MSI unveils Neton all-in-one nettop models ranging from mild to somewhat less mild
MSI and Asus, having apparently found the bottom in the netbook race, are now working hard to find that magic point on the desktop. Asus has its B202 and all-in-one Eee Top nettops, the latter of which MSI is now countering with the new, all-inclusive Neton series. The smallest is the M16, starting at $400 and featuring a 15.6-inch 1366 x 768 screen -- exactly the same size as Asus's impending offering (coincidence, surely). Then there's the slightly larger but otherwise identically spec'd $500 18.5-inch M19, and finally the range-topping $800 22-inch M22, offering an HD-loving 1920 x 1080 display fed by an optional Blu-ray drive. As you can see in pics after the break the guts of the M16 have been placed into an unsightly, over-sized stand, while on the M19 and M22 everything is tucked neatly behind the monitor itself, making for easy wall mounting (more room for Coke cans and miscellaneous clutter). No word on memory or disk space, but each will offer touch-screens and will come with XP or Vista depending on whether you opt for a single- or dual-core Atom processor. The M19 ships first in January, the M16 next in Feb, and the M22 last in March.

I like the look of the M19, shame the bezel under the screen is quite thick.
The what--? Oh, the computer!
Would somebody please get rid of the monitor in the picture.
Yea they should remove it, it's obvious that she's straining under the enormous weight.
Guess I'm the only one concerned by the "third leg".
SONY's proclaimed "race to the bottom" is turning out to be just a new way of competition helping make the computer market more and more competitive - and the consumer is the winner.
I'm so glad netbooks are forcing SSD manufacturers to innovate while building better netbooks.
Pretty soon, the average price for a desktop will drop and you'll be able to get a VERY HIGH Crysis capable rig for $600
It is a 'race to the bottom'. Profit margins are razor thin from the maker's side (which is what Sony, and other makers have been saying). This is why we see towards the Taiwanese and Chinese makers for these machines (even the HPs and Dell's are rebrading many of their parts).
From the consumer's perspective, 'race to the bottom' is good for prices. Makers have to now justify their prices for expensive machines. Thing is, most people only want computers for email, internet, and office, and these new 'net books' and 'net tops' are 'good enough'.
Very nice design.
I'm not too sure about the nettop though.
DO NOT WANT!
It pains me to say that, because I hate the greedy bastards, but from my point of view it's still far from IMac design (not that I would buy one of these expensive decorative loud, burning and expensive machines).
Goddamn this Atom chip is overrated.
I would be glad if they put at least E8000 series Core 2 Duo.
Depends on the usage, as a low power PC that doesnt rape electricity that is powerful enough for simple tasks that most people use a PC for i dont see why they are overrated, its just not something you would use that doesnt mean they are crap.
I use an Atom 230 Vista PC regularly for everything but gaming including watching 720p HD videos.
Since I do heavier gaming on _gaming_ consoles and not PCs, and most of what I do on my main desktop is... Gmail and/or Thunderbird, Google Reader, LJ, VNC to other systems, light games, general web browsing, etc., I don't need a Core 2 Duo or something similar for my main desktop.
A big screen for keeping track of multiple windows, RAM for running all of those apps at the same time, modest built-in storage (the rest will go on external drives or a home NAS solution), and modest CPU speeds are all I need.
The "race to the bottom" is marketing BS generated by firms that don't want to lower their margins, pundits that need something to criticize (and to keep their livelihood intact by promoting the "keep up with Jonses" attitude of consumer computing and gossip column writing), and spoiled children who have to be that "Jones" out in front of the pack.
This is really "the bursting of the bloatware bubble", only where bloatware is applied to the system/CPU design as opposed to software design.
I would not call that model Mild. She's one of the more attractive asian tech models I've ever seen.
Agreed, but I bet the product placement helps cover her flaws. There appears to only be about an inch between her and the computer. Still not bad looking though.
Hmm I agree, although I find the stand a little oversized.
Word!
she's like 12 yrs old!
She's def not 12. It's easy to know how old an asian girl is. Just double the age you had in mind.
So if this girl looks like she's 24. She's got to be almost 50.
For the good of the people, I did some research on marketing in Asia on Chinese Engadget... very interesting :)

She totally looks like a hot, female Brian Lam...
But are they touchscreen like the Eee Top ? If so, the 22-incher will give HP's Touchsmart a run for it's money...
The 2nd to the last sentence of the article summary clearly says "will offer touch-screens". You don't even have to go read the full article :-)
"Do YOU come with the computer?"
"Hehehehe... Oh you!"
U so faunney Raheeem.
Can we get more of the model, and less of the monitor?
I would give a $1,000 just to see her smash that monitor and take a dump on it.
"....lets try some japanese girls puking in each others mouths..."
"Now some Brazilian fart pr0n..."
What???? Aw! Awwww!
It was the big spooky ghost? You guys didn't see it?!?!
I've always been tempted to look up Brazillian fart porn since watching that episode, still haven't though.
I assume you'll get similar results if you look up pink eye?
Just did, and one of the girls had her hair swaying in thee breeze.
lol
1 Girl 1 Computer?
absolutely no cup.
I think it would have been awesome if they added a cloth-penetrating vision feature to that screen then turn it on *sigh*
Only if the hands actually belongs to her, they look like air hands She's probably a cyborg.
you would only see flatness. im sure youve got bigger boobs than this child.
that Asian model is gorgeous
do u know the model's name dude?
i don't know her name, but i'd call her beautiful anytime.
That smile...mmm. Don't care about that computer.
WOw im looking to buy a new monitor. Still rocking an AMD64 3200 only use it to download stuff and convert movies for ipod. For $500 id rather just get one of these all in one machines then spend $250 on just a nice monitor.
Damn this ATOM crap tho. give me something with a little more power.
Let me know when someone gets ubuntu fully ported to the M22...
'i' dont like this imac knock off, who buying this lol
Who is that model? Anybody know her name?
this girl is awesome!
Sorry what was this articule about?
Wait... Atom and Blu-Ray??? Like a Corolla at a Track Day?
No more like a Corolla at an optinial track day.
If nothing else, you do give everyone here a chuckle when reading your comments.
If youd like to read between the lines instead of thinking "aduh (dribble) dis is das imac form factor" you would see they are not in competition.
They are also not in competition with the HP Touchsmart of the Sony AIO.
They will appeal people who have never owned a computer before, netbooks are fine for small things, but any tehcnologically minded person knows the atom isnt capable of being a full fledged desktop.
So dont worry, this wont hurt Apple, now get back to your finger painting, im surprised they allow the mentally ill to have computers these days. Get back to your padded cell....
That comment was for Ocean "clak" 20th, but i assume when you read "mentally ill" you already knew...
Riiiight- so every time there is a black-gloss screen it's considered Apple branding now?
