Samsung introduces 23-inch 2342BWX LCD with QWXGA resolution
Are you one of those freaks of nature who prefer your fonts as tiny as possible in order to best take advantage of every last square millimeter of screen real estate? If so, point your retinas to Samsung's latest marvel, the 23-inch 2342BWX. The LCD monitor boasts a thin black bezel, 5-millisecond response time and a mesmerizing QWXGA (2,048 x 1,152) resolution. Just to put things in perspective, that's enough pixels to view two A4-sized sheets side by side with room to spare for Vista's sidebar. Sammy's expected to loose this in South Korea soon for ?399,000 ($315), but trust us, the challenge won't be procuring one, it'll be making sure your GPU can handle it.

moeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee~
Haha.... I know what that means =D
Its so wide, you won't believe what your seeing and you'll get lost inside.
...and the TV is interesting too.
Is it just me or are Korean girls starting to look a lot more Japanese? I used to be able to tell the difference but these days, not so much.
GAAhhh!! soo kawaii!! :D
It's so wide that when you play a widescreen video, you'll get black bars on the sides
hmmm... it's nice if you like chubby pr0n though... Just stretch the videos to fullscreen.
Man, that's so wide, pictures of yo momma could be displayed without shrinking the picture!
uh no? it's 16:9, typical widescreen TV aspect ratio.
@maveric
That's true, however in comparison, most PC monitors are 16:10, and it can be noticably different to some.
I'm still wondering where the hell they got that resolution...really strange one to land on.
16:9 is the new standard, LCD manufacturers are moving to this aspect ratio because it is more efficient (i.e. more profit for us, booyah!) to 'cut'
Kamokazi, you're right that monitors are usually 16:10 but widescreen videos are still 16:9, this will completely eliminate bars
16:9 is very comfortable for most things. 16:10 was introduced as a "transition" for people not used to the wider format. Lots of OS specific things will look great naturally on 16:10 but will need minor resizing to look normal on 16:9. But most video will look better on 16:9. It will not however get rid of black bars other than some 16:9 content. Most films are near to Anamorphic (or more) ratio, which is far wider than 16:9. But we don't really want anamorphic screen because your VHS tape would look like total garbage with that much black on the sides. Anyway, I don't know why I'm saying this. Just a note I guess.
homina homina homina...nice screen.
I was in lab and I showed this to my friends. I told them the price and they asked "I hope your talking about the monitor" to which I could only reply "I just assumed both were $315"
Oh well, still a good monitor and I hope it comes stateside. I can't tell if it's glossy or matte, though...
yeah EXACTLY. I'll give her 23 inches
if there were 20 of me
and we weren't geeks
***cries***
***whilst masturbating***
memorizing or mesmerizing?
This will be great for viewing 2K RED ONE footage on without having to get a 30 inch Display.
Wow, what an incredible monitor. Thats some great pixel density, and only a little bit over $300.
Yeah, if they can stick to that price and release it in the US, that's an incredible bargain. Assuming this thing has decent color accuracy, resolution like that would be great for non-professional graphics designers/photo editors, as well as for business and productivity usage. For the rest of us, there's a hidden cost in that we all have to go out and buy a better video card to run anything at that res, but I'd still be very tempted to buy one of these if they come stateside.
I want Desperately!
It would go great with my wuxga 15.4 inch laptop
I love high pixel densities
"Incredible"?? Why? Obviously both you and Engadget are buying their marketing hype!
2048 x 1152 in a 23" monitor is hardly impressive, and definitely not worthy of the "mesmerizing" title for god sakes..
And "GPU being able to handle it"?? Any GPU that is less than 5 years old can easily support this. I'm also sick of people perpetuating the myth of "high pixel density" = small text. Although our OSs are not yet completely resolution independent, both Windows,OSX, and most forms of Linux can adjust their UI text size to accomodate high resolution screens without having tiny text.
For god sakes, My old 17" laptop from 6-7 years ago had a 1600x1200 (4:3) screen, and my new 17" is 1920x1200. You can even get 1920x1200 displays in 15" laptops now. Why does it seem like we are regressing?? Most external monitors 18-22" are 1680x1050 or lower.. What is up with that?? They should all AT LEAST be 1920x1200.
Also, we haven't made ANY progress on the high-end. 2560x1200 has been available for 4-5 years now in 30" screens! Where are the 24" or 22" 2560x1200 displays?? Where are the 3840x2400 (quad HD) 30" panels?
loosely_coupled
I also do not understand the current low resolution monitors, my 5 year old 12" 1440x1050 toshiba tablet was great, but now everything that size is 1280x800 or so.
I think you can partially blame DVI (my old 24" CRT was 2048x1536, and ran off a single VGA connector, single link DVI has a very limited max resolution by comparison), and consumers complaining that there icons are too small when the OS doesn't scale properly to high dpi screens.
If you want QUXGA (3840x2400) now though you can get it in the 22.1" IBM T221. They are discontinued but you can still find them online, however they are quite expensive and need an expensive dual dual-link DVI card. I use one occasionally at work and they are amazing monitors (200dpi), I have heard Toshiba might be releasing a quxga 22" panel soon (fingers crossed for under 10 grand).
Forget the LCD, where can I get that model of girl.
I want the screen almost as much though....
It took a little bit long for someone to notice the gal. Hmmmm...
My god, I was thinking the same thing...
I want the model too!!
Chris
*Image of female simulated*
Who is that model?? :D
Give me the same resolution but in a 30 inch. Then I'll actually be able to read it without binoculars
I'm continuously amazed how so many people have no idea how to change the font size in their OS.
Why would they know, its easier just to blow all that extra time and cash on a huge monitor.
wow she is REALLY CUTE.
This is the problem with advertising in the Asian Markets. Y'know, products *can* sell themselves. They don't require absolutely shameless model placement.
That model looks like a pre-adolescent boy. What do you find appealing about her?
Ya, if you're a pedophile.
lady boy floyd
Every time there's a hot Korean model in a pic and someone comments about how cute she is (which she always is) there's always a follow-up comment accusing him of being a pedophile. seriously people...
Hey Now!
They are already being sold at Costco in Issaquah, WA for $349.
I don't think my PC can memorize that screen!
The shoes kill it for me. She needs like 4" spikes and a little hip + thong showing. Love slutty asians.
Pleeeeease!!!, STOP comparing her to your mom.
I am on a 22" monitor now, do you people have any clue how small that girl (child) is? Of course they use a kid the size of my foot to try to make the monitor look bigger.
"Of course they use a kid the size of my foot to try to make the monitor look bigger."
The size of your foot, hmm... Are you a clown?
The monitor is thicker than the model. I find that disturbing.
I find your lack of faith disturbing.
Nigs need to get out more if you think that crap is good looking.
I thought the girl was kinda homely, even if Samsung tried to tart her up...
And now we have a new resolution to get confused with.
WQXGA=2500x1600
QWXGA=2048x1152
Good luck keeping those two separated.
actually what's really annoying is how new movies nowadays are using anamorphic widescreen (2.35:1), so you'd STILL see black bars even with that monitor.
the good thing about that monitor is that 2048x1152 is (1.77:1), so it's widescreen ratio, so you wouldn't see any black bars playing widescreen content (1280x720, 1920x1080)
-- 1920x1200 (common 24") or 1680x1050 (common 22") are (1.6:1)
Theres been no noticeable increase in 2.35 AR over 1.85 that ive witnessed.
