Nokia 5800 XpressMusic video review is probably longer than you think

We've seen a review of the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, and several videos of the device in action. What we haven't seen, however, is a video review... until now. Over at MobileBurn they've posted a series of four review videos of the touchscreen handset, and though it starts out a bit shaky -- the stylus is "not very good" and the build doesn't feel very "solid" -- the reviewer changes his tune by the end of the opus, and his opinion seems like it's evolved to a resounding "not bad." Hit the read link, grab a bucket of popcorn and consider yourself in for the night if you want to watch the full review.

this is cool
FUGLY PRADA PHONE not even the devil would use this FUGLY phone
lolwut?
This isn't Prada phone, this is Nokia Tube and it looks shmexy (IMHO).
@Fusion
I realise that English isn't your native language - that would be Moronese - but do try to understand that 'Prada' and 'Nokia' aren't the same.
Can you do that for us, big guy?
Fail of the year award goes to you.
unanimous vote.
"unanimous vote"
I lol'd SO hard, when you said "Fail of the year" and "unanimous vote" in the same sentence.
P.S It's called spellchecker, use it
Game_playa what the FUCK are you talking about?
@Gama_playa
um...were you lol'ing at your own inability to spell? or what?
i wish they made a "make sure you don't look like an ass when you post this" checker.
Ohh . . me likes. May finally get rid of my old Sony Ericsson p800. I'm getting weird looks when I use that phone. Oh, well, at least it's good for self defense.
hahahaha
At least you're not using an nGage. I wouldn't even throw one of those at a zombie!
Nah, just take the Ngage out and the Zombie will be scared of you.
Oooh, Things I want to see in a demo
-YouPron
-Frogger Flash game
-Cut & Paste...
make a part 5 please.
It did show cut and paste. Dumbass
COPY AND PASTE!
I am going to buy one of these when Comes with Music is released to it.
This may be of no interest to anyone else but it's a free country, right?
@Fusion
Actually the bit where I say I'm buying one kind of indicates that I will in fact be using it.
Just a thought.
FUGLY (NOKIA) TUBE not even the devil (@ MARK ANDERSON) would use this FUGLY PHONE
Um, how is it ugly? if anything its just a bit plain, but i think its pretty sexy. You don't have to be such a little bitch about it.
Moronese again? Maybe iEye or CLAK could understand you...
I'm an Android guy, but I don't see ANY... ANY REASON... to buy this phone over an iPhone. That is if someone's shopping for a touchscreen-only device this Christmas. The higher-res screen (albeit smaller) isn't enough to justify this pricey purchase. The UI, Browser, Media capability and Billion 3rd Party Apps all point to the best selling phone of the year as a more reasonable purchase..
If Nokia and HTC don't up their game (and Google, obviously), they will be eaten alive with 2009's iPhone HD and WM7 Tegra phones.
Here's for a glorious Android year, hopefully. G2 ftw.
TareX, there are many reasons, why the iPhone is better - and there are many reasons, why the Nokia 5800 is better. Unfortunately, there is no one-size-fits-all mobile phone (yet) on the market.
However, let me correct a couple of misunderstandings in your comment:
- "3 billion [iPhone] 3rd party apps" would be about 3000 apps at the latest count
- Symbian (S60) phones have 25000 available 3rd party apps (10.000 Symbian + 15.000 Java-based)
- "pricey" would mean about half the price of the iPhone, not to mention that even the more expensive N-Series phones go for free with 2-year contract, so the expectation is that Nokia 5800 would be available also for free with a contract.
You are still right, that Nokia needs to push forward to be in the race. Yet, there is a reason, why Nokia already slipped the information, that an "N-Series like" powerhorse touchscreen is coming 1Q2009 - usually those are twice as feature-rich as an 5xxx series phone.
EXCEPT you will be able to buy this phone without a contract for $400, not $600, and you're not tethered to any carrier. Also given that S60 is the most widespread phone OS, there are more symbian apps out there than all of iphone's*3. You're also talking about a Nokia phone which comes with every possible features imaginable. Including GPS, front facing camera for video calls, a decent 3.2 camera with flash, video out, fm tuner, expandable memory, easy to replace battery, and standard software functions like copy/paste and mms support.
"...Tegra phones"
I'm with you, brother!
Well I realize how rich S60 is in 3rd party apps (I'm a happy E65 owner)... there's an app for anything and everything. But for the Nokia Tube, how many of these apps are hi-res and touch-friendly? Almost NONE. Yes S60 Touch has backward compatibility, but realistically speaking these apps would be unusable on the Tube.
The iPhone apps on the other hand are -in comparison- top quality, and written specifically for this piece of hardware. Not to mentiona OpenGL support and rendering...
And of course with a touchscreen-only phone, UI comes in top priority.
Just pointing to a review of the 5800 by Steve Litchfield
.. about 3 weeks old .. at the end of his "Which phone to buy?" which people might find useful to watch anyway.

I think Nokia has a winner in their hands. Maybe not in the US (surprise, surprise) but most definitely elsewhere.
Hardware is pretty solid Nokia and software seems to be above average. But it is the price makes me update my old phone with an unlocked version of this.
And I dare to disagree with Mr. Fusion above, I think the 5800 looks pretty decent too!
Wow that's actually a good phone.
So that basically confirms the earlier looks. A decent phone but not really that special. Success of this phone will really depend on the price point.
It looks like just another typical Nokia Phone.
Nothing stellar.
Well except that it can produce a blackout. :)
that's what she said
She did? Didn't notice...
in b4 "But can you play Doom on it?"
yes you can :P http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SMMPpvjPGGQ
i'm definitely buying this or its Nseries successor when my contract runs out in july
I watched all of the vids and came away impressed. Any chance T-Mo USA will pick this up? I'm very curious to test it in person.
