the xbox 360 is not windows based

@work we use Windows XP (standard w/ IE6) but I have a non-admin hacked FF3 browser. @home my laptop is set up to run both Windows Vista Ultimate / Ubuntu 8.04.
Linux is preferred, but I like Vista.
I totally agree. This reflex readers' demographics.
I've become a big fan of OS X. Part of it may be that my needs have changed (I don't really do any computer gaming anymore), but I find OS X to be a much simpler experience for my home computing needs.
I still spend the majority of my time on XP because of work, though. Never tried Linux.
I'm still using a typewriter.
Windows because I suck at Linux due to my impatient nature and I am too broke to go Apple.
So say if OS X wins or its pretty close to winning, can all you windows lovers finally stop going complaining everytime a piece of apple related hardware or sorftwear appears on the site. Thank You!

In my opinion each platform has its place. My dream environment... Windows Servers for directory services, file/print serving and email, bsd/linux for web servers and sql, and mac OS X for the workstations.
That is the problem with fanboys... no vision. It is either one way or not at all. The nature of IT is to find the best solutions for a given purpose or problem at the lowest cost with the smallest administrative overhead. One OS cannot do it all well...
Its funny how everyone mentions flame wars, but no one is willing to start it....
My work desktop is Linux, my home desktop is dual-boot Windows/Linux, and I just recently bought a Macbook and am trying out OS X. They all have their strengths and weaknesses. Linux gives me easy access to networking utilities, scripts to speed up work tasks, and a dev environment to test things before I deploy them on a Linux server. Windows gives me...uh...games :) I haven't yet figured out OS X's place, I'm still getting used to the different keyboard shortcuts (some of which are inconsistent from app to app).
But the poll is missing my favorite option...GEOS!
if i really knew what i was doin with linux, i'd use that ... but i'm fine with my osx.
I'm linux user and have been for the past 7 years. My personal distrobution of choice is gentoo. I have experience on a large number of operating systems ranginge from windows to most unix systems over the years.
After reading the comments posted here, my personal opinion is that not enough people know about linux to make this poll worth anything other than a massive fireball of opinion and flaming. Just because this is a "tech" website does not mean this is a true representation of what the computer users of the world actually prefer to use. Keep this in mind as you choose to flame your way through the comments. Try to remember to use the brain that is in your head that is possibly more evolved than your ape cousin. Have a nice day.
[pardon the grammar errors please]
I love Linux and how customizable it is, but there is no way I'm using an OS where it takes me half an hour to figure out how to install a game that was MADE for Linux.
I use XP, cause I love them games.
OSX ~ Obama
WIndows ~ McCain
Linux ~ Socialist Party
?
that doesnt work because obama is the socialist party...
oooooh, ouch!
If anything, Linux would be the libertarian party.
Too bad we got stuck with Bob Barr this time 'round. I refuse to vote for that clown, so I voted Obama. Say what you want about him being a socialist, but I fail to see how McCain's tax policy is significantly friendlier. 39% top tax bracket versus 35%? Not a big difference, sorry, and no, I do not make $250k+. I've seen the numbers. (But then again Obama's numbers are fudged too, since they assume you are married and have kids for all them yummy tax credits).
windows is too busy running the world to be bothered by silly phanboy polls. OS X isn't even a remote substitute for Windows. Mad love to my linux people though.
It depends on how you understand Linux. There are different distros for different people and in fact could be considered different OSes.
Really?
Is this really an Engadget post?
Really?
I voted osx anyways.... pfft
OSX, I owned a Windows XP pc for 5 years and it was decent. I also had to restore it twice because it got a virus twice. I bought an iMac ($1200) in July and I love it. I love OSX much more than Windows XP and even more than Vista, I have a Vista PC upstairs (with almost the same specs as my iMac).
There needs to be a OS X/Win, OS X/Linx, Win/Lin, and OS X/Win/Lin choice up there. I use all three operating systems about equally in my life.
I perfer Ubuntu, mainly because to me it is user-frendly, powerful, graphical and, it is fun to hack :D
I am also a user/moder of MaemoOS2008 witch is for the N800 and N810.
And i am also a software maintainer for the Gnome Desktop Environment for the Deblet project at www.trac.tspre.org/projects/deblet, witch is aimed at fully porting the Debian distrobution to the N8xx internet tablet devices.
i wish i could use linux for my daily use but i cant. i prefer foobar and chrome but they're not for linux. i would probably start using linux when there's no need for WINE and the drivers work without me tweaking it.
I use many flavas of linux, osx, and windows....WHAT A CONCEPT!
Recently switched to OS X after using windows and linux since the beginning.
I love OS X cause it still uses the unix command line.
this is like republicans, democrats and undecided
OpenSolaris !
Linux for teH hacking (and PC-BSD)
Solaris for Pr0
double-boot Xp for teh GameZ
How do I compare them ?
Clearly Xp ain't really good but just port all my games to Ubuntu already ! (Wine is still a bit buggy)
They are all good at something I guess...
Mac OS X ..no thanks xD
XP FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fruit Cakes - Mac fanboys.
Penguin Lovers - Linux fanboys.
Windows Users - Normal people who have a real life, as opposed to Fruit Cakes and Penguin Lovers who really only have a Second Life.
yep, as I said, real Americans.
Hmm. Well, now that you've expressed your opinion you'd best go back to the landfill and work work work. That trash doesn't sort itself you know.
You're a twunt.
As far as logos are concerned I really prefer the ancient Windows logo you guys have picked out.
such an over proportionate number of mac users frequent this site compared to PC users, thats why the results are what they are now
lol i know; the voting poll totally represents the actual preferences of people that come here, whoda thunk?
I have a question, Why would you ask this question? You just want to fan the flames...
Man, I've never seen a thread go nowhere this fast
whats the point of all this??? can't you just grab the logs from the servers and post them?
that is unless you wanted to compare reality with wishes, as in more people wish they used linux but instead use windows.
They already did. That's why we have i.engadget.com. iPhone OS FTW!!! J/k ;-). I use Linux, OSX AND WINDOWS!!!! Those of you who are stuck with one OS I feel sorry for ya.
I love Linux to death. End of story.
Yeah. You die...
Have to say engadget congrates on setting up these wonderful flame wars for top notch page views, your ad sales must be going through the roof !
Why not widen the poll to
OSX Tiger
OSX Leopard
Windows XP
Windows Vista
Ubuntu
Red Hat
Xandros
Linux etc.
You're polls are for n00bs !
I don't know whats Xandros but can guess its a variation of Linuxes. I'm a n000000b, right?
Add a chocolate bar to the poll and it will win xD
You're grammar's are FTL.
Simple polls are much more interesting than polls that provide too many options, ESPECIALLY if said polls have overlapping categories like you just proposed. The numbers from that would be completely invalid. Giving a few basic options makes it easier. They should have said "Unix" perhaps instead of Linux so that it would included the Free/Net/OpenBSD folks, but let's get real, there are probably about 2 people on Engadget who use something like Solaris on the desktop.
Who cares about 22.3% for XP, 19.8% for Vista, 21% for Leopard, and on and on?
I can't use OsX or Linux... All the little awesome utilities, that I can't live without, are for Windows... All tech support is for Windows... All sys admins are Windows/Linux... and all Linux admins know server side, but have no clue how to make Linux play DivX movies... And apple "geniuses" are RETARDS (I've tested them)... And most of the apple community starts jerking off to the hella "awesome aluminum design" (instead of "what can it do?"), so I'm just afraid of that sorta OS support environment.
I've heard all the bologna on how unstable XP is, and it's old. I've had the same install on my laptop and desktop for 2 years , and 5 years on my media server; and I haven't seen a single crash, BSOD, etc.
OsX is just too much of a toy and Linux is just not a desktop OS (yet).
