Mobile Edge 'fashion-inspired' TSA-friendly laptop bags for her are not very inspiring

We've seen Mobile Edge's ScanFast line of TSA-approved laptop bags before, so it was only a matter of time, we suppose, until there was a spate of the cases specifically for women. What does it mean, then, to be a laptop bag that is "designed for women by women?" Well, it helps to be pink or have faux alligator skin (or is that croc?) detailing, we can tell you that much. Regardless, the company is announcing three "fabulous" products: the Onyx Briefcase, the Onyx Backpack and the Element Briefcase, each coming in the three different color / style schemes. They're going to be available later this month, and sell for $99.99 each -- Chihuahua named Princess Sparklepants wearing a ballerina costume not included.

Women designing laptop bags? I call shenanigans!
inteller @ Nov 18th 2008 11:37AM
so where can I get some of these "TSA approved" stickers to slap on my luggage? Or is that a federal crime punishable by death too?
Vianon @ Nov 18th 2008 11:46AM
Having this sticker on is probably the best way to get an extensive search...
Matthew Hilario @ Nov 18th 2008 12:42PM
I have a Vista compatible sticker that would look just as funny.
From My Cube @ Nov 18th 2008 11:39AM
anyone who travels frequently enough wont be a dumbass and buy a "TSA approved" bag. Why? If you really travel that often you know how to pack your bag correctly and can get thru security with no problems....easy as this
Dont wear a belt, pack it in your carry on for after security
Pack all said metal in carryon that you need
Keep laptop easily removeable in said bag
Its the freaking idiots that travel thru the "frequent travler line" that dont know what they are doing that piss me off*
* my flight was delayed this morning, thus the anger
Valicore @ Nov 18th 2008 12:37PM
I totally agree, once you get used to doing it it isn't hard at all. Make sure you have no change on you, put your electronics in your carry on, put laptop, shoes and bag through and you're done in about 2 minutes. If you don't, it's the biggest pain in the ass ever.
Wwhat @ Nov 18th 2008 2:16PM
I'd always wear a belt, let them deal with the reality of humans not humans become processed little sucker drones.
StalematE @ Nov 18th 2008 11:46AM
certainly is a croc
Larry @ Nov 18th 2008 11:55AM
Can't you see Paris Hilton walking through the airport with one of these bags? She can even have a pink laptop in the bag...
BTW My wife said that she would kill me if I ever got her a pink computer/bag.
StalematE @ Nov 18th 2008 11:58AM
that would be hot
CraigJ @ Nov 18th 2008 12:09PM
You think she even knows what to do with a laptop? Video camera yes, laptop, I'm thinking no.
Patriks7 @ Nov 18th 2008 12:23PM
@CraigJ
Most laptops come with web cams.. :p
CraigJ @ Nov 18th 2008 12:41PM
yes, but it's hard to do POV porn with a built in webcam. The keyboard and display tend to get in the way.
billiam247 @ Nov 18th 2008 11:58AM
A lot of laptop bags out there are "checkpoint friendly." Check TSA's website (http://www.tsa.gov/press/happenings/simplifying_laptop_bag_procedures.shtm) for the details, or (completely) read the signage posted at the checkpoint. A large number of delays at checkpoints could be avoided if passengers just spent 5 minutes reading the rules and attempting to follow them rather than think, "Oh, this is a small bag and my bottle is kinda small, it'll be fine."
Wwhat @ Nov 18th 2008 2:18PM
They work for the people, perhaps they should put a sign up that reminds them, and you.
Annie @ Nov 18th 2008 12:04PM
The least they could do was make them attractive.
iEye @ Nov 18th 2008 12:09PM
$99, she will still be in the Coach line.
First class women luggage = Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Prada and in a lesser case Suiss Army...
This is like that fake wood finish in cheap cars... looks good, but in the end you know its fake.
Disclaimer: I am not rich nor do I claim to be rich, just someone who who gets a tingly feeling when he sees a super attractive female with $5000 luggage at the airport.
Patriks7 @ Nov 18th 2008 12:24PM
I'm willing to bet half of the Gucci and Louis Vuitton bags you see are fake anyway..
Artie Lange @ Nov 18th 2008 12:57PM
Your name wouldn't happen to be Jame Gumb, would it?
Matthew Hilario @ Nov 18th 2008 12:45PM
@CraigJ
http://justin.tv disagrees.
Kate @ Nov 18th 2008 1:07PM
I think you meant Princess Sparkleheels.
Sparklepants are for flamboyant male chihuahuas.
Wwhat @ Nov 18th 2008 2:19PM
I see bags with lots of metal and straps where you could hide lots of stuff in, that's TSA approved then eh, well well.
OMGizzle! @ Nov 18th 2008 2:45PM
Looks like a bag of hurt to me!
julie @ Nov 19th 2008 8:09PM
omg, those mobile edge bags are horrendous. i don't understand what's all the fuss about these tsa bags. mobile edge is just a barely spruced up version of targus which are my least favorite bags. i just got myself a BBP expand-it messenger bag and it's pretty and very functional. reasonably priced at $85 bucks too.
Matthew Olivolo @ Dec 5th 2008 1:28PM
I agree the pictures do not do these laptop cases justice. Seeing them in person makes all the difference. I work for Mobile Edge and we have more than 90 different products designed specifically for women. Our women designers continually blend fashion with our technology expertise creating laptop bags that are not boring or bland.
We are the only company out there offering Checkpoint Friendly laptop bags designed for women. Our men's Checkpoint Friendly laptop bags have sold very well, and I am certain our women's line will follow suit..
Check out our site and decide for yourself. We offer one of the largest selections of stylish laptop bags for both men and women on the market. E-mail me direct and let me know your thoughts.
