MSI EX623 laptop "rocks" our (proverbial) "world"
Another day, another awesome laptop announcement. This one, the EX623, a 16-incher from the hallowed depths of MSI's genius labs packs an Intel Centrino Core 2 Duo CPU, up to 4GB of DDR2 RAM, a max 320GB hard drive, and NVIDIA GeForce 9500M GS graphics, with a 16:9 widescreen display. The "Bravo," as it's also known, is apparently being marketed as an entertainment laptop (we know this because we watched the super sweet video MSI has up on their site which shows a band totally rocking out), and as such houses things like a Blu-ray drive, an eSATA port, stereo speakers and a subwoofer, though there's no HDMI output and of course the 1366 x 768 resolution won't display 1080p HD. Still, we're pretty sure that "Breakpoint" will have never sounded so good. No word on the price or availability.

i heard 4gb of ram does not work on laptops that are running 32 bit processors and is a waste of money, is this true?
Not true. 4gb of RAM is the addressable limit of memory on a 32-bit system. This includes all addressable memory, such as video card memory and the like, so assuming you have 4gb system memory and a 512mb video card, you will still be able to access 3.5gb of RAM, which isn't exactly a waste of money at all.
Essentially Tilley is absolutely right. The limit however is no longer the processor as most new processors are 64bit thank you AMD for forcing Intel to innovate. For some odd reason companies still think a 64bit compatible system should run 32bit OS.
@Tarnation
That odd reason would be the significant amount of software and driver incompatibility issues with current 64 bit OSs.
Also , not all 32 bit OS's can recognize 4gigs of ram. 32 bit vista does, but Windows XP does not.
sure you can put 4 gigs into a XP machine, but it wont use it all.
@miacane
i think that was the rumor i heard... so tell me if i get this right
4 gb ram:
XP = worthless?
vista = ok
Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard = ok
XP can recognize just over 3GB...
Why do they even make laptops with such low resolution...
So that poltroons can make comments like yours. In the real world, as in actually looking at and working with said resolution, an overwhelming majority of people find that it works quite nicely. This canard reminds me of people who insist their 30 inch tv needs to have 1080p in order to look good. We have gear whores ... I think there should be an additional category called "spec whores."
Because not all of us want to squint at our laptops.
And DPI scaling still looks like crap.
If the price turns out to be cheap, I'd be happy about this because it is providing competition in the notebook market... I saw on http://www.talksony.com that Sony notebooks seem to be offering these things, but the price point is just too high.
ughhhhhhhhhh why the exclusion of the HDMI port?
You can push 1080p over a dsub 15 port - the color spectrum suffers, but you can still make it work.
Yeah, I do 1920x1080 from my HTPC to my HDTV. It looks great.
this sounds just like my hp dv7 'cept the build qualties much better
What a fucking waste of a screen. People should be shot for releasing this glut of low resolution LCD panels.
I don't see the appeal of this considering the Acer Aspire 6930 and HP HDX16 have the same 16" 16:9 widescreen screen but with 1920x1080 options and Geforce 9600M GT options.
Precisely. I've been using a 20-inch, WSXGA+ screen for a year. Now, I would love a laptop with the rest of those specs, but a big low-density, 16-inch, WXGA screen is just painful to use. Especially considering the likely price!
can someone tell me why the trackpad is so much to the left? actually, can someone tell me why laptop manufacturers begin to put trackpad not on the center?
Because it has the numpad on the right. They center the trackpad under the part of the keyboard you use most regularly because that is where your hands are centered.
so your palm is not on it when your fingers are on the home keys
Why have a bluray drive and no HDMI?
