Sony Ericsson's new ad shows off the C905's camera and absolutely nothing else
An ad campaign shot entirely on a mobile phone camera? Well, Sony Ericsson -- claiming to be the first -- has done it, using the C905, ostensibly to prove what an awesome (8.1-megapixel) camera it boasts. The results can be found exclusively in December's issue of FHM, and are what Sony Ericsson Marketing Director David Hilton calls an "amazing opportunity" to "show off the capabilities" of the Cyber-shot. So let's just get this straight: your ad uses a professional model, a fashion photographer, professional lighting, and makeup, not to mention all that retouching, and we're supposed to be impressed with the camera? Okay, we'll admit it: we're pretty impressed.

derX @ Nov 3rd 2008 3:52AM
Exactly. They're certainly showing off some amazing opportunities.
Why am I not surprised this is under the creative genius of a person last-named Hilton?
Regardless, amazing opportunities.

"professional model, a fashion photographer, professional lighting, and makeup"
What do you think fashion photography is? Damn, you guys act like they cheated or something. This is how pictures are taken. I would use the same setup if it were that camera or a hasselblad
iEye @ Nov 3rd 2008 8:30AM
I was enjoying the picture until my eyes gazed upon that hideous phone...
I guess if she was dolding an iPhone this would have been considered as soft core pron!
Chuckles McGee @ Nov 3rd 2008 11:44AM
Mmmm tatas!
joel @ Nov 3rd 2008 1:21PM
Well, cheap cameras will typically yield pretty good results with pro lighting but can't hold a candle in low light. So while a pro camera would yield better results with the same lighting, they definitely put this camera in the best possible position.
ghex88 @ Nov 3rd 2008 1:25PM
It is soooooooo good I can almost lick it.
Yummmm!
BananaBoat @ Nov 4th 2008 9:28AM
She should have given that phone a paizuri. Giggity
Rohit Kapur @ Nov 3rd 2008 3:31AM
I'm sure I'll get around to looking at the phone. . .
Eventually.
James @ Nov 3rd 2008 3:35AM
What phone?
Liam Wolf @ Nov 3rd 2008 3:36AM
It's hiding under the patterned bra.
James @ Nov 3rd 2008 3:41AM
ill keep looking...should be able to spot it sooner or later.
Jeff @ Nov 3rd 2008 4:17AM
Quick question. Does the phone comes equipped with headlight...err, ahem, I meant Xenon flash, Xenon flash ....
Chris @ Nov 3rd 2008 5:02AM
Homer: Do you come with the car?
Girl: oh you. hehehehe
Other dude: Do you come with the car?
Girl: oh you. hehehehe

Oh! It was a phone ad.... I thought something else....
Advertisers should learn Subject and Predicate, before making an ad.. However, this one was worth the while.. :)
zfurie @ Nov 3rd 2008 3:32AM
Picture Perfect. hmmm
On the upper left hand side it says FHM promotion.
So it means that the picture/model has been airbrushed/photoshopped already.
Jakob @ Nov 3rd 2008 3:47AM
No it just means they took the picture with the C905's and added the text.
Liam Wolf @ Nov 3rd 2008 3:33AM
Okay, This makes me want to buy a new phone. So whatever they're doing, it's working.
thedesolate1 @ Nov 3rd 2008 6:57PM
Liam you Wolf you!....
Oh wait, I thought they were aiming for the Hollywood socialite Celebutante market?
You know so they can make more home made pr0n that gets leaked to the interwebs.
"Easier than ever before! Now more pr0n in more places. Take your C905 with you where ever you go for those important moments of hot passion."
johnnie @ Nov 3rd 2008 3:34AM
nice breast
johnnie @ Nov 3rd 2008 3:36AM
oh i mean phone
Patriks7 @ Nov 3rd 2008 6:07AM
Both of them are pretty damn nice :p
YpoCaramel @ Nov 3rd 2008 3:39AM
Well, your typical or even 3MP phone camera probably couldn't pull off full-page FHM shots even with professional lighting and photo camera, so don't hate on the phone camera.
Truth is though, I'd rather have a smartphone. Nothing against the C905 in particular.
ED @ Nov 3rd 2008 3:39AM
There's a few important words missing from the article tags. ;-)
Also, there's something strange about taking a picture of a phone with the phone itself. I mean, with a second one.
Johan S @ Nov 3rd 2008 3:40AM
Oh good, the new Victoria's Secret catalog is finally out.
What are you guys talking about some phone for? Please stay on topic. Thanks.
ArcticFox @ Nov 3rd 2008 3:51AM
Spot the pre-pubescent kids "OMGOMG WHERS TEH PHONE I CANTZZ SEEEEE IT!?!??!?"
Quite impressive quality for a camera phone, despite the fact that the picture will have been touched up post capture.
James @ Nov 3rd 2008 3:56AM
Because you writing that makes you seem so mature.
Shea @ Nov 3rd 2008 4:30AM
uhh... well whatever the case, he's certainly looking a lot more mature than a bunch of desperate, lonely males sitting at home admiring a woman in a MOBILE PHONE COMMERCIAL...
seriously people, grow up.
Liam Wolf @ Nov 3rd 2008 4:48AM
@Shea And you don't admire hunky men like *insert overrated male actor or musician*. I'm sure if their was a male holding it up in front of his penis, and for him to do that it's gotta be really tiny, you'd have no problem with it. I for one am admiring the beauty of this lovely lady. Infact, I wish I could see her face.
Luke D @ Nov 3rd 2008 3:57AM
Aww damn you horny guys... can't you see the engadget gods are trying to bait us?!
No one was biting with the Samsung Omnia post so they post a more titillating Sony Ericsson one straight after.
Now the gods (and the goddess who posted this) are having a hearty laugh at the predictable, perverted us.
Kris @ Nov 3rd 2008 5:04AM
That girl is hot
Sachin @ Nov 3rd 2008 8:53AM
hahaha...titillating.

Sony Ericsson may be the first to do this for a full page ad, but I remember that Nokia did something like this with their N93. I'm not sure if it was full page, but it definitely included a standard-sized print photo attached to the page that had been taken with the phone.
It was in a T3 magazine issue back in 2006 I think.
nick @ Nov 3rd 2008 4:07AM
Engadget you say nothing else? what is wrong with you? Not seeing shinny apple gadgets not sexy enough for you? take a look at the babe there...
Ethan @ Nov 3rd 2008 4:08AM
Did the camera do the airbrushing too?
swingin' dick hero @ Nov 3rd 2008 4:11AM
Whatever.. They are not the first to do this, I think nokia did this a few years back.
shwin @ Nov 3rd 2008 4:13AM
wow.. i wish more ads show "absolutely nothing else" ;)
Shea @ Nov 3rd 2008 4:32AM
seriously, is there nobody else in here who finds this kinda thing absolutely womanizing, sexist, and disrespectful?
or are you all just a bunch of sleazy, lonely, desperate freaks...?
Liam Wolf @ Nov 3rd 2008 4:42AM
"Just a bunch of sleazy, lonely, desperate freaks."
Roger That!
Marc-O @ Nov 3rd 2008 4:52AM
It's an ad in FHM, you genius. It's different from the rest of the magazine... how ?
ArcticFox @ Nov 3rd 2008 4:53AM
Im a guy and i think it is a bit pathetic.
Miguel @ Nov 3rd 2008 5:09AM
Sure.
I also find it insulting when, to sell perfume, a company employs a male model who is "attracted" to the scent.
And shoots him mostly nude.
And then pays him a few grand. And he agrees to it. Like this woman did.
For telling the men here to grow up, you sure a petulant purveyor of the "victim" culture. Grow up. This model said okay, she got paid, and they are SELLING A GOD DAMN PHONE. This isn't Hustler.
nick @ Nov 3rd 2008 6:11AM

Guess what? I am a guy and i think you are a bit pathetic.
jimmyink @ Nov 3rd 2008 6:56AM
What we have here is a classic example of a 'Feminist' (vaginus hatus).
What's degrading about that shot? Clearly you are over-generalizing or under-thinking. Secondly, do you seriously think this is a place for a serious feminist discussion?
Wake up from your asexual fantasy land and realize that sex and desire are not the 'devil' and any representation of it is not automatically degrading to women. Sex just happens to be one of the many natural desires of human beings, therefor, within the context of a men's magazine, what angle are the the advertisers (whose job is to target the consumer's desire and link that with a product) likely to take?
If you are seriously that offended by that image I suggest you unplug you computer, board up your windows and stitch your holes up so that nothing that disturbs you sheltered existence. Not saying that there aren't images out there that aren't degrading to some form of sub-culture, but your over the top reaction is purely based on misinformed fear.
Not to mention you are being highly sexist toward all the males you just generalized.
It's not nice to be stereotyped is it. Stop and think before you say something stupid and you waste valuable time away from something beneficial.
end rant. I need sleep.
ArcticFox @ Nov 3rd 2008 7:51AM
I dont have a problem with the advert, im not naive enough to not think that sex sells, what i do have a problem with are all the pathetic guys trying to be funny regurgitating the same comment over and over again "theres a phone, where?".
It wasnt funny the first time someone said it, let alone the next 5 or 6, just shows how immature some people are by low ranking someone who points it out.
SOOPERGOOMAN @ Nov 3rd 2008 9:26AM
who really cares anymore, that chick prolly makes a thousand times your salary in one day. Ask her if she feels womanized?
Shea @ Nov 3rd 2008 2:17PM
admittedly, you do mostly make valid arguments about the ad itself...
it still doesn't justify the immature reaction it garnered though.
