Mark it down as a coincidence if you'd like, but a flurry of
lawsuits revolving around the same companies just became public knowledge. For starters, Eastman Kodak has decided to sue Samsung and LG, alleging infringement of digital camera patents relating to image capture, compression and data storage; the suit is asking for "unspecified damages, and both cases seek injunctions prohibiting Samsung and LG from further imports and sales of the products." Just hours later, Samsung hit back with this response: "Samsung plans to respond actively to these litigations and will remain committed to serving our customers by ensuring that accurate and reliable delivery of our products is not compromised in any way." Got all that? Good. Moving on, we've also got chipmaker Spansion tossing a suit in Samsung's direction, which is asking for "billions" in damages for patent infringement presumably related to flash memory. Who says it's a slow period in the courtroom?

I've heard of Samsung, Kodak and LG. But, who in the !)@#@ is Spansion?????
Allen @ Nov 18th 2008 2:04AM
Spansion was the company formed when AMD spun off its flash memory division. It's the largest NOR flash maker and (apparently, according to articles) the third largest flash memory maker by revenue.
They're a big flash memory OEM that provides parts to a ton of companies, but you'll never hear of them until something like this happens.

The picture and title state that Kodak sued Samsung and LG, and Spansion also sued Samsung, but the article states that Spansion, LG, and Kodak sued Samsung, and no one sued LG. What gives?

I was confused too.

Eastman Kodak Co. (EK) sued Samsung Electronics Co. (005930.SE) and LG Electronics Inc. (066570.SE), alleging infringement of digital-camera patents.
It's right there in the first link ...

Ok wait... the headline says LG was sued BY Kodak, but the article states that LG AND Kodak sued Samsung.... and nothing about Kodak suing LG.
So shouldn't the headline be "Samsung sued by damn near everybody"? :P

I love it when corporations sue each other; it's hilarious. -_-

I think it is the latest attempt to Kodak to stay alive.

Unfortunately, it's the American way..if you can't make your own money, sue and take someone else's. Next up in the headlines, Ford and GM slip and fall down in front of Toyota's HQ and sue for emotional damages.

This brings me back right to my second semester of Civil Procedure in Law School. The horror!
