RED teases with yet another mysterious image

The RED folks sure do like to tease out their upcoming products -- and occasionally even lead folks astray -- and it looks like they're really pulling out all the stops for their forthcoming Scarlet and Epic announcements. That includes a slightly perplexing teaser image released a few days ago and now this new, even more confounding image, again posted on the Reduser forums by RED founder Jim Jannard himself. While speculation abounds, no one seems to have quite pegged down exactly what it is, or if it actually is something at all, so feel free to take your own shot at it in comments.

sk8rpro @ Nov 6th 2008 7:36PM

The movie quote is...True Lies!
(01) @ Nov 7th 2008 10:36AM
You're kidding, right? It's obviously an HD Polaroid camera...what else could it be?
AVG @ Nov 6th 2008 5:36PM
The mystery product is Darth Vader.
Technex @ Nov 7th 2008 3:17AM
You work for AVG or something? :D
Abuzar Baloach @ Nov 6th 2008 5:36PM
Digital alarm clock.
Jørund @ Nov 6th 2008 5:36PM
Powerbook g5?
7of7 @ Nov 6th 2008 5:38PM
I'm guessing it's a home theater projector.
HemanC @ Nov 6th 2008 6:16PM
2nd that.
digitallysick @ Nov 6th 2008 6:23PM
Has to be , it says Cinema. Must be a high def projector
mcg @ Nov 6th 2008 8:37PM
Hmm, I'm not so sure. It seems far too narrow to be that. Good HT projectors tend to be boxy.
Besides, they may know something about cameras but I don't think that maps to projection.
Camperton @ Nov 6th 2008 10:23PM
It's says 'Scarlett' on it. The Scarlet is a camera. That much we already know.
jack @ Nov 6th 2008 5:39PM
it's either this scarlet product or the canon 5D MKII that I already have several L-series glass for. I'm leaning toward Canon unless this scarlet truly is a game changer in the biggest, most profound, way.
schtum @ Nov 6th 2008 6:35PM
It says Scarlet in front of the red thing. You can make out "CARLE" easily, and the T becomes apparent if you lighten the image a bit (don't even need photoshop, just highlight the image with your mouse and click in the address bar).
schtum @ Nov 6th 2008 6:37PM
The above trick works in Firefox, IE not so much.
Dizzybro @ Nov 6th 2008 5:39PM
Its a projector, you can see a little lens at the top right, those are probably cable slots in the front
MrFairladyz @ Nov 6th 2008 6:14PM
definitely... also says RED DIGITAL CIN(EMA)
Cordell @ Nov 6th 2008 5:39PM
Looks like a Polaroid camera
Eddie @ Nov 6th 2008 6:20PM
My thought exactly.
barry99705 @ Nov 6th 2008 6:48PM
I was thinking the same thing.
Tyler Murphy @ Nov 6th 2008 5:40PM
Tis a RED polaroid duh
rhino @ Nov 6th 2008 5:40PM
It's obviously a 200 megapixel polaroid camera.
Eric @ Nov 6th 2008 5:41PM
Its... expensive
Valicore @ Nov 6th 2008 5:43PM
I think you're all off. It's obviously a new and improved DHD with haptic feedback.
DirtyVegas @ Nov 6th 2008 5:45PM
It's GlaDOS V2
JoshK @ Nov 6th 2008 5:45PM
The button hints at the "Scarlet" (Look towards the base of the button.)
They said (on the website) that EVERYTHING changed with its design.

Red Needs to Render its Byline Obsolete!
Red Cinema's byline "RED RENDERS OBSOLESCENCE OBSOLETE" is starting to sound a little obsolete. After subtracting all its VaporCine products, there is but a single camera. And in essence, Red has rendered it (Red One) obsolete. Starting last year, Red has been offering to take back all those Red One cameras in trade (some day) for the VaporEpic. But now, before anybody ever even showed a prototype of it, Red announced that it too is obsolete!
So the camera that was going to continue in the tradition of keeping obsolescence obsolete, is now itself obsolete! Who knows, pretty soon they may just decide to render cinema obsolete.
Perhaps it would be a little less confusing (and disingenuous) if Red changed its byline to "Red Renders Obsolescence".
The news psycho buzz head space that Red is trying to occupy makes Apple's accomplishments look positively juvenile, I mean – obsolete. Uh-oh. I fear that I have just made myself an unworthy customer with my "bad attitude". Red is probably about to render me obsolete.
coffee @ Nov 6th 2008 5:54PM
'tis a projector with a large ON button, or it's the Hal9000, either one.
Carl @ Nov 6th 2008 5:55PM
It's a new Polaroid camera.
gad get @ Nov 6th 2008 5:56PM
It's something that requires a big red button.... Perhaps a weapon of some kind? A self-destruct?
