Nokia "Wahoo" 3G half-QWERTY flip swings into view
We didn't see this one on our exhaustive leaked Nokia roadmap, but our homeboy Boy Genius has uncovered pics and specs of a new Nokia flip destined for AT&T. Codenamed "Wahoo," the quad-band clamshell features an interesting half-QWERTY keypad, an internal 2.2-inch QVGA display and a 1.36-inch external unit, push-to-talk, microSD expansion, and A2DP support -- which you'll need because Nokia seems to think a 2.5mm headphone jack is still somehow acceptable. No word on a release date, but if you're waiting on pins and needles for a phone with a display that small we really can't help you anyway.

from the side that looks strikingly like a razr
i really wonder why motorola didn't come up with such an awesome design, i mean honestly, how hard can it be, they are the inventors of the razr, after all. but then again, had motorola designed the 'wahoo', their cell phone branch would probably still be making profits. a child could have figured, that after inventing an iconic design, like the razr, you need take it to the next level by enhancing its features: make it thinner and wider, not thicker and more narrow, like motorola did with the krazr.
Razr Clone
Just this time, Nokia has a much better product, which will last some time, has a great UI and is not aimed at 14 yr olds..
Certainly a nice looking phone.
I'm sure they'll be some happy users for this one.
What the hell is a half-QWERTY keyboard?
I know Nokia means well and all, but if someone gave me half a sandwhich, I'd be pretty upset that it wasn't a whole one.
2 keys per button, like a blackberry pearl
nokia, are you kidding us with these qvga displays?
Yeah, because it makes such a lot of sense to have UWXGA on a 2.2" screen.
I'm all for high-res screens, but anything more than QVGA is a simple waste on such a small size.
Well it's great that people are waiting wvga from market leader, but VGA screen on 2.2inch screen really dosen't make much sense. Especially when this phone by looking at the features will be for the budget or norm phone :)
Normal 2mp phone that's probally directed to some heavy texter rather than web browsing. Thought how will this win compared to E63 or it's sexier sister E71. But then this will probally be only for North American market looking at that design.
i don't see whats wrong with VGA on a 2.2 in screen. if i can't see the pixels, i consider that a good thing.
From the side it looks like a Razr and the keyboard looks like a complete RIM ripoff.
Nice to see a non-chunky Nokia for a change but they should really work on making Symbian work well, it's interface needs modernising.
Nokia's smart interface is what helped Nokia wins it's commanding market share in the first place.
RAZR design + Nokia buzz radio...
what ever happened to FasTap
i poo poo on this...
Yes, we know it's not an iPhone iEye..
But I would much rather poo poo on an iPhone.. as would many others here..
poo poo on iEye
iEye, do you know it's better to be highly/highest ranked than low/lowest ranked? (From the comments you are still making, it seems as if you prefer to be low/lowest ranked...)
And what exactly, is wrong with that?
It's too bad that Nokia is selling this design wise razr copy to Americans as this will probably be again one of those only sold in USA phones.
Why don't they sell those phones via AT&T that where huge hits in Europe and Asia and sold tens of million like 6300 and 6500s/c for example.
They can't win by copying razr in it's home country... or actually anywhere in the world. People surely still remember it even if Moto is dead in Europe now days.
Phone looks ok and will be cheap phone and half qwerty sure is wierd one in Nokias line-up, but needs 2.4 screen. Will see what's the price point.
Because AT&T apparently doesn't want them.
There were spypics of an Cingular-branded N80 version - never came out. There was an customized E71 in the leaked list from yesterday, which was a finished proto almost a year ago, so it has been cancelled as well. AT&T also didn't take the E71-2, the N95-3 or -4 either, and there are no rumors that they will take the N85/N96 NAM...
It's not like Nokia isn't trying I'd say...
A better question would be why doesnt Nokia just sell the phones to whomever wants them let instead of having some phones avaailble unlocked in one country and not another, if there sold everywhere its a sale regardless and that equals more money for Nokia
I think this would make a nice little regular phone, provided it's priced accordingly.
Great, this is the opposite of where we want to be. We want to be killing the Razr, not making new clones of it, ffs!
"Wahoo?"
Ahhh... the day when they run out of catchy phone names, I will laugh, very, very loudly.
It is in the roadmap actually. Read the one with half QWERTY in 6650 body for AT&T. Quite a match, IMO.
what's after 'wahoo'?
woogle?
At least it's not called WAZR.
At least there's not a overused "i" in front of it.
Is this going to be an S60 phone? Or one of their S40 or other Symbian variant phones?
I think it'd be interesting as an S60 phone...
Yahoo phone
Someone commented on BGR that this has been cacelled. Who knows.
Think I'll wait for the next N series flip or just go with the only other N series phones you can get, either slider or candy bar.
Though since I want a high resolution camera, don't think flip phones really offer that....unless you're in Asia.
On a side note, in Best Buy's ad they had a N96 on contract with T-Mobile for 600 dollars
Wah, QVGA web browsing suckage.
Uhmm..... Razr? :)
