Nokia adds support for Lotus Notes in Symbian S60
There's hardly anything more embarrassing that admitting that your company still uses Lotus Notes, but for the millions upon millions (140 million, in fact) of licensed users who'd love the opportunity to check in via their S60-based handset, this one's for you. Starting next month, Lotus Notes support will be granted for Symbian S60 3rd Edition, meaning that anyone with a fresh S60 device can soon tap into Lotus Notes Traveler and access real-time email, calendar, address book, journal and to-do list data. On second thought, maybe you shouldn't be so enthusiastic -- leaving work at work is a blessing too many take for granted.

I always chckle to myself when people slag off notes, they simply do not understand what is it. FACT: IBM's Notes/Domino has been the number 1 groupware product year on year for the last 20 years.
Plenty of ignorance (as usual) when people "Hate!!" Notes.
For the most part they hate one of more applications running on Notes. It's like Hating Windows Vista because Office 2007 Suck balls.
Now, for those stuck with Notes < 8 on Windows < 2000/XP etc. I'm sorry for You. It just shows a lack of foresight, and understanding the fact that products actually move foreward (and get better) and that continous maintennance (including upgrades) of Your mission-critical IT-services keeps people in a "learning is good" mode.
Stale IT is now good and allthough being in the forefront has its challenges, overcoming them usually means that You get more productive. They who follow in others footprints never come first.
Which is worse, using a secure collaboration tool, or drinking the Kool-Aid from Redmond?
I'll take security, thank you very much!
St. Lucie County School District uses Lotus (Domino/Notes)
Lotus Notes 8.0 was horribly slow...
We use 8.1 Basic (without Eclipse)
Lotus notes is the biggest pile of garbage ever created... Its responsible for millions of hours of wasted time. Talk about lack of productivity.
Yes its java interface is slow. I would boot my pc and wait 15 minutes. You hunt for stuff. You have to have a small army of techs just to keep users working.
DONT EVEN try to compare Notes to Sharepoint. Sharepoint is 100 times the product Notes wished it was with its stupid databases. Notes is like Access.
There is a reason why Notes is dying a quick death. Because it sucks.
The only reason it is alive today is because these notes fools suckered mangement into making databases with their email server! Who is dumb enough to tie those two together! Fools.
I laugh when i hear a company is using Notes and Notes admins/programmers are the only ones who make a living off it so they run around saying its great... Hah
Let me guess, you work in marketing or some such :)
Try talking about something relevant next time, maybe adding to the debate, instead of just calling things mean names...
And I see from your other off-center comments, you have it in for IBM... what, did they buy your company and let you go or something,
rofl !
@Mike ..
15 minutes.. your running on a Pentium 66 yes?
Dont even try compare notes to Sharepoint? I wouldnt
Sharepoint looks nice - but has zero functionality compared to domino - thats a fact. Thats not an argument.
A quick death?
20 years the product is going... How many MS products have come and gone.. .Do you want me to make you a list?
You laugh when places are using Notes... well that makes you pretty unhireable in a lot of places. Trolling is so 2001... Try to evolve.
And a quick note to Engadget... Intelligent conversations and well written articles (unlike the post that started this and the idiot I am responding to here) lead to great reading and great content. I don't mind giving the pros/cons of Domino or Sharepoint/Exchange... Flame baiting turns engadget into tabloid press - useless and zero facts.
If anyone wants a reasoned discussion, leave a mature point.
Couple of FACTS about Notes for all you Exchange FanBoys:
EVERY branch of the Federal Government uses Lotus Notes, including
FBI
CIA
ATF
Whitehouse
DoD
Pentagon.
Every armed forces branches....etc.
I personally know of a current deployment of a Domino server deployment that is supporting 64,000 Notes users on one partition of a pSeries server. Oh, and there are 4 partitions configured the same way, on one physcial box. For those who don't want to do the math, that is 256,000 Lotus Notes users on 1 physical box. Exactly how many Exchanges boxes would that take to duplicate??? And the kicker, the up time on the OS AND the Domino server portion is at 500 days +.
I have never know a Exchange server to go more than 14 days without needing to be rebooted.
The fact is that more Notes licenses than Exchanges licenses are sold every year. This sales statistic has been this way since '96
I hope to god I never have to put this on my phone.
