V-Moda's Vibe II, platform shoes not included

There must be a fashion-forward young man or woman out there brave enough to sport V-Moda's new Vibe II with Microphone. These stainless steel alloy headphones follow in the footsteps of the popular (and much better looking) Vibe Duo and feature the noise-isolation, in-line handsfree microphone, call and music controls that we expect from the line. In addition, the 'phones possess "solid and tactual sensation comparable to the finest jewelry and watches." Right. If you'd like to see for yourself, these beauts are available for $128, exclusively at the Apple Store.

His iPhone is huge.
Valicore @ Nov 11th 2008 4:31PM
My first thought too. Either that, or he's really tiny.
Killian @ Nov 11th 2008 4:41PM
you know what they say about the black iphone
phanbouy @ Nov 11th 2008 4:44PM
...it gets bigger bars of reception?

It's the iPhone before Chuck Norris compresses it in the Apple Factory. It's how the kitten looks after Steve Jobs has done his part with it.

Yo baby, I got a PhD. It's a pimpin' ho's degree. Don Magic Juan rocks.

These have to be the worst earphones I ever owned. The sound is very muddy and muffled such that I couldn't bare to listen to them. I had them for two days and quickly returned them for a refund. iLounge gives them a glowing review and in the past I have believed those reviews but after getting a pair of V-Moda's based on that I won't be paying any attention to them anymore.
My advice stay away from V-Moda their crap!
noyp @ Nov 11th 2008 10:12PM
The original vibes were good, then a hardware change killed the sound quality.
Mrmeku @ Nov 11th 2008 4:25PM
if these werent so hideous id love to have them. I really want some nice quality headphones that still have that mic and clicky thing attached. Looks like im waiting for apples in ear headphones
Lowest Ranked @ Nov 11th 2008 4:56PM
Apples in ear? That sounds painful.
UnixSystemsEngineer @ Nov 11th 2008 5:07PM
Do the original v-modas have a mic? I know the earbuds are much better looking, just can't remember if they have a mic or not.
lowdef @ Nov 11th 2008 5:37PM
I have the originals. there are $99 ones with a mic and $79 without a mic I believe. I had the ones with the mic. Sound quality was absolutely amazing, but as I have found out, they had faulty drivers and lots of owners had either the left or right driver fail within a year. Maybe these are built better...still hesitant about buying another vmoda product.
aecsuper @ Nov 11th 2008 8:40PM
skullcandy makes good iphone headphones.
telepheedian @ Nov 11th 2008 8:50PM
And Bose is the best value per dollar, for everything they make.
/sarcasm

Wow, I'm glad I'm not the only one who got screwed with the Vibe Duos. My left bass driver died without warning a few weeks ago. That, and the cords seem to be disintegrating! Oh well, these new ones are so fugly, there's no way in hell I'd buy them anyway. Still waiting for the new Apple in-ears to see if they're any good.
lowdef @ Nov 11th 2008 9:03PM
hahaha from what I gather we are not alone. The cloth cord was a noble idea but form>function in that regard...
Temmy @ Nov 11th 2008 11:26PM
bought my chrome vibe duo's two weeks back. i got them replaced YESTERDAY cuz the right driver died. i've heard reports for anywhere between three months and one year, but two weeks? gimme a break.
telepheedian @ Nov 12th 2008 2:37PM
So the cloth cords fail on these too? I've run through 2 sets of the Zune Premium headphones.
Boarderwoot @ Nov 11th 2008 4:26PM
How can you justify spending more than 20 bucks on headphones that offer no noise cancellation.
Colin Potter @ Nov 11th 2008 4:46PM
How can you justify spending under $20 on anything electronic (media excluded of course)
Kamokazi @ Nov 11th 2008 4:49PM
Any in-ear design is essentially passive noise cancellation. Any headphones you see claiming noice cancellation without a battery powered box attached to emit a counter-signal are also using passive cancellation. Active cancellation headsets typically start north of $100, and there are a LOT of headphones and earbuds between $20 and $100 well worth the money.
BratPAQ @ Nov 11th 2008 5:02PM
you already spent hundreds of dollar for iPhone and you'll kill its potential with a crappy earphone? you should have just bought one of those crappy phone mp3 player that is coupled with crappy earphone.
From My Cube @ Nov 11th 2008 5:08PM
How can you justify spending money on anything? The earbuds that come with any music player are generally crap, the aftermarket ear buds are amazing....try it sometime before you go bashing on other peoples spending habbits
UnixSystemsEngineer @ Nov 11th 2008 5:08PM
Colin,
In-ear headphones simply kick ass. How do you pay more than $20? For quality 'phones. Why on earth do I want to lug around noise canceling headphones with requisite battery pack when I can get much better quality all around out of earphones?
UnixSystemsEngineer @ Nov 11th 2008 5:10PM
er, meant to reply to Boarderwoot not Colin. The first few words of both their posts were the same so I confused 'em.
noyp @ Nov 11th 2008 10:04PM
Don't forget that active noise canceling only blocks out constant noises like fans or engines.
From My Cube @ Nov 11th 2008 4:27PM
I absolutely love my V-moda vibes...Im using them as I write this but these new ones look ass ugly...Common, give us the modern look but not the skull-candy crap look....not all of us are 14 year old snowboarders
J. A. Golden @ Nov 11th 2008 6:38PM
I heart mine too, best sounding in-ears I've had, and scarily good noise blockage for something without a big ol' battery pack (or a $300 price tag attached).
I'll buy these new ones as soon as I get my Escalade with spinnin rimz. Which will be nevah.
Forris @ Nov 11th 2008 4:32PM
I wonder where in China they found those ugly cheapy looking earbuds. They look like shit!
mcdizzle895 @ Nov 11th 2008 4:32PM
I have never seen the word "beauts" until here. I have heard it 1,000 times, but never saw (or imagined) how it would look spelled out. Neat! Go engadget!

He's fitzin' tu raise up and get his buds on.
erebus @ Nov 11th 2008 4:36PM
50 Cent?
Rob @ Nov 11th 2008 4:38PM
Hmmm, uglier than the original. Let's hope they've at least fixed the astronomically high failure rates this time around (see reviews on apple or amazon to see what I'm talking about). I returned mine twice, and the 2nd pair is faulty out of the box. I've given up on this company.
david gregoire @ Nov 11th 2008 4:49PM
I had the Vibe Duo's and they just didn't sound very good. Not to mention while sharing my pocket with my iphone, the metal texture on the headphones put a nasty slice across my screen. Stay away
Homeboy @ Nov 11th 2008 4:54PM
Epic photo!!
Where can I get my hands on his novel-sized iPhone?
BratPAQ @ Nov 11th 2008 5:04PM
it looks like something from transformers.

Dr. Dre's headphones are much, much classier.
http://reviews.cnet.com/headphones/monster-beats-by-dr/4505-7877_7-33192353.html?tag=mncol;lst
telepheedian @ Nov 11th 2008 8:03PM
Exactly. Even Dr. Dre can design a classier looking pair of headphones than these. What were they thinking?
noyp @ Nov 11th 2008 10:02PM
Classy wouldn't be my first choice to describe how they look.
telepheedian @ Nov 12th 2008 3:23PM
Classier, not classy.
Jon @ Nov 11th 2008 5:17PM
These earphones are hideous. Was there anything all that wrong with the look of the originals?
CharleStephen @ Nov 11th 2008 5:59PM
OMG, I'm so mad about VModa. I had the Vibe Duos with a mic and the clicky button. I bought them last year in October and I have had them replaced FIVE TIMES. Why? Because they have horrible wiring such that a short develops at the place where the wire joins the connector jack for the iPhone. I've written so many letters and they still refuse to just give me a refund. While these were undoubtedly the best sounding earphones I have ever owned, being required to repeated send them back to VModa for repair 4-6 weeks after receiving them is unacceptable.
