DIY SNES alarm clock is kind of cool, truly alarming
Oh, look -- another SNES mod. This one's actually pretty cute and useful in theory -- an alarm clock! The finished product is completely functional, though we're not too psyched on the sound of the alarm. Then again, we've never heard an alarm we were super stoked on, so it's not this inventive chap's fault. Hit the read link for full instructions on how to make your own, and take a peek at the clock-setting action in the video after the break.

w00t! Nice mod but its a bit bulky.
Yeah because its a SNES....
@rippinhonda:
I really don't think you got the joke...
NICE
State of the art technology the way it should be.
please add price this gadget, thanks ;)
so ... does he have to blow on the cartridge from time to time
and for some reason i expected to see super mario theme song
Laura, isn't it past your bedtime?
Finally the day came!
Does it not bug anyone else that some really cool retro console has been broken:( or is that just me?
I'm with you. Definitely a down-grade in functionality. Turning something LESS advanced than an alarm clock INTO an alarm clock . . . that makes sense. But this mod doesn't.
Now it would be really cool to add an alarm clock (with radio wake or MP3 option) into the SNES internals. Use it as a regular SNES with game carts, then insert the Alarm Clock cart when using it to wake you up in the morning. Maybe a battery backup to save your alarm settings when the cart is not in use?
Shouldn't it be possible to create a NES alarm clock cartridge in exactly the same way, without having to mod the unit at all?
You'd sell a truckload :)
I'm waiting for the travel alarm clock in a Gameboy Micro.
It's called a watch. :P
Too be honest: I completely forgot about the micro until you mentioned it.
I never realised how ugly NA SNES' were.
If only he made that with a PAL/JP one... :(
The alarm noise should be the 'Hurry up!' music from Mario World

I would've been really excited if it were anything close to a Clocky...

(Seriously guys, every electronic device worth a function has a clock / pulsemaker inside it... It just depends on how you use or reuse it.)
That's definitely a really cool mod, but I haven't used anything other than a cellphone as an alarm clock in quite some time. Oh, and that thing is bulky as all hell, which would not work well with my ever increasing propensity to drunkenly pass out on my couch, haha.
I am most impressed by the fact that the cartridge still ejects. Plus I figured the reset button would be snooze, but that's not evident from the video.
I like this blowing idea, but what i really am waiting for is a display of inventory for Doom.
No wonder I can't cope with horror films: I actually felt tense wating for that to go off.
Would be more impressive if the cartridge was a self contained clock and didn't require ANY mods to the console/controller but you could still set the time via controller and throw in clock display over ntsc for good measure.
I think that a possibility of both a functioning alarm clock and a working SNES are possible. This is a very cool idea, and with a use of some other tools (a battery would be in the works to keep the clock going) it would be a good idea to have the cartridge with all the data and the system work as normal.
Heh, didn't expect to see this here. I know the guy that built it, we met at a 2600 meeting. If anyone wants to digg it:

At least it doesn't zap you to wake you up. I know you kind of expect a link, but the alarm clock wasn't suppose to do that. I wasn't even touching it and it was zapping me. That freaked the crap out of me.
