Samsung U440 / Cleo drops by the FCC

Looks like Canada isn't the only country out there getting kisses from Cleo. According to documents recently filed with the FCC, the sassy cellphone looks set to emerge Stateside on Verizon with the decidedly unsassy designation U440. Will the stylish phone -- with its full QWERTY keyboard, 1.3 megapixel camera, A2DP stereo Bluetooth, threaded SMS text messaging and up to 8GB storage -- make its domestic debut soon? Not soon enough, we think!

errr....i think the propel is better than this ....or it just looks nicer :D
SEND...END
how many think this phone is stylish?
how many think this phone is fugly?
1 for fugly :P
2 for fugly
2 for fugly! :D
3 for fugly
total chick phone. can you see a construction worker popping this open looking like he's checking his makeup? maybe if he were in the village people...
x for fugly
7(?) for fugly. That is a very unappealing shape, it looks sorta *waves hand vaguely* morbidly obese.
Not my thing, but my girlfriend was salivating over it. It looked pretty, had a full keyboard for text messages, and was nice and compact. Plus it's not considered a smart phone and here in Canada it's hard to find a good qwerty phone that isn't tied to expensive smart-phone plans.
Good lord Samsung! When people refer to clamshell phones that is supposed to be a *metaphor*!
I suppose it's the same principle as the old fruit-colored iBooks. Clamshell, toilet seat. It's all the same in the end, right?
What an ugly POS.
Looks like it should have makeup on it's inside, and a mirror. Who came up with this design?
Just imagine how a guy using this phone on speaker on the palm of his hand would look.
I'm pretty sure its aimed at girls, not guys.
@soulsaber
im sure there are THOSE people :P
I'll just use my GameBoy Advance SP.
Good luck trying to make a call.
I understand the need to keep products at a low price point, but why does it seem that cell phone manufacturers still insist on odd design choices and horrific UI's? WHY? I mean microsoft jumped into the mp3 player market pretty easily with its kick ass zune.
Samsung and most cell manufacturers act like old people driving on the freeway, everyone blows by them, and they don't even flinch.
And, like the Renault Cleo, is frumpy and awkward looking, but possibly awesome on the inside.
Or like my neighbor.. she is quite ugly from the outside.. but from the inside, its purely awesome :p
It's worth trying just because of the 8 Gb Storge. That's surely a first.
I actually think the phone design is decent for a different type of phone. I feel like it has the ability to catch on.. but it won't. Reminds me of the fat iPods nanos.
Oh em gee! This would go fabuously with my Prada pocket blush.
They already have it here up in Canada at Solo and Bell. Not as if you'd want one...
I was looking for the 'Craptastic' voting title to the article.
Oh I get it... I say it is shite! and everyone ranks me down.. but anyone else says its fugly they get highest ranked!
SHITE SHITE SHITE SHITE SHITE!!!!!
(((((((shields up))))))))
That's because everyone hates you. With good reason.
And that's as much as I'll feed the troll today.
You spelled shit wrong.
is this a gift card too?
It's not that ugly. They just need to change the color. That's all.
I can see it now: "Oh dear, Eliza is talking to her compact again... better call the electro-shock man, you know the number don't you dear
?"
Now I see Samsung has finally taken the word "clamshell" way too far...
LG Lotus beats this hands down in terms of both looks (even though it's still ugly) and from the looks of it, useability. I got to use the Lotus at a Sprint store recently and it was quite easy to type on due to the bubbled buttons. These appear to be flat with space between them, which I've always had problems with.
Is this photo recovered from 1998?
This reminds me of the communicator Vanessa Williams had in the 3rd Rock From the Sun episode where all the hot chicks are trying to take over.
gameboy sp, you changed?
Doesn't Sprint have a phone like this? Like, exactly like this?
Crackberry killer!
Looks just as ugly and pointless as this cell from LG:

WHY do they think that a clamshell phone with tiny little buttons would be a good idea? Who (Besides a 5 year old or little person) could possibly type on that properly??
I have fairly large hands, and as I stated in a comment I made earlier, I had no problems typing on the Lotus. I found it easier than the slider types (Samsung Rant/LG Rumor form factor.)
Are these out in Canada? I swear my friend has one...
I like the look of this, and I'm.. let me check.. yes, male.
