Intel's Core i7 purchased, overclocked, benchmarked
Looking for the latest in CPU spice to keep your gaming rig flowing? You'd better go find your wallet/purse and head to your local computer shop for a fresh Core i7 (née Nehalem), because they are apparently available for sale right now -- before most of the major sites have even received theirs. User gooddog over at the Overclock.net forums has flaunted posted this picture of his recently purchased 3.2GHz Core i7 Extreme 965 CPU. Paired with an Asus P6T motherboard and running at the stock clock rate it scored a 5,606 in 3DMark06, in-line with what earlier testers found. O/C'ed up to 3.8GHz it delivered a tidy 6,608, a mark that surely gives it control of all benchmarks and, thus, the PC universe.

Fapping at quantum speed.
Why is every computer geek reacting to the Core i7 like Jason Biggs with Shannon Elizabeth? At least have the processor in your hands and not just at the mere sight/thought of it...
how about the thought of Shannon Elizabeth holding the i7 on my lap
*looks down at own pants* Now look at what you've done. :-(
Mental note: Wear diapers when browsing engadget...
Well I guess it all depends.
Depends......
This guy is a fuckin' GENIUS!
Well... by the time I have save money for my computer upgrade... I might be able to afford this... when it drops to $200
I will wait for the 6 or 8 core cpu´s.
Of course, because there are LOADS of apps that are compiled with 12-16 threads.
OH I WORSHIP THE NEW RECORD IN 3D MARK 06!!!
...not. By the way it isn't a new world record, is it?
dude...thats the benchmark for the cpu all by itself without graphics cards or anything. That cpu by itself doubles the 3dmark score of my laptop with an 8600m gt in it :-(
Mine is 5700+. C2Q OCed to 3.6ghz. Basically it means Bloomfield's extreme CPU won't give me any performance boost? Not that I didn't know.
Oh and don't bother comparing to a laptop, Bloomfields aren't going to have a mobile version (there will be a different, less power-hungry CPU late next year for laptops).
What I want to know is how the lower priced models compare against similarly priced options on the market right now..
But then again, it's not like I'm really in much need of a new processor. I bought my C2D e6400 two years ago, and it still handles everything I throw at it.
In Soviet Russia, Core i7 Benchmarks YOU!!!
I'd hate to see your benchmarks...
Someday, when 8-core processors become standard, we will look back at this post and wonder why so many trousers had to be soiled.
...and why so many geeks were going 'commando'.
HOLY F*CKING SHIT!!!!!
Man I wish I could get a pc with core i7 in it soon... Too bad I won't be getting a new machine for college until next year. But at least it will have Windows 7, hopefully USB 3, PCI express X16 2.0, Firewire 800, an Nvidia GTX series card, displayport, possibly a multi-touch 24" monitor, maybe even an SSD (probably like 128GB 2.5" mounted in a bracket-adapter thing to make it fit in a 3.5" bay), most likely DDR3, probably a 1.5TB drive for data storage, 8GB of Ram, maybe (and I mean Maybe) blu-ray, but I loved HD-DVD so IDK if i can go down that route, a really nice case that's quiet and not too big, blah blah blah...
And of course something we can never forget: a nice, fast 3.5" floppy drive, right? Lol
Damn I can't wait until I get to build this machine next year!
HD-DVDs and floppy drives? The hell? Toss in a BetaMax reader and you're set to go.
what was the point of that?
Anyone besides me starting to think that the engadget comment sections are starting to look more and more like /b/? It appears that the cancer is spreading to the rest of the internets....
So will this thing plug right into my 2008 MacPro?
Ah ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha....
No.
Wow! I'd stop to look at the box if ever I'd find one in a store. Looking at expensive stuff is still free right?
Well, at the very moment you make a double-take to look at this cpu, the store manager will come to chop off your arm and take it away. If you decide to buy it, they'll take your leg as well.
What kind of motherboard slot does this take?
I Guess Alienware is going to show off some new desktops tomorrow with these in them. For some reason they send me emails and the last one said " Countdown Till Launch 11/3/08 The Evolution Continues" so I'm just guessing but it makes sense.
wait 6 months before buy for get a good performance/price ratio... In 6 months, im gonna get a new computaaah.
I'm pretty sure their $300 chips have a very good performance/price ratio.
mmm yeah its true, there is one at 300$... niiiiiice!
So can we expect the folks at AMD to pull a "The Happening" when they start seeing the results of these OC'ed marks?
"Reports are coming in of an "Event" happening at AMD's corporate headquarters. Everyone's jumping off the roof!!"
ಥ_ಥ That thing got higher 3dmark06 scores than the GPU I'm currently using. OMG.
Ahhhh... the sooner Core i7 rolls out, the sooner the price comes down on that Q9550 I've been waiting on...

^ the original digg, as linked in the OP over @ overclock.net
i'm going to need $1100... $1000 for the proc, and $100 for the keyboard i just ruined with my drool... i now have to type on one of my older keyboards...
if you look at the picture link some guy bought 5 of the i7's for $959
HOLY SH*T!
LOL.
JUST DON'T FORGET THE BLU GENE!
YEAH!!! AMD going down quickly I LOVE IT!! I have bought intel my whole life and hadn't had any problems. Once I got in the IT field all the nerds and geeks I worked with touted AMD, but yeah, they'll be left behind soon enough! If not by this processor, sometime in the future, their demise IS IMMINENT!! CONSOLE GAMING FOR LIFE!!!!
@EK
Nice to know you work in the IT industry. How is Dell customer service support working for you these days?
If you had any clue then you would realize that the demise of AMD would leave Intel with virtually no competition and and as such: you'd pay more for less since the incentive to better the competitor is gone.
Nice, I have been waiting for this for a while. Unfortunately this is not up on Newegg or Tigerdirect at the moment...probably take another week or two.
Change, Yes (Intel) can!
I have it, and it's pure sexy, so worth the money. The proccessor is just mainly a place holder for future CPU's to hit the market.
But it does rock my socks, Raid 1 on 2 32GB SSD, and my 9 GB 1600mhz Ram. And I get a nice little 9 seconds to boot to desktop. + it loads crysis to max all, with my GTX280 SLI combo. :)
It's OK I'll pay more for less, no problem.......I make more than enough AND as long as it is intel I am IN!!! HAHAHA DELL CUSTOMER SUPPORT HUH? NO try Department Of Defense IDIOT! I am an INTEL FANBOY because I stick by products that have been tried and TRUE TO ME! not news reports or others experiences. Intel has done nothing short of impressed me all my life! Sooo, to sum it up, I don't care what it costs, I don't work for Dell, and Nerds and Geeks bother me. sorry. I gotta go throw around the old pigskin in my $1M+ home, have fun making dumb comments about things you care about, all I care about is INTEL!
