RED teases again with exposed ports
We've less than a week before RED announces something special on November 13th, but it's not letting you creep any closer to that magical day without two more teases (one after the break) beforehand. As it's already done on a number of occasions, RED's Jim Jannard has posted up a new duo of teasers of the purported DSMC (Digital Still & Motion Camera) DSLR, this time showing off a number of ports that you're surely anxious to slip your connectors into. Oh please, get your mind out of the gutter.

EVE adict.
Cheami90 @ Nov 10th 2008 6:48AM
pretty sure its a frisbee
psfour @ Nov 10th 2008 7:04AM
Looks like they have been made in photoshop and not real pictures
fashionnugget @ Nov 10th 2008 7:06AM
Not photoshop, but some 3d program.
stoo @ Nov 10th 2008 8:19AM
Solidworks IIRC

The stuff I've seen shot on RED's is pretty remarkable. The quality they shoot is really, really nice, and for the price, it's pretty decent. They're trying to bang items into the pro-sumer market, which is quite robust. I'd love to have any RED item.
Tim Spence @ Nov 10th 2008 7:24AM
Am I the only one losing interest with each successive teaser?
I'll still want one though.
Smi @ Nov 10th 2008 7:41AM
No, you're not! I started loosing interest when they just started releasing pointless rendered teaser images.
Lots of promises, RED! Can they deliver? I'm starting to think they can't.
Temple @ Nov 10th 2008 10:19AM
After all these 'teasers' it better not be anti-climatic with just another 3D rendering. They better have an actual camera to show.
the tif @ Nov 10th 2008 11:12AM
I can't say I was interested to begin with, and teaser after teaser has just made me fed up.
Adam @ Nov 10th 2008 7:32AM
Huh? I though RED only makes professional video cameras? This will be their first DSLR am I right? It looks very boxy though.
Boudu @ Nov 10th 2008 10:12AM
It won't be a d"SLR". It won't have a single-lens-reflex or mirrorbox/opticalview finder. Which is used for AF, metering, composition, etc.
The general name for a point-and-shoot camera is called a "DSC" or or "digital still camera". They put an "M" in the middle to signify it does video as well (granted modern P&S do video too).
Basically it won't have decent AF and metering like the modern dSLR, but it'll do video like no other.

If you wanna see some RED camera footage yourself then go to Redrelay and download some clips and some software from RED.

XLR connectors? this should be pretty exciting to anyone who thought the 5D Mk2 needed one.
eric f. @ Nov 10th 2008 9:00AM
The new Leica S series also has one with USB on the other end to shoot tethered.
TVGenius @ Nov 10th 2008 9:17AM
Those are XLR inputs, not outputs, whatever that means. It's a female connector shown there.
AVG @ Nov 10th 2008 8:18AM
This picture only reinforced my original guess of Darth Vader.
Vianon @ Nov 10th 2008 8:20AM
My god, if they keep on going this way, the next pic will be R-rated!
Allister @ Nov 10th 2008 8:25AM
An A and B button? I can't be sure, but I can only guess it's some sort of handheld gaming unit.
Joe @ Nov 10th 2008 9:07AM
If this thing is going to follow in the lines of the Red One, I'm hoping it's going to shoot at or above the quality of a D300, with an HD (or higher) video mode, and include a pair of XLR inputs, at or around $1K. Assuming the specs turn out something like this, I'm completely sold on it. I've been craving a small (compared to, say a Panasonic AV-HX200) camera with good glass, HD video, and XLR inputs. I just hope they can release some solid details before I pull the credit-card-trigger on a D90.
Miburo @ Nov 10th 2008 3:18PM
No way its going to be at or around $1,000 Joe. I would say closer the 5d Mark II's price with A LOT better movie functions and close to d300 functionality digital camera wise

Engadget,
I didn't know you guys peddled pr0n on these pages...
And here I thought you all believed in journalistic integrity.
riccardo @ Nov 10th 2008 9:29AM
nov 13th?? WoTLK is coming out who cares about cameras...
Leejin @ Nov 10th 2008 12:18PM
I know, right?.... Geeze, Engadget should do a piece on Wotlk.
Jayjay @ Nov 10th 2008 10:37AM
Is it some kind of walking clock?
marc @ Nov 10th 2008 11:10AM
The future of tech of film making and photography is here. The Red folks keep upping the ante. They already pushing 4K, so it's just a matter of time before they bring us beyond 24fps.
CripplestiX @ Nov 10th 2008 4:38PM
You mean something crazy like 30fps?
marc @ Nov 10th 2008 5:18PM
Double that number, smarty pants. James Cameron has made a good case for 60fps. It would be more suitable for 3D shooting and provide a more realistic viewing experience.
EddieBear @ Nov 10th 2008 12:42PM
Is it a book?
nickq @ Nov 10th 2008 3:34PM
can it blend?
Rahabib @ Nov 10th 2008 4:13PM
RED the Apple of videography. Somewhere someone is drooling and they have no idea why.
Vwampage @ Nov 10th 2008 4:47PM
I went to RED's site through the read link, and at the top of the page in addition to the picture there was a link that read "a taste".
I clicked it, and the page loaded again, this time with the rest of the forum comments.
The kicker was that in between the first page and the forum page I saw a polaroid-esque camera done up in RED styling. Like the first picture with the thing that looks like the bumper, just expand that to look like a whole polaroid.
aznofazns @ Nov 10th 2008 5:05PM
please stop with the lame sexual innuendo engadget. nobody wants to hump usb ports, pcb's, etc.
gettingmymacon @ Nov 12th 2008 8:13PM
