Chrysler has been
toying with in-car connectivity for months now, so it's really no shock to see the next logical step being taken. At the San Francisco Auto Show this week, the automaker is set to showcase a "Web Edition" package, which would theoretically be available as a dealer-installed option for most Chrysler, Jeep, and Dodge vehicles. The bundle would include an
Autonet Mobile router (branded as
Uconnect Web), a Dell Mini 9, 8GB iPod touch, Sony PSP and an Eye-Fi WiFi SD card; couple that with one year of internet service and you've got everything that makes up the $1,999 asking price. Reportedly, a slimmed down option will go for $1,100 and only include the router, service and Mini 9, though there's no indication of when it'll be hitting new whips. Nor if Chrysler will survive long enough to tell us.

Ha, I guess the whole $2.99 gas guarantee didn't work out too well? Gas is 1.83 over here.
Dusty Nipples @ Nov 20th 2008 9:43PM
Haha, I guess you're not a business guy? That deal could not of worked out better for Chrysler.
1234321 @ Nov 20th 2008 9:50PM
yeah, they really took a gamble there
Mam00th @ Nov 20th 2008 9:53PM
You should wipe those...
Flashpoint @ Nov 20th 2008 8:59PM
Both GM and FORD are showing their new models and they've basically made the hottest cars ever in their production history - just in time to get hit by the credit crisis. 2010 Fusion, Milan, MKZ and Mustang + the Volt, CTS coupe, and V series CTS.
And Chrysler?
They've got NOTHING on the drawing board except in-car wifi.
Mobius_1 @ Nov 20th 2008 9:04PM
They've got their EVs, but I have to agree, completely overshadowed by Ford and GM. Btw don't forget the Ford Fiesta, Focus (Mondeo?) and maybe the GM Insignia if they bring that over.
holycow @ Nov 20th 2008 9:55PM
Absolutely love the 2010 Mustang even though to me it resembles the Dodge Challenger a lot (from the front).
john @ Nov 20th 2008 10:08PM
yea nothing besides that beautiful 09 challenger.. but thats nothing right?
Perno @ Nov 20th 2008 10:22PM
Hey I'm not a huge car guy, but I usually love the Mustang. Call me crazy but the 2010 Mustang doesn't look like super special to me...reminds me of a regular sedan.
Ian @ Nov 21st 2008 9:08AM
It's like driving INSIDE THE INTERNETS
Mobius_1 @ Nov 20th 2008 9:01PM
Can I get than in the Viper?
1234321 @ Nov 20th 2008 9:51PM

Richard @ Nov 20th 2008 9:02PM
I'll pass.
iEye @ Nov 20th 2008 9:02PM
Yea, I remember my first car, Plymouth Sundance. What a piece of shite. never again will I touch a car from them.
the only thing they got hands down was the sun roof, and the seats that go all the way back!
It got me a date with a dream girl and some boob. I guess I can't complain too much...

I wanted to know that. But iEye's tmi aside... Chrysler will either die a slow & horrible death (Which I think it is doing) or will be bought by some up-and-coming market inversors/companys (Like Tata) or will receive a bailout and bought by GM.
tom @ Nov 20th 2008 9:47PM
+1 I do agree. It sucks. My friend used to laugh at people driving vans (losers' cruisers)
Seriously, forget about what edition and whatever gimmick. They should focus on building better cars with great value.
ubn2 @ Nov 20th 2008 9:12PM
why is the picture a 1st gen ipod touch?
iEye @ Nov 20th 2008 9:15PM

I sure hope Chrysler automobiles have 5-star crash ratings.
RIMM Jobs @ Nov 20th 2008 9:22PM
Is it available without the vehicle?
Evan @ Nov 20th 2008 9:24PM
Instead of improving the car's handling, safety, and efficiency, they use unrelated gimmicks to sell the car. I'll stick to German cars, where handling and performance come first and foremost, not swept under the rug and hidden like American car manufacturers try to do.
Sketh @ Nov 20th 2008 9:52PM
And the reason my state of Michigan is failing is: (Read Above.)
Of course this isn't the only thing Chrysler has going for itself. Need I remind you that Chrysler was awarded the highest in class safety and advancement in automotive technology. The latter falls into this topics category. ON TOP OF THAT: They were awarded the SOD (Secretary of Defence) for supporting our troops and local businesses, which if they fall, mind you, will fall as well.
Plus why bitch? In car wifi would be the shizzNAT.
john @ Nov 20th 2008 10:15PM
ohhhh thats why the caddilac cts-v is the fastest sedan to ever grace nurrimberg ehh with a 6 speed automatic the bmw or Mercedes could not compete or you want to talk about the 640 hp corvette zr1 that beats down cars twice the price like it was a Sunday drive yea you sure know a lot about cars little boy go play genesis if your even old enough to know what that is.
JP @ Nov 20th 2008 11:42PM
@john: It's still a cheaply-built American car that lacks quality. Sure it's a huge leap over the previous-gen, but GM has a *long* way to go to catch the likes of BMW and Mercedes. Who cares if it's 5 seconds faster around the 'Ring in reality - a car is about much more than that.
The fact remains that it will have GM-like problems. I won't deny it's good-looking car but there are signs of GM cheapness everywhere.
kojo87 @ Nov 21st 2008 12:13AM
ummm its a Chysler JP. not a GM. but close enough. crappy american car. i wish Detroit made good cars but they just dont. i went to a dealer and sat in a Chevy Malibu and then in a VW Jetta. i would have thought the VW cost about $3k more but it was actually about $2k less than the Chevy. given i didnt drive either of them but you see my point. Detroit needs to figure its shit out.
Patrick @ Nov 20th 2008 9:26PM
hmm....
autonet router = $399
8gb ipod touch = $229
dell mini 9 = $349
sony psp = $199
eye-fi card = $89
12 months of service = $348
=====================
total = $1613
trying to hedge your bets in case that bailout money doesn't come through eh?
Nick @ Nov 20th 2008 9:42PM
and its possibly a 1st gen Touch, so it'd be even less
JP @ Nov 20th 2008 11:44PM
And you think overcharging by $300 is bad? o_O
They're entitled to make their money - that's no where near as bad as options in other cars (from every manufacturer).
Justin @ Nov 20th 2008 10:01PM
This is awesome! Can't wait until Uconnect goes WiMax.
alex @ Nov 20th 2008 10:14PM
No matter what you add to it, its still a minivan....

...with a 41TE/A-604 Tranny...
...highly prone to trouble
grabbydad @ Nov 21st 2008 9:46AM
"...highly prone to trouble" Is right.
My parents went through 6 tranny's in 1 year. Complete pile of crap no matter how you slice it....errr, drive it.
Chrysler throws in the shame of driving one off the lot for free.
wrxlunacy @ Nov 20th 2008 10:24PM
I have to believe this would be pretty extraordinary with Rev (http://devtoaster.com/products/rev/). They already have WiFi and the iPod!!

I'd like to see a model that comes with bankruptcy protection
Baz @ Nov 21st 2008 7:58AM
"...a Dell Mini 9, 8GB iPod touch, Sony PSP and an Eye-Fi WiFi SD card..."
Wow. That's got to what, double the value of a Chrysler product?
Then again, maybe its just their CEO cleaning out the swag drawer in his private jet...
FRZ @ Nov 21st 2008 9:22AM
Wow, $1999.99 for the car with all included. Nice!
Al Bundy @ Nov 21st 2008 11:11PM
yeah, after seeing the CEOs on tv begging for money like a homeless bum who just shat himself yet again, my money will be going to honda or VW for a new car. I cannot trust theiving CEOs who threaten to close a business powerhouse due to bankruptcy, yet they fill their own pockets will billions of our tax $$$. that and if they go under, who will insure the warranty? and i especially despise chrysler for destroying the Benz name.
