Sharp's AQUOS photo player prints / displays images on your HDTV
Now here's an interesting combination. Sharp has decided to liberally splash its AQUOS labeling on an all new photo player, which pulls double duty as a photo printer and a photo, um, display-er. So far as we can tell, users can load up images via a variety of memory card slots, Bluetooth, Infrared and even the local network (HN-PP150 only), and from there, they can either print for showing to grandma or output the content through HDMI. For those who connect it to an AQUOS LCD TV, they can also utilize the music playback functionality that's baked in. The non-DLNA-compatible HN-PP100 (pictured) will go for ¥20,000 ($207) starting December 5th in Japan, while the network-friendly HN-PP150 tacks on another ¥5,000 ($52) and ships in January 2009.

Hmmm, why do I get the feeling that these will be on sale very cheap on BF 2009?
Dan(o) @ Nov 18th 2008 9:54AM
Hey, someone will buy it, and it probably did not cost that much to develop or manufacture seeing as how it is just a $40 printer with HDMI out. Profit is profit is profit.

Does it work with voice commands and make loud clicking sounds? If so, it's getting close to the device Harrison Ford used in Blade Runner.

How about letting the printer fetch the TV image and print that out? Didn't think of that, huh? Would make for an economically priced video printer. But oh no, why would anyone do that, all people want is an actualized version of the 1980-something TV Video Floppy reader-printer combo.

Photo paper in the printer, check.
Networked PC (built from spare parts and approx 50 bucks) hooked up to TV for displaying ALL types of media, check.
Card reader and/or USB cable to camera for transfering/viewing photos, check.
Tell me again why I need to buy this?

I can watch DVDs on my computer. Why would I want a standalone DVD player?
MyHeadisFed @ Nov 18th 2008 1:09PM
I have a computer. I think I'll be alright without this.

Hey wasn't this device featured in BLADE RUNNER ?
Does it accept voice commands like "pan right" and "zoom"?
Rob @ Nov 19th 2008 1:15AM
If only you had read my post and agreed with me, I would have felt validated...

Seems like kind of a neat idea, though the 150 model more than the 100. Having the Internet connection in the 150 makes it potentially really useful for collecting new photos from across the web, friends, family, etc.
