Sony Ericsson's W705 Walkman and MBS-900 Bluetooth speaker slide onto the scene
Hey, hey, just as expected out pops Sony Ericsson's latest Walkman from the rumor mill. The quad-band W705 (aka RIKA, the G705 clone) with UMTS/HSPA 900/2100 support shares the same Clear Bass / Clear Stereo audio quality found in the W980 Walkman while packing DLNA-certified WiFi, shake control and SensMe music manipulation, a "large" (uh, hardly by today's standards) 2.4-inch display, 4GB of bundled memory card storage, an FM radio, 3.2 megapixel camera, Google Maps, and an accelerometer for what's quickly becoming a ubiquitous auto-rotating display feature on cellphones. It also packs Bluetooth, allowing it to stream audio out to the newly announced MBS-900 Bluetooth 2.1 channel speaker with integrated FM radio. You know, if you're a fan of compressed audio and short battery life. Just sayin's all. Both will be available in select markets as of Q1 of the new year.

Quite a nice phone actually but I'm not liking the gold accents.
Hotrod @ Nov 6th 2008 10:36AM
It is quite a nice phone with some pretty decent ear phones. That's one thing Sony does right over other phone companies, the ear phones!
Imran, I think the gold is subtle enough to actually make it look better. All in the eye of the beholder :-)
ArcticFox @ Nov 6th 2008 10:44AM
Yeah i dont like the gold either, if they did it like the W580i, urban grey with blue highlights id be all over that instantly.
Imran @ Nov 6th 2008 11:23AM
I'd have to agree with ArcticFox here :) And yes, Sony Ericsson do provide in box the best headphones around, the same model as the Sony headphones I've been using for 5 years!

Looks lovely. With phones like this out there I don't understand why people still buy flash based mp3 players.
Billy Bob @ Nov 6th 2008 8:22AM
I wouldn't use this at the gym, on the plane, on the train, etc.
There's still a market for stand-alone mp3 players.
rt_hat @ Nov 7th 2008 12:41PM
One reason might be :
If your mp3 player battery is drained, you can still use your phone.

Yes, the latest Sony Ericsson Walkman W705 is a music centric handset with a MBS-900 portable device. The Sony Ericsson support 2.1 wireless speaker with bluetooth supports, touch control and OLED screen. Basically this phone will be suitable for young generation or a music fans.
iEye @ Nov 6th 2008 8:04AM
Looks like shite!
Typical Sony style, overdone, number of buttons excessive, screen too small...
did I mention looks like shite?
DH @ Nov 6th 2008 10:13AM
iEye should go ikill-iself.
Apple Fanboy @ Nov 6th 2008 10:14AM
I've seen you on every Sony post. Do you do anything besides troll Sony posts to flame? Did Sony beat your mother when you were a child? You must have a lot of friends. And they're all probably named Steve Jobs and sit as your desktop wallpaper.
Dave Chappelle @ Nov 7th 2008 1:40AM
ye why does he troll Sony posts? he knows Sony >>> Apple.
Walkman sales = 360+ million since the epic product was released around 16 years ago... Apple just cut production of the iPhone ahaha.
and dude you cannot beat Sony. The guy who founded the company STARTED IN A STALL repairing Radio's damn it that is a real success story.
oh and btw Sony made
BetaMax
Personal CD players
WALKMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Memory Stick
Playstation (this was responsible for mass media actually taking an interest in the Gaming Industry)
MiniDisc
DVD (part of a group)
PSP
Blu Ray
some things are part of groups tho, im sure iv forgotten many more
Apple created:
the touch wheel.
OSX (which is insignificant compared to Windows)
so why are a damn iFanboy?
OCEAN 'CLAK' 20th @ Nov 6th 2008 8:49AM
i like it, looks like a tasty fruit,

The phone looks really great but I worry that it will run the proprietary SE OS.
holycow @ Nov 6th 2008 9:29AM
Atleast the proprietary SE OS can somewhat multitask. hehehe! Anyways the speaker looks brilliant, better than the phone itself imo.
Apple Fanboy @ Nov 6th 2008 10:20AM
That "proprietary" OS runs on more phones than Apple's OS or Android. And that's a fact that's unlikely to change for the life of this phone. In a couple years, I'm sure it will change, but hopefully so will Sony's OS.
simon @ Nov 6th 2008 2:34PM
Keep in mind this is not a smartphone. Almost all non-smartphones run some type of "proprietary" OS. BTW I like using WMP11 for managing the music on my W810 - and that's even with the SE "Proprietary" OS.
anebg @ Nov 6th 2008 12:58PM
If it wasn't for the weird headphone jack....
....but I still want it
sony ericcson, i hate you but love you
rufioh @ Nov 6th 2008 1:49PM
The FastPort connector on my K800 is the bane of my existence. The adapters have a tendency to die after a couple of months.
I really like the features of the Walkman phones but I don't think I can bring myself to buy a phone without a 3.5mm jack.
I was going to buy an X1 until I saw that they hadn't bothered with a decent music player.
They have Walkman with a good music player, CyberShot with a reasonable camera, Xperia with a good... um... screen. Why can't we have some convergence!
anebg @ Nov 6th 2008 1:54PM
I own a walkman phone, but it doesn't have wifi or 3g. This one has 3G and wifi and a bigger screen... If this had a 3.5mm..... I would kill for one...
sony hear our cry....
Liam Wolf @ Nov 6th 2008 11:22PM
Is anyone else reminded of the Jetson's for some odd reason? I mean that speaker looks like a robot.
Einstein @ Nov 7th 2008 2:50AM
This looks like a nice phone, but it doesn't have an autofocus camera, and the keyboard looks a bit dodgy.
Why do Sony and Nokia always put out their new phones without just 1 or 2 features that would make them great phones?
