever in the history of Conan was when he took control of the camera switch box, controlling which camera was live...
ethan @ Oct 31st 2008 9:09PM
He made you laugh for once? You have a horrid sense of humour.
Have you ever watched the third season of Simpsons? He wrote a few episodes. Do you even watch his show? He talked about looking exactly like the President of Finland...he even went to Finland.
Have you ever seen his skit where he plays old time baseball? Have you ever seen him pull the Walker: Texas Ranger lever? You, my friend, don't know funny.
UnixSystemsEngineer @ Oct 31st 2008 3:07PM
Do we all have to have the same taste? I find his humor sophomoric and, worse, extremely repetitive. I was a big Simpsons fan, that doesn't mean it makes his own show particularly funny. The Walker Texas Ranger gag is hit or miss.
And no, I don't watch it regularly. Why the hell would I regularly watch a late-night show that I don't like? I've seen *plenty* of episodes to decide that I don't really enjoy it.
Esat Dedezade @ Oct 31st 2008 4:19PM
I concur with Unix.
petey @ Oct 31st 2008 12:12PM
And they wonder why people rip and put stuff on Youtube.. You know NBC, internet reaches also over 5 billion people outside USA..
John B. @ Oct 31st 2008 12:37PM
Over 5 billion people outside the U.S. have access to the internet? I didn't realize OLPC was so successful...
Wwhat @ Nov 1st 2008 7:43AM
And with those numbers that must include babies too!
Josh @ Oct 31st 2008 12:13PM
I'm usually not a fan of Conan unless Stewart or Colbert are involved but that was damned funny.
Evan @ Oct 31st 2008 1:28PM
What was funny? It's just a blank screen with text complaining about "your region".
JSC @ Oct 31st 2008 12:15PM
NOT FUNNY!!!! Lets make fun with Rapist, Child Killers, And Wife Beaters also? Those people have killed 1000's of people all over the world. I can't see any humor in any of it.
Ryan @ Oct 31st 2008 12:17PM
Boo.
tigurinn @ Oct 31st 2008 12:17PM
Hey, US has also killed 1000's of people!
Brian @ Oct 31st 2008 12:19PM
Yea, because they aren't humans... They are monsters. (Or whatever you need to tell yourself to de-humanize and exterminate them...)
JAmerican @ Oct 31st 2008 12:26PM
@tigurinn
I think you mean 100,000s+ people the US has killed from dropping the atomic bomb TWICE on Japan to invading countries to create puppet governments to do our bidding. Globalization is the continuation of colonialism through corporations.
Bet all the so-called patriots will low rank me for telling the truth.
joe23521 @ Oct 31st 2008 12:30PM
Geez...Do people need to lighten up or what?
kal326 @ Oct 31st 2008 1:51PM
@JSC
Hey you left out making fun of religion, because we all know that organized religion has killed at least 1000. Hell now that I think about rapists and wife beaters kind of go along with organized religion too, HAT TRICK!
PynkFloydd @ Oct 31st 2008 2:31PM
Did you hear the one about the priest and the altar boy?
agiovanni05 @ Oct 31st 2008 2:47PM
Think US is so innocent? Ever hear of a little country in South America called Guatemala? CIA is solely responsible for a decades long war in that country killing hundreds of thousands, if not millions of people all for the sake of US business cooperate greed. Eisenhower was president at the time, look it up. CIA also did a lot to piss off Iran and other Arab nations, like throwing over an elected leader in Iran and putting a ruthless dictator in power, which everyone hated, simply because he promised to de-nationalize the Oil company that Britain had investment in.
If you SERIOUSLY wonder WHY so many Arabs think capitalism is 'EVIL' and think they are unjustified for their hate towards us, then I think it's time to get off engadget and go read a book.
Craig B. @ Oct 31st 2008 8:06PM
Can I have my portion of USAID supplies back please?
Wwhat @ Nov 1st 2008 7:38AM
Yeah I'm sure you can have your 'aid' back, as soon as they pry the fragments from the bodies they'll send it back :/
Christo @ Nov 2nd 2008 9:36PM
@agiovanni05
Try Central America?
miko34 @ Oct 31st 2008 12:17PM
Conan O'Brien is on NBC
Zune is by Microsoft
Microsoft + NBC = MSNBC
i.e. Conan O'Brien is a terrorist? Hmm...
Joe the Plumber @ Oct 31st 2008 12:57PM
Nice logic there, except that MSNBC and NBC aren't the same thing and Conan is not broadcast on MSNBC.
