We're sorry you lost your fortune in the global financial crisis, but we've got some news to cheer you up -- you might still be able to plaster your living room wall with HD video.
Epson just launched the PowerLite Cinema 700, a 720p home theater projector that it claims is the first to retail at $799. Sure,
they've made this kind of claim before, and it's true that if you look hard enough you'll probably find a couple other 720p projectors at that price, but we're not gonna make a fuss -- this 3LCD projector is a decent deal, what with it doing 2,000 lumens and having a 2,000:1 contrast ratio. It's already available in Epson's online store -- or, at least it would be if it wasn't sold out at the moment. Guess some other economically depressed folks thought it was a decent deal, too!
If you love it so much, why don't you marry it?
because it might not love you back :(
Best Engadget title yet.
Wow! A post that isn't an advertisement for Engadget Mobile!
If I had a wall that would work with it, maybe I'd consider it. Probably not. Oh well, if it gets cheaper this is good for those who do need it.
This thing is baaadass for $800. I'm still waiting for Black Friday/after drops.
Pretty sure I bought a 720p projector from Acer over a year ago for $100 cheaper than that...
Yeah probably, but it wasn't anywhere near the same quality. No offense to Acer, but they are not an HT projector company, they make cheap data projectors with bad color and lumen ratings.
The real question with projectors is - how much does the lamp cost and how long does it last? $300 every 2000 hours is common..
You lost me at 720P.
If I'm paying to upgrade my gear, it's 1080P or I'll save the money.
Is it me or the 720p is a VERTICAL line count?!
720 is the number of horizontal lines.

It's just you.
Yup! It is just me =) I live in my own little world!! Thanks WiiFTW
"at least it would be if it wasn't sold out at the moment."
...if it WEREN'T sold out...
You might have mentioned the dB it puts out too while you were listing specs, that's important with a projector.
