Sam's Club Black Friday Wii deal too good to be true?
The phones at Engadget HQ have been ringing off the hook with reports that the incredible Sam's Club Black Friday Wii deal spied the other day was, in fact, not all that it seemed. Apparently, due to a Photoshop disaster or related incident, someone swapped out the actual deal price ($425) for an amazingly low $224. We'd say this was a closed case, save for the fact that the page carrying the updated "correct" information is now down, and all we have left is a paltry Google cache link. If anyone out there in magical, mystical Internetville knows more, feel free to drop us a line.

there's practically no savings now, in fact it's a rip-off cause you get two games not worth buying
brandon @ Nov 15th 2008 6:25PM
This is all bullshit!!!
Techie @ Nov 15th 2008 6:32PM
There goes my chance of owning a Wii for X-Mas, thanks a lot Sam's Club you fing sob!
Chris Are @ Nov 15th 2008 6:40PM
I know right? Go from $224 (awesome deal worthy of Black Friday) to $425 (in no way a good deal. You can get a MUCH better deal on eBay, and those asshats gouge you during the holidays.)

@Techie:
pray tell... how is someone else photoshopping it make it Sam's Club's fault?
JohnTitor @ Nov 15th 2008 11:57PM
actually I think it just increased your chances of getting a Wii, cause it won't be sold out
phinn @ Nov 16th 2008 6:01PM
The Wii has to be the worst game system I've ever seen. So glad I got a PS3.

zOMG you cracked the case!
Eric @ Nov 15th 2008 5:57PM
Does the three controllers/nunchucks include the set included with the console?
If not, this price essentially gets you two free games.
If it does, it gets you one free game.
Mike @ Nov 15th 2008 6:00PM
you do realize that on black friday prices should be crazycheap, not just 1freegame cheap
High Ranks make you sterile @ Nov 15th 2008 6:43PM

Emailacar @ Nov 15th 2008 5:59PM
Two "top" titles there... erm, no.

Well, that does it Black Friday 2008 Officially Sucks. Nice knowing you economy, you are now officially doomed.
Tomheivers @ Nov 15th 2008 6:07PM
This costs more than a PS3 with game? And yeah, I know it has OMGOSH EXTRA CONTROLLERS AND TWO GAMES
but still.
I'm confused
xor24 @ Nov 15th 2008 6:12PM
I totaly agree those games sound like a bunch of shit and I'd much prefer a PS3 over a Wii, for many reasons including of course much higher resolution and Blu-Ray player.
KAIKAI @ Nov 15th 2008 6:13PM
i would LOVE for that warm iPhone of your to BURN YO ASS TO A CRISP.........
Thi mam(kris120890) @ Nov 15th 2008 6:17PM
The price is only higher in Spain for some reason. Its going to be the same for most of Europe and the UK according to my sources.
So Fail + stupidity = you
The Walrus @ Nov 15th 2008 6:43PM
Yeah! What's next? Apple charging too much for virtually everything they sell!?

Hooray, a free golf game and a free baseball game to go with Wii Sports.

@iEye:
I didn't think it was possible... but you make me feel ashamed to have an iPhone, if only that makes me guilty by association. Maybe you should start trolling for Vista instead.
chefgon_ign @ Nov 15th 2008 6:38PM
Considering this is a tough time where people are spending less, this really is the worst Black Friday ever. There are stores advertising MSRPs as sales, that's not going to convince anybody to do any extra buying.
Expect 3 or 4 national retailers to go out of business in Q1 next year, nobody's going to be buying shit this holiday.
Chris Are @ Nov 15th 2008 6:45PM
I'm almost inclined to agree with you, but I think you give too much credit to the average American consumer. There are going to be millions who get up at the asscrack of dawn hoping for sales, and they'll buy regardless. True, Engadget readers probably won't go shopping, but there are still plenty of ignorant fools who have to get the latest Elmo or whatever.
Though all the companies passing MSRP off as sales can kiss my ass. I'm shopping on Amazon this year.

is anyone else curious what this guy used to talk about before the sad an primitive time before the iPhone(TM) came out? seems to me like without his precious iphone he'd be a soulless husk of a person, just begging for a reason to exist...
On another topic, I wish that the comment system would show lifetime rankings per poster. That way you could look at a persons post and tell right away that they're a total douche.
I mean when was the last time you saw iEye, Jubei, or Clak post anything that wasnt about apple? And I mean, even in posts not about apple?
Valicore @ Nov 15th 2008 8:58PM
iEye,
I actually feel bad for you now. I can't imagine how miserable and discontent someone would have to be to make posts like this several times a day, every day. I hope you find something of value to make your life worthwhile beyond engadget. Try like a community college or something, you'd probably enjoy getting out. The internet should help you live life, not be your life.
Valicore @ Nov 15th 2008 9:10PM
The person doing the ad probably couldn't believe Sam's Club would try and charge that much money for a Wii and two games. No wonder he put the incorrect price in.
Brendan @ Nov 15th 2008 9:13PM
You know, they don't technically HAVE to have any kind of Black Friday sale. Getting a free $50 game is a pretty good deal any day of the week. One year, Best Buy's gimmick was a free Wavebird w/ purchase of a GameCube. Decent, as they were around $35, but this deal sets you up with controllers for the whole family in one shot along with 2 simple games that won't scare off the parents/grandparents. If the prices are so bad, go start your own store and have the super low prices you want and see how long you remain open.

sams club has never had "CRAZY OMG!" deals on black friday. everyone should have known better.
if you add up the contents of the bundle using normal non ebay-fanboy everyday prices it comes to around $505. still some decent savings there. And its no use bitching about including 2 kid friendly games when its a pretty much a kid's game system.
Greg Cox @ Nov 15th 2008 11:58PM
Nintendo Wii Family Bundle - Console, 3 Wii Remotes, 3 Nunchuks and 3 Games at Sam's Club - $425.00
upon further inspection if you click the link its 3 games not 2, not that it helps the case much buty it might actually entice me if i had 2 other people to play with and you could pick 3 games of the same value as those 3. i never really got why they pre pick the games for you oh wait no i just figured it out must be greed to get the low selling titles moving you scrath my back ill scratch urs.
warrrennnnn @ Nov 16th 2008 3:31PM
They include Wii Sports as one of the games. So it's two actual games with plastic cases, and the basic disc that came with the system (in its cardboard sleeve). Not that I'm bagging on Wii Sports. I just hate when distributors fake you out by thinking that you get a different game.
I love me some Wii Bowling.

Why would they change the last digit of the price from a 5 to a 4? Why photoshop 2 numbers when you only have to photoshop one? Seems odd. $225 would be just as good of a deal as $224 would be. All they had to do was screw with the first digit of the price, yet they changed the first and last? Why? Isn't the first law of photoshop hoaxing to change as little as possible?
Grant @ Nov 16th 2008 10:39AM
Possibly an internal error and not just someone being a dick? I mean it doesn't matter either way because it's fixed before the official sales date, so even if it was an official blunder, it's officially corrected now.
James @ Nov 17th 2008 1:13PM
i work therethe price is 445 or whatever it says up there but for the first five or six hours or so its 224 at least thats my store
