Mr. Blurrycam lives!
I think this picture was taken with a pinhole camera from an F-16 flyby.
No, that's his cousin, ShakyPhone II
You mean Ryan Block is taking pictures for Engadget again?
the mgs4 one is backwards compatible? are they still able to be found for sale? i was thinking about buying one but in the end i decided not to but the backwards compatibility might make me rethink it... since i got a broken ps2 and alot of ps2 games.... that would be like a 3 for one for me blue ray player... ps2... and ps3 in one.... ahhh my heads gonna explode.... i just know for sure i want blrue ray capabitily for myself and a ps3 or xbox360..... waiting to see if any real black friday deals pop up so i can take the plunge...
You should have picked up the older 80Gb at SonyStyle for $250 over the last few months.
The 80 gb MGS4 bundle had backwards compatability, the 40 gb bundle did not though. The former models are available.. but for a real premium. Retail was $499 i believe, and now you'll be fortunate to find one for $600
Good. Good.
Now the price Gouging is complete...
and apple doesn't do that?
I think he meant to say: Finally, everyone has jumped on the price gouging bandwagon that Apple started
I just bought the 40gb one and put a 250gb HD in it (=
just curious, how much did the 250gb HD cost?
just curious, how much did the 250gb HD cost?
250GB should be around $70
The 60GB PS3 is the bestone. El Perfecto. Good thing I snapped one up about 7 months after it released.
The 60GB PS3 is quite a bit noisier than the 40GB and 80GB models. Even then though, the extra card readers, PS2 backwards compatibility, and 4 USB ports make the 60GB better.
I would disagree, I recently sold my 60GB launch unit, and with the money raised, bought a new 80GB unit, another 3yrs warranty and 2 games.
Sure I lost PS2 compatability (almost certain to come in software emulation soon, seeing as PC PS2 emulators have reverse engineered PS2 to run), SACD support (can live without), few less USB ports (hub), no card reader (buy a USB card reader).
The reason it's much better, is because it's totally silent in operation, runs much cooler, and draws less power (~110W), and is generally manufacturered better.
why the heck do people buy the 160? buy the cheapest and throw in any hard drive you want. mine was the original 80 and nows it 320
For those asking "why would anyone buy the 160GB PS3 instead of upgrading the drive themselves?"
Sad but true, some people either:
A) don't know they can do such a thing or
B) don't know how to do it
Metal gear soild 4 bundle pack is better than this, 4 usb ports, backwadrs compatible, 80gb
You are correct sir, that it why I bit the bullet and bought it before it was discontinued. =)
$500 on a gaming device.. wow, simply wow. I realize that it does have the Blu-Ray support; but I don't know what Sony was thinking here.
I paid $499 for my 80GB last year and am very happy with the purchase.
Just think of it as a $299 Xbox but with 3 years of free online, wireless and HD Optical disc. Works out the same to me.
i bought mine in august 2007 for 899 canadian
You buy xbox, you end up paying the same, if not more, once Microsoft start the nickel and diming...
Only idiots look at raw price tags. The PS3 is really good value, with free online, better features, better games. Sure you have to pay a bit more upfront, but a couple of years of 360 Gold membership, and any advantage is lost, yet you still don't have HDD, Blu-ray, Wifi....
Drake's Fortune indeed: his 401k, his IRA, his bonds, and his paycheck. C'mon Sony, please make the price not painful to look at.
Only idiots look at the raw price label, and ignore the free online, the integrated Blu-ray, Wifi and 160GB HDD...
Once Microsoft screws you over for pay to play, any cost savings on the inferior but cheaper console, is long gone. You want quality, you got to pay for it.
Typical American attitude, thats why you automovie industry is down the toilet, cost down/qualitydown....
Didn't Sony say something about a price cut in 2009? The PS3 could sure use one.
I'm pretty sure they said no price cut for a very long while... Oh well I'll just hunt for the 60gb model on ebay and put a 200gb hard drive in it.
KILLZONE 2 FTW, and other amazing exclusives after they start marketing Guerilla Games killzone engine on other 1st and 2nd party Sony exclusives its game over boys, seriously ps3 is the way forward i got rid of my 360 cause i got tired of how the crapy its built, got a ps3 and it satisfies all my gaming, media needs, except sexually oh wait mp4 pornos for the win too.
Most artistic blurrycam photo so far
Man, get off this "free online" Crap ya'll feeding your selves.. It doesn't match up t LIVE at ALL. If it did, then you could say something, but it doesn't, so dead that statement.
Here's my "Thatcher" statement:
"There will be Mountains of ps3's through the holiday season, and few will be buying because of the economy. The masses will flock to the 360 instead because of the "entry" price, and the library. Expect sony to announce the ps4 in the spring of 2009 which also calls the end of the ps3. Expect most 1st party titles for the ps3 to move to the ps4."
If you don't think the ps3 lost by now, Then you are truly the Mindless Sheep that sony strips its wool off year after year.. It's almost impossible to catch the 360 right now. Especially that the ps3 install base is divided by people that want a blu-ray payer, and people that want a "Playstation". Reason being, gamers want a console that plays GAMES. "Chough!! 360, Cough!!"
No BLOG want's to talk about the attach rate of the ps3, because the truth will hurt. Most of my friends have all three consoles, with the 360 as the Primary game console, the Wii for parties and the kids, and the ps3 as a blu-ray player. And that's the TRUTH. And I'm sure they're not the only ones.. My boss has a ps3 ONLY for blu-ray. He has NO GAMES at all for it... But his 360 has a game library!
Just fess up already.. blu-ray won the hd battle... Some of ya'll can admit that you copped a ps3 for a blu-ray player. it's okay to break the hearts of the sdf..
They're mindless sheep anyways!
There won't be a PS4 next year, Only Microsoft have the track record of dumping consoles, and moving on, like they did for the Xbox.
I would expect a Xbox replacement in 2010, rushed out, unreliable, and feature lite(again). PS4 maybe 2012/2013 with a proper next-gen.
The PS3 has all but destroyed the 360's 18month headstart, so you can see all the Xbox retards coming out in force and making crap up...
The PS3 is the best console peeriod, it doesn't have been sold. Like some other's have said, it is an entertainment power housse, you can hook an external hard drive up and play media from that, browser, downloads,, processor power, and games, just everything, I can charge my sidekick on it. The reason for its lackluster sales is the price, and its always been the price, especially when you could get a Wii for $250 and an Xbox for a lil more than that. The Wii is a novelty console to me, and a kid's console. The 60GB and 80GB version of the PS3 are backwards compatible. I have the 80GB and all the PS2 games III tried to play on it when I first got it, worked so. I would love to have the 160GB version, but I paid over $400 for the 2 I have now, I'm not spending that monney for the same system. If it was a PS4 ok, but not for the same. And who says that the PS3 has mediocre games? How is that? When it pretty much has the same games as over consoles, with the exception of a few exclusive titles. The only thhing that Xbox has is Halo, that's it.
Sony made 2 mistakes, that they continue to make with this beauty of a system, the pricing and not wanting to pay for exclusivity. They should have paid for Grand Theft Auto and Guitar Hero to be exclusive to Playstation, that would have been money. And if a PS3 costed $199 like the XBox now costs, do you know how many people would have a PS3? And realistically, seriously, a PS3 is worth $400, I mean the Blu Ray player alone is like $200
Have already played Drakes, and replaced my standard 40 gig HDD with a 250gig notebook drive for less than a 100 bucks.
Thanks anyway
People keep talking about how great the PS3 is and how it's the best game console on the market. Yet if you look at the information that Sony gave us, you would all be pissed off. Where are all the 1080P games? Where are the graphics that will blow the other consoles out of the water? Yeah the graphics are good, but they can be duplicated, if not improved upon on the other High End Console. I'm won't debate the price point, because, yes bang for the buck, you get more with the PS3. The major problem for me and most of the gamers I know, is that we aren't given a choice on what we want and don't want in the machine. Blu-Ray functionality is nice, but as most Blu-Ray machine reviews will tell you, the PS3 doesn't have the best picture quality. It's nice, but not the best, most tests place it squarely in the middle of the range for picture quality. 2nd, the hard drive. Thank you for including the hard drive, but considering what the OEM cost is on 2.5 inch hard drives, it would be nice to have a larger one. Backward compatibility is a must have for me. I don't have a ton of space, nor will my Wife allow me to hook up older consoles in the bedroom, so I must conserve space. 3rd, I don't need, nor do I use wifi. It is unstable, easily hacked, and prone to disruption by things such as higher end cordless phones, and in my house, apparently, the microwave. That is approximately $15 they could have shaved for me from the device cost, which would (if companies weren't so damn greedy) equate to a price reduction of about $50-75. I have a PS3, but I don't own a lot of games for it. I have played all but Resistance 2 of the PS3 exclusive titles, and they just don't do it for me. I'm certain that things will get better, but as of right now, for the average gamer who is on a budget (and a tight one at that I might add), we can't justify the added expense. By the way what games are native 1080P right now, not upscaled from 720P? I'm not trying to be an ass, I'm genuinely curious on that last question. Thanks
Here's something to ponder...technically speaking the Wii is comparable in graphics and hardware to the PS2, right? So since the PS2 is still selling fairly well, doesn't that mean that the 140+ million units sold puts it in 1st place? Then is the Wii "last" generation or is the PS2 "this" generation?
