Eizo introduces FlexScan S2432W-H LCD monitor with DisplayPort
It's been a hot minute since we've spotted a FlexScan monitor from Eizo, but the outfit is hitting back today with a DisplayPort-equipped new member in the S2432W-H. The 24-incher includes a native WUXGA resolution (1,920 x 1,200), 1,000:1 contrast ratio, 360 cd/m2 brightness and a response time of 16-milliseconds. You'll also find an ambient light sensor, HDCP compatibility and that all-important DisplayPort. Oh, and for those unfamiliar with Eizo's prices, brace yourself: this one will go for around $938 when it ships in Japan next month.

Why so expensive?
kadajawi @ Nov 5th 2008 10:12AM
Eizo is usually targetted towards professionals who need very high image quality and accuracy and not shiny shiny glossyness.
Jeff @ Nov 5th 2008 10:13AM
Why so serious?
eevan @ Nov 5th 2008 10:14AM
Because it's an IPS panel.
fieldcar @ Nov 5th 2008 10:15AM
As always, if its expensive, ts probably not a TN panel.
MadMike @ Nov 5th 2008 10:36AM
But are they really better than a dell 2408?
Oinquer @ Nov 5th 2008 11:08AM
@MadMike.... No doubt.....go check a store that has them in showroom....it may be hard to find lol
Rhino @ Nov 5th 2008 10:12AM
for EIZO, this is a really cheap price. This unit could be a low level product w/ EIZO. Otherwise a common price will need a 1 before the 9.

I've got an Eizo 24-inch. It's very nice. (Apart from the picture quality, I know other brands have them too, but the ambient light sensor is handy. And I like the way you can make it turn off the power light completely when it's on so there's nothing at all to distract around your image, only a black rectangle.)
And yes, it cost at least half as much again, and wasn't near the top of their range... LED backlit would be nice, for instance...
thedesolate1 @ Nov 5th 2008 10:24AM
Why do I get a feeling that the new Imacs are gonna have the same specs but with LED backlighting?
oinquer @ Nov 5th 2008 11:07AM
same specs has EIZO LCD's? Dream on....lol
M. Scofield @ Nov 5th 2008 10:33AM
That's not that expensive for a new Eizo quality monitor? Or what ..
Kimleng @ Nov 5th 2008 10:52AM
When I saw the sub-1k price, all I could think was....Eizo's bargain bin monitor.
Michael @ Nov 5th 2008 11:08AM
its cheap beacause its not eizo's colour edge range....but whats display port? apple compatibility port????
n.b. i find NEC similar to their flexscan range, are NEC and EIZO same screens amongst that range??
Kimleng @ Nov 5th 2008 12:02PM
EIZO seems to like to use a combination of IPS/PVA screens these days where as NEC sticks to IPS across their entire pro line. Although some people swear only by IPS, if EIZO is selling PVA screens at 2k+ per screen, it's probably as good as the IPS panels for the target market.
Oinquer @ Nov 5th 2008 11:08AM
This ain't expensive for an EIZO LCD...
EIZO is targetted at professionals and even their amateur LCD's are expensive...
If i had an payment good enough to own one i would...
seen an exposition of EIZO's side by side with LG, Samsung and Asus and even tho for normal people like me normal Cheap LCD is enough....image quality in EIZO was kicking ass....and it was an S2401W...not their professional line....would be amazed to check ColorEdge of SX line...
Ohh welll dream baby dreammm

So I know that you can connect a computer with display-port to any type of monitor, but can you connect a displayport monitor to any type of computer?
Evan @ Nov 5th 2008 1:04PM
$938 doesn't surprise me. Cheap monitors are sh*t, and good monitors aren't cheap.
What's the cheapest PVA or IPS 24" monitor? Is it the $700 Dell 2408WFP?
Josh @ Nov 5th 2008 1:05PM
that much for 16ms response time? no thanks.
thethirdmoose @ Nov 5th 2008 2:15PM
What are the actual benefits of DisplayPort over DVI/HDMI? Do we REALLY need a new standard?
Jon Nelson @ Nov 5th 2008 2:36PM
Any chance someone knows where I can find the background to that left monitor? Dayumn!
Jay Evans @ Nov 5th 2008 3:08PM
If my CE240W had only cost $938, it sure would have made the boss a little happier....

I have an Eizo Nanao monitor that I bought back in 2003 (17" LCD), and it's STILL going strong as my main monitor. I paid a premium then, but considering the longevity, it was money well spent. I'm looking for a new monitor now, a larger complement to the 17" Eizo, and I'm seriously considering another Eizo. I've never had another computer component last as long as this monitor, including my previous monitors (I used to favor NEC).
That's a great price for Eizo.
Buis @ Nov 6th 2008 7:41AM
does it have mini-displayport? No? Then here's *another* display you can't use with your fancy new MacBook (pro).
smeden @ Nov 6th 2008 12:05PM
I happen to own one dell 2407 and an eizo 2430w ... side by side... i hate my dell... the eizo is so much better att displaying colors correctly at all levels of brightness. Speaking of brightness, the eizo is both brighter at brightest and darker at darkest than the dell monitor... Next screen I buy, will for sure be an eizo!
CRTguy @ Nov 11th 2008 5:33AM
I still use a CRT monitor, 19" Eizo T766, purchased in 2003. Six months later Eizo ceased production of their CRT monitors. So I'm using the last ever made model of their CRT-line. I think CRTs were phased out couple years too soon :(
I use my computer primarily for gaming and I haven't gone with LCDs yet(if ever). They seem to have evolved primarily in their size and suffer more or less from the same problems than five years ago(contrast, response rate/input lag, fixed resolution and interpolation).
Picture quality is great, of course. Altough I must admit I have never seen Eizo LCD in action, shops seem to have only cheap panels on display and it's hard to judge their quality in brightly lit environment like that.
(AM)OLED panels would solve all the other problems except interpolation issues, but it seems they are still 3-5 years away(funny, they said the same thing back in 2003).
