AT&T Quickfire is, as promised, available

As previously foreseen, the UTStarcom Sidekick knock-off Quickfire, also known as the Knick, is now available online and in AT&T stores. It's quite a deal for new subscribers -- $99.99 with a 2-year contract, mail-in rebate (ugh) and promotion card -- or $299.99 without any of those discounts. In case your memory stinks, the Quickfire is a 3G device with a 2.8-inch, 240 x 320 touchscreen display, full QWERTY keyboard, and support for microSD cards up to 8GB. You're probably not reading this anymore because you're already on your way out to get one, right? Hello?
[Thanks, Jordan]

GO ENGADGET! Go run out to an AT&T store. I want to see a review.
Ill give you a review....... Proprietary connections, yet comes with NO accessories. No headphones, no data cable. Only a charger. Here's the real gem, ATT has NO accessories to sell for the phone! so you are SoL in those cases atm. The phone itself isnt bad at all. not too bulky, nice keyboard, touchscreen doesnt suck, but i have yet to try out video or audio on it. The phone has lots of potential, but the lack of cables is maddening.
Here are all the accessories :-D and discounted too!

Phone is new, thus accessories will not be there. Plus it is a messaging/texting sidekick competitor, most that use those phones don't care about the cables.
damn kids who dont care! *shakes fist*
Um....I'm going with Mia on this one. Given the type of phone and assuming it's as proprietary as MIa said, a data cable and headset/phones should be readily available upon release. Dare we imply they should be included?
How will you fill that up-to-8gb micro SD card if you don't have a data cable? Are microSD card reading PCs that ubiquitous (yes, yes, cheap readers to be had, but that smacks of forced kludgery).
An un-boxing we need. Mm. Yes.
My microSD card that I bought at Fry's came with a miniSD adapter, SD adapter, and a USB adapter.
$25 two years ago for 2Gb. Now you could probable much more storage for that price.
Yes, $10 gets you 4GB micro SD card on sale...
and about that phone...
looks much better than the G1... but I am sure the UI makes the overall phone SHITE!
(((((((shields up))))))))
Amazing, iEye didn't mention iPhone. Guess he must be in Google fanboy mode...
This phone looks really slick, but looks way to much like a Sidekick. Teenage gossip-filled keyboard happy girls rejoice!
Went to ATT site just to see it, can't add a data only package to this. The sidekick can do data only, they want to compete they need to make it take data only pda/smartphone plans, maybe the site has a glitch.
It's not used for that. It's assumed only it's MediaNET service, SMS, and MMS would be the primary use.

Nope
i would get it if it wasnt soo childish
i like the pantech duo ......update please :D
Way to go Engadg only a week after everyone else reported.
I notice engadget is slow in reporting sometimes to.
But we still love them.

Hmmm Does this baby run a good OS or is it a Custom Built one?
proprietary OS. has an apps menu on it so im wondering if you can load stuff on it, perhaps like opera mobile..... as the phone has no HTML browser
@ MiaCane
I'm running Opera Mini on mine and it's fantastic.
@whip
oooooooo interesting. this makes me wonder what else can be loaded onto the phone.
Damn at the proprietary OS thingy.. Wudve been good if they ran a Windows OS or a Symbian.. more apps and such.. The things got quite a decent screen size and resolution ..
Hope it works good with Java atleast.
That would have made it a smartphone, thus negating the "dumbphone market" it was being launched in alongside the Samsung Propel and Pantech Matrix and Slate. Not to mention making it much more expensive and requiring massively overpriced data plans.
meh, i still love my tilt! :)
I love my Tilt as well...but it's starting to show some age.
It's nice having virtually every feature of a smartphone, but the Tilt is so bulky that it was never was a 'pocketable' smartphone..
Seeing the new crop of smartphones (bold/e71/fuze/etc..) jam the same features in a sleeker form makes me want to dump my tilt
I cant justify getting rid of my tilt yet. It has done everything i need over the year ive had it but it is looking quite outdated compared to everything else. I would have loved to try out a g1 if it was out on att until windows mobile 7 is released.
I just upgraded to the Fuze from my beautiful, lovely, sturdy Tilt. Needed some change but itl sure take some time to forget about the tilt and get on with my Fuze.
One of my friends is picking this up today. she is in love with this phone.
so much going on with sidekick and subsequent killers... I thought everyone in the world now owns either a blackberry or an iphone, well at least here in LA. Still i'll take anyone on with my n95-3.

whoops, sorry, Verizon has taken over AT&T as N. America`s largest wireless provider! Jim Cramer interviews Verizon`s CEO:

My wife wants to look at this phone, the only problem is its not available in any of the local AT&T stores. They said they might get it next week, one place said the end of Nov
Where is the 640x480 screen?!
...on less than 3 inches?
Why!?
Its staying away to keep the price down.
My HTC Touch Diamond has a 640x480 screen. I can read the MSN homepage without zooming in. I know, keeping the price down is important, it's just that I could never ever go back.
it's been out for a week now,
Nice phone,
The screen is capacitive touch like the G1 and Iphone
it has it's own OS, but you can run Opera (java)
can this be confirmed anywhere? if you can load mobile opera thats nice bonus ad the phone only comes with ATT's mediaNet browser.
you just go to mobile opera's website and down load opera(java) and it works.. i was running pages on it's 3g
It's definitely not capacitive touch. The touch screen is incredibly unresponsive.
yes it is,
It's not capacitive touch.
ugly.
or you could not be a huge douche and just get the Fuze.
Or you could not need a smart phone and save money by getting this.
i guess so, but saving $200 over two full years and getting a highly inferior device seems quite silly to me. It's not like you have to be a C+ programmer to work the Touch Pro, nor do you technically need a pricey data plan.
Besides, isn't this a tech-blog? Not really the place to be hawking gadgets for your 12 year old daughter... oh wait, that would explain all the iPhone posts.
Of course if you buy the Fuze, you are spending $299 as opposed to $99 on this phone and with the data/messaging plans, $35 for the QF and $50 for the Fuze. over the course of the contract you pay $360 more in data/messaging fees with the fuze, but you have to add on the initial price of the phone. The total cost difference is $ 560. some people might not want to spend that much extra on a phone that does more than they perhaps need, especially in substandard economic times.
Didn't realize that AT&T forces people into a ridiculously overpriced plan for smartphone subsidies. $50 additional for data??? Wow, that's anal rape. I'm with Sprint, so I don't have that problem. I think I had to get either a $20 data plan add-on /or/ any "Simply" plan, but there's not much difference in monthly cost between plans. After an argument with retentions, I'm virtually getting the Simply Everything plan for $69.99/month, which was sufficient to subsidize my Diamond. Nor do I think that Sprint makes a distinction between smartphone data plans and dumbphone data plans, but I might be wrong about that.
so a "Simply Everything" plan (equivalent) on AT&T costs $150 if you have a smartphone or iphone? Allow me to rephrase...
"or you could not be a [sucker] and go get a [Touch Pro with Sprint]."
30 for the smartphone plan, but for the sake of the comparison for phones, $35 gets you unlimited text and data for the QF. the equivalent for the fuze on ATT is $50. And yes, sprint is a HELL of a lot cheaper with the $99 everything plan. ATT and verizon customers get the shaft when it comes to plans compared to sprint. But its a known fact ATT and verizon think sprint is wayyy beneath them and deserve no respect. so they dont compete with prices
My 3 year old V3 needs to be replaced. Do I get a V3xx to replace it, or look elsewhere. Daughter has the Shine, which she says is OK. Really don't want to have anything to do with iPhone/Apple. This would be good, since I seem to be texting more and more, thanks to a son with his SideKick.
The +s for the V3xx are than I already have the cables, software and stuff. The -s are that it's showing it's age.
