Slacker radio added to Sony BRAVIA Internet Video Link
If you've found yourself dumbfoundedly staring at your Bravia Internet Video Link-equipped HDTV thinking "when am I going to see some Slacker radio up in this piece?" -- you're in luck. Sony announced today that it would be bringing the streaming service to users of the company's $300 hardware add-on free of charge, allowing music hounds to grab "millions" of songs on over "100 individually programmed genre music stations" in CD-quality audio. The service joins other streaming content like YouTube and Amazon, and will be available immediately. So... why are you still reading this?

Good for Sony to add attractive and sensible features to the BVL long after its release. However, I feel that for optimal market success it should have had some feature like this from the beginning. However, smart move. Add Sirius/XM internet streaming audio and you've got a winner.

Maybe throw a little Orb in there for good measure.

This blog post inspired me to write more about the Bravia Internet Video Link and what else they should add to it. I am not trying to blogspam, but merely hoping to have some intelligent discussion about the product that Sony will hopefully read and consider.

Even frat boys and teenage girls need to break out of the norm sometimes, you know, like taking a break from Top 40 radio hip-hop. Alternative, haha.
Props to Slacker though for having Minor Threat on their main page for alternative music.

Still no internet radio for PS3!
holycow @ Nov 19th 2008 3:04PM
you can stream them through TVERSITY or ORB however you'll need to have your computer on, but it's a hassle putting all those links in them.
Kspraydad @ Nov 20th 2008 11:09PM
Or you could use accuradio or finetune.

Wow, surprisingly good music there, sony.

man, i love slacker. such a great music service.
Mekkel Richards @ Nov 19th 2008 5:18PM
I listen to almost all of those albums and they're damn good.
It looks like Sony picked through my favorite music.
Rage Against the Machine, Beastie Boys, NOFX, Pearl Jam, Jack Johnson, Pixies, Minor Threat
what could be better ?
Jesus @ Nov 19th 2008 6:10PM
Actually, Slacker is a whole other company altogether. They're the ones that make those awesome stations.
Tired_ @ Nov 19th 2008 5:28PM
Slacker is a great idea on a portable device, but if I'm at home anyways, I'm gonna listen to my stereo for music, not my TV. I'm also probably going to want to listen to my own CDs, too.
Kenneth Lawson @ Nov 19th 2008 6:13PM
While the idea is good, what is the interface like. how about typing names, searches, etc?
What is need is a open platform, with access to the WHOLE internet or at least your local network, and the ability to play any format, essentially a browser built into the interface, Including a wireless keyboard with the tv would be nice, at least the ability to ad a after market wireless keyboard, This would make it more of consumer friendly product and help justify Sony's prices,

They should supplement the slacker music service with a nice internet radio guide from RadioTime. It works perfect in my Sonos system and would be ideal for the Sony Internet Link because they include logos for all stations
