Netflix bundling 48 hour trials with some Xbox 360 games
It looks like the new Quantum of Solace game for the Xbox 360 has a little something extra bundled in with the package: according to reports, an explosive 48 hour Xbox Live Gold trial membership card with a secret "Netflix code" on the back is included. Nobody seems particularly stunned to hear that the companies plan to aggressively push the streaming movie service when the NXE goes live on November 19th, though no other details of the trial have emerged yet. There does seem to be ferocious agreement, however, that it's at least somewhat possible trials will appear with other high-profile games, too.

Why don't Netflix and Xbox just get a room already?
vvtopkar @ Nov 5th 2008 9:22PM
You're just jealous....
Valicore @ Nov 5th 2008 9:42PM
They don't need a room. They already let it all hang out, and people like it, they like it a lot.

i like this idea. i would love to be able to try out netflix before i pay for it...in fact thats the only way i would pay for it. im not going into this thing blind

They're always sending me stuff for free 2-week trials to hand out to friends and family. Shouldn't be hard to find a trial if you look.
In fact, just go to netflix.com and click "free trial."

I used to buy things and return them if I don't like it.
But nowadays you can't, really. :(
FreeRange @ Nov 6th 2008 9:58AM
I think the only things you can't return are media (movies, games and music) otherwise the 14-day return policy is fairly standard for a full refund. Restocking fees apply for some things but at least you can return it and consider the 10% a rental cost...

So wait, is it 48hrs of Gold with 48 hrs of Netflix? I remember GTA IV came with a free month, no netflix code of course, but isnt 48hrs of Gold a step down from what was once available?
I mean dont get me wrong, 48 hours of Netflix HD streaming would BE Gold. Might injure my comcast cap though...

Don't spam. Its not nice. You could go to jail. I'm just lookin out for ya.
miko34 @ Nov 5th 2008 10:47PM
I still don't know why we need to buy Xbox Live Gold Membership in order to get Netflix streaming on it. We are still using our own internet bandwidth that we pay for and Netflix membership that we pay for.
I guess I just have to do it the old fashioned way with a laptop hooked to the HDTV.
Or ... the "other" way ... if it still works after the update. ;)

I just bought that game yesterday. There is no for code for a free 48 hour netflix. Its a code for 48 hours of gold. All it is is telling you to go to netflix to get a free 48 hour free trial like in the post above.
why not the LS2LS7? @ Nov 5th 2008 11:33PM
48 hour Gold trials are bundled with many games already. And that's all this is. For example I think COD4 had one.
Ayle @ Nov 6th 2008 12:21AM
Wait what? Netflix has a game rental service?
Darek @ Nov 6th 2008 12:25AM
No, but they should.
Darek @ Nov 6th 2008 12:25AM
As has been said, this is just a standard 48 Hour XBL Gold Trial code with a Netflix badge on it. Anyone can go to the netflix site and sign up for a 2 week free trial (http://www.netflix.com/FreeTrialInfo).
As for the new XBOX streaming option, I for one am excited about it. We've been toying with getting Netflix for a while and I think this might be the clincher.
why not the LS2LS7? @ Nov 6th 2008 3:05AM
Sign up for the trial first, you'll rapidly see how little there is to stream on Netflix. Most movies are simply unavailable for streaming.
Darek @ Nov 6th 2008 3:59AM
Yeah, only about a tenth of their library is streamable but those are all the older flicks and TV series that the girlfried is all about. I'm still not sold, definitely going to see what it's like during the trial.
Michael @ Nov 6th 2008 12:36AM
Only need 183 for a leap year's worth of xbox live goodness =)
NeoDarkSaver @ Nov 6th 2008 11:35AM
I think it's just a netflix lael with a link to a 2 week trial, it's on my 13month card too, just a link, no secret code.
Dogsector1 @ Nov 6th 2008 2:07PM
That would be GREAT if Netflix started renting games. I hope they do, and put Gamefly's pathetic attempt at this out of service!!!
