Samsung dishes out five new SyncMaster LCDs
At this point, the whole subtly curvaceous / glossy black motif on the SyncMaster line has become a tad unexciting, but we suppose it still gets the job done. Today, Samsung has unleashed five new ones to chew on, and if you weren't an expert on spotting differences in dimensions, you'd have a tough time telling them apart. For starters, we've got the 15.6-inch SyncMaster 633NW and 18.5-inch 933SN, both of which get stuck with just a VGA port and a 1,360 x 768 resolution. Movin' on up, we see the 20-inch 2033SW (1,600 x 900) and 21.5-inch 2233SW / 23-inch 2333SW (1,920 x 1,080), all of which tout a 1,000:1 contrast ratio, 5-millisecond response time, 170-degree viewing angles, DVI / VGA inputs and 300 cd / m2 brightness. Expect the whole lot to show up in Japan within the next month for ¥18,000 ($187) to ¥30,000 ($312).

So um... is that quoted price fixed?
Tarnation @ Nov 13th 2008 9:49AM
LOLz
Flashpoint @ Nov 13th 2008 9:43AM
I'd pay even more for this if Samsung would take the Samsung logo off the bottom.
holycow @ Nov 13th 2008 9:58AM
...and slap on an Apple logo? Oh, wait then it would cost atleast twice as much. No, thanks.
Flashpoint @ Nov 13th 2008 10:04AM
When you buy an apple computer you get an apple monitor.
I'm not interested in apple products that much. I'd just like to have a nice monitor without logos.
MikeWard1701 @ Nov 13th 2008 10:17AM
Aint gonna happen. You can pay car companies for "dechroming" where they leave the model number off your car, but you still get a badge on it.
iEye @ Nov 13th 2008 11:23AM
Yea, GM should think twice about that gold bow tie, perhaps if they left it off it would help them sell more shite chevrolet cars...
zoopthegame @ Nov 13th 2008 4:11PM
everything looks better without a logo. less pretense. less flashy. pure design and functionality.
but at least the samsung logo isn't as stupid as the DELL logo or as flashy as a huge-ass TOSHIBA on the back of your laptop or a VAIO.
the samsung logo is very low-key, and clean.
the worst logos are DELL(where the e was clearly skewed in adobe illustrator and smashed together with all the letters), and QOSMIO (made to sound cool to 13-year-old boys.)

Let's shave of some pixels, slap a HD logo on there and resell the same product. God when are we going to see led back lighting at this price. Maybe when the evil witch thinks she has milked people enough?

I've got a syncmaster myself... got it for the real cheap on buy.com actually. It's a pretty good monitor, extremely bright.

yeah i do to. ive got a nice small one for the dorm room. i must say, i really like samsung monitors and lcd tv's. they're always beautiful, have great picture clarity and brightness and don't break the bank (too much). i always recommend them to friends and family. from what i've seen with the number of connections they usually have and overall product quality, they're top notch.

Can we have a discussion where someone doesn't randomly pull Apple into it? I love Apple but holy shit.
r3loaded @ Nov 13th 2008 10:23AM
Not with iEye and Flashpoint around, you can't.

iEye is Steve Jobs' gimp.
milton arcos @ Nov 13th 2008 10:36AM
Do these also buzz/hum when you set the brightness level below a certain level?
Tim @ Nov 13th 2008 10:59AM
Panel type? Really, how many times do people have to ask before you start including it in the post? :-|
nick @ Nov 13th 2008 11:12AM
They usually don't state it because so few panels are ips anymore. I want an LED backlit IPS panel for less than 600 dollars, preferably 24" widescreen at 1920x1200. Mostly because i'm going to rip it apart and make it a touchscreen to command my robot army, for I am THE MECHANIZER!
ZaxCG2 @ Nov 13th 2008 11:24AM
Just remember to take your pills before doing so, nick.
cromas @ Nov 13th 2008 1:21PM
If the viewing angle is 170 (not 178), it's probably a TN =(
Adam Zey @ Nov 13th 2008 1:29PM
I'm quite happy that they're finally pushing resolutions up at smaller sizes (typically, 1920xSomething is only available at 24"+, with 22" being 1680x1050).
However, it would be nice if the 22" display was 16:10 and not 16:9; I'd rather have 1920x1200. If you're doing something 4:3 on a 16:10 monitor, you can always do 1600x1200, as that's a pretty standard resolution. However, you might have more trouble with 1440x1080; that's a bit less standard.
Wwhat @ Nov 13th 2008 2:44PM
1000:1 contrast? That's so 2 years ago.
And VGA ports? Let me guess, they found an old warehouse with monitors they made 3 or 4 years ago and now the money is scarce they try to sell them for some liquidity.
Nc @ Nov 13th 2008 3:42PM
Sweet - Samsung was talking about these at Next08, and now there are proper specs.
Just 3 more months until Euroland release :)
Cliff @ Nov 13th 2008 4:05PM
Why is it that as Samsung makes better monitors, their stands get worse and worse... no tilt/swivel or height adjustment makes me a sad panda.
Backlin @ Nov 13th 2008 7:45PM
What is up with all of you pandas?
Anyway, I noticed too that Samsung doesn't have the best stands. And while not timeless, the cosmetics of this monitor beat out a lot of others. They've been using the bottom dip since the CRT days (the CRT I'm using is obviously ready to die now, it's about seven years old).
RD. @ Nov 13th 2008 6:02PM
Is it possible to get lower-end? Maybe a cardboard box with a hole cut into it?
