Cisco teams up with Yankees to bring HDTV experience to the new stadium
The new Yankee Stadium is going to be all tech-ed up by Cisco, according to an announcement made by Hal Steinbrenner on an impressive telepresence conference call this morning. The partnership has already yielded about $15 million of wiring and infrastructure for the stadium, with more promised. So what does this mean for you, the rabid Yankees fan, at the game? Well, they're calling it a new "fan experience," but for now, it essentially boils down to 1,100 HD video monitors all over the stadium doing things like playing "interactive" video, giving stats in real time, and offering the ability to do truly wild stuff like order concessions from your seat and see how long the line at the nearest bathroom is. If it sounds too good to be true well, it's not -- kind of. Most of these features will supposedly be available when the stadium opens, though only in the luxury boxes... but Steinbrenner claims that infrastructure is already in place which will allow the stadium to provide these extras for everyone in the house eventually. We also hear there's going to be WiFi throughout the stadium, and that one 16 ounce Budweiser will run you $24.50. As long as we can count on them to use those thousand monitors to get people to do the wave while listening to "Cotton-Eyed Joe," we're there.

It doesn't matter to me anymore when ticket prices will probably hit $50 for just the bleachers. It's not worth it to go to watch a Yankees game anymore.
especially for a 3rd place team. Maybe if they were the Yankees of the 90's but that will be a tough team to beat
Wow once you do the conversion that's like $20/ ounce in Real Beer.
@Kevin: Bleachers are and will still be $12. However...
"The New York Yankees will charge $500 to $2,500 for seats near home plate in the first five-to-eight rows of their new ballpark. They already have commitments from ticket-buyers for all 122 of the front-row seats."

That bat... It's wearing a hat!
Your powers of observation are amazing.
I think that using a Bat in a Hat would be detrimental to a batter's aim.
The age old question... who would in a fight between a bat in a hat and a pair of crimson socks?
Lately... the crimson socks!
....who most recently lost to sunshine.....
when did mascots get so.... fruity?
they need to also get on board and offer the nintendo fan network that the seattle mariners use.
pretty neat idea and would enjoy bringing my ds into the stadium after the train ride and it have a use that doesnt detract/distract from the game itself
I thought the Mariners had that because Nintendo owned the mariners?
Either way, this is all good, but honestly, anyone who can afford luxury boxes in the new stadium probably has more than enough HDTVs at home....
I think I'll go to the stadium once in the first year and then not again for a long time. Ticket prices will be outrageous and watching it from home in HD is sometimes just a much better experience.
AKA always a much better experience. But I'm in the same boat, next time I'm on the old coast I'll go to a game. I'm happy I was able to make it to Yankee stadium last year before it closed.
SO the yankees are getting a new high priced add on. I can assume its not made in america like most of their players.... I kid! I kid!
ooOoo the Yankees!
I'd rather yell at a quarterback to throw the ball and watch cars drive in circles for 4 hours than watch a Yankees game.
Red Sox fan?
Yep. I live in Pittsburgh, but since the Pirates suck, and I liked the Red Sox since I first learned about baseball, I choose them :P
I knew it!
You, sir, have excellent taste in sports teams.
So that means the monitors wont work half the time and they will need to hire a full time regiment of engineers to make sure it all runs right. Sorry just venting from my piss poor experience in dealing with cisco products.. especially their pos phones.
PLEASE tell me that 24.50 Budweiser crack was a joke!
...please?
Hope its a joke too. lol
At least they used a good beer to make a joke about and not miller or some other crap
16oz of beer would only be worth that much money it if it was like Aventinus or something.. maybe Delirium Tremens :)
well, if you can't buy a championship, you can always buy 1,100 HD monitors...
GO CARDINALS!
can i hear fans yelling A-ROD SUKS from this HD set?
Maybe they should have spent that money on better pitching. LET'S GO METS!!
i wonder if citi park will collapse in september too
They should have invested that $15 million in a new bullpen, so you know, to actually make it to the playoffs the next season. Just sayin'...
No idea why they're putting Wifi in the park, since they won't let you in with a laptop.
Found that one out the hard way last year. Their suggestion was that I go leave it in the bowling alley across the street.
No thanks.
You know, the old stadium BANNED laptops...
@max the Laptop ban was part of their overly strict post-9/11 security measures which also banned backpacks, yet not also adopted at Shea.
They've had enough time to develop a secure stadium that doesn't need as strict measures as the predecessor. If they still ban backpacks and laptops, then there is a problem...
