NXE hitting 360s with red ring, freezing and sorta-sexy-avatar issues?
If you wouldn't mind looking up from that avatar creation screen for a second -- yes, we're aware of how much that t-shirt selection means about you as a person -- you might notice that your Xbox 360 is dead. At least, a few hapless souls on the Xbox forums seem to think NXE is to blame for such atrocities. Numerous folks are reporting variously bad red ring configurations, random freezing and a huge pile of blockbuster titles that won't just play themselves. The biggest problem is that Microsoft isn't universally treating problems caused by NXE as an "oh, our bad" sort of situation, and at least from anecdotes we're seeing has charged quite a few folks $100 to fix their freshly-out-warranty Xbox 360s -- not to mention separating them for weeks from their precious murder simulators.

| Perfect, and my avatar is sooo sexy. | |
|---|---|
| Maybe it was glitchy a bit, I dunno, I need to get back to Fallout 3. | |
| Pretty buggy but no showstoppers. | |
| Tons of freezing, but hasn't died yet. | |
| Red ring'd a bit, now it's back. I'm scared. | |
| Bricked but Microsoft is picking up the tab. | |
| Bricked and Microsoft said "die in a fire," charging $100. | |
| This question doesn't apply to me, I just like messing with poll results. |

I think they call him Lowest Ranked because that's what he chose as his name...
I was a beta tester for the NXE, the day I downloaded it, Thursday of last week, my 360 got the red ring. I decided to try to see if it was a fluke, it started working again. So yesterday when I fired up the system, it red ringed. I was so mad, so I turned off then back on, it worked, accepted the new terms, and 30 minutes later, red ring again. this time it ain't coming back. I am awaiting a box from microsoft to send it in. I think the new nxe actually pushes the hardware somehow, but whatever the reason, my launch day console is on its way to be fixed.

This proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that Xbox FANBOYS are way more Fanboyish (Another word also comes to mind) than that of PS3 owners. If article came out about the PS3, you can rest assure All or Most of these comments would say something like " The last Nail in the Coffin for the PS3!" or " This proves Xbox will out last the PS3 and Bluray is finished and anything else lame in that fashion. OH OH or how bout " This again shows that the NXE is far far superior to Playstation's Home" That one for sure!
Yet Now that we see the Xbox is having severe problems, again, and these comment boards are NOT filled with erroneous PS3 fanboy sludge agaisn't the Xbox, proves to me just how lame these FANBOYS and GIRLS are when it comes to their precious system.
Don't get me wrong I think the Xbox is fine and dandy but the over the top comments about how the PS3 and Bluray are going out the door and how its always " The Last Nail in the Coffin" for the system and it's HD software is so stupid that it makes me laugh at those who post the simply lame comments about it. It was the SAME EXACT THING FOR HD DVD's and Bluray. "OH, HD DVD will win hands down and SONY's PS3 will go Bankrupt!!" We heard that for what seemed like years. Nows it's " Netflix HD service will kill Bluray; Bluray is going out of business in a few months!" So Laughable!
Now, back on point. Microsoft should fix all the Xbox's or needs to repair the new firmware. People should not have to pay for another system or to fix it. They have obviously been using different motherboards for different systems, which is a no no; and now we see why.
So why did they give everyone the change to be a Bratz doll?
???
The NXE bricked my DVD drive. Everything else works fine (can play Arcade games and stream media), but the console won't read any kind of disc, be it game, movie, or audio CD.
I happened to be playing Soul Calibur IV before the update, turned off the console for an hour, turned it back on, updated, and now it won't see any discs.
i had been playing gears of war 2 since NXE release... and i have no problems.. i feel it faster than old dashboard
That's BS.
In england our dashboard is no way near as cool.
I want a shop or a fence. Not cool man, Not cool.
WE get stuck with shit like a big xbox or boxes or a white guitar.
WE WANT COLOUR ON OUR DASHBOARD.
White, Grey, Green & Black is not cool.
That's my input anyway
Mine RROD'ed the night before the NXE came out.
NXE RRoD'd my 360 =(. Worked flawlessly before the update, never, ever, had a problem with with the console. Installed the update and it crashed 3 times during the half hour after installation, played a bit of rock band 2, turned it back on and bam RRoD. It does work but now it's very tempremental and freezes with a RRoD appearing when I reboot. I've not had an issue with freezing/RRoD when I am playing a game, only when accessing the new dashboard, which suggests it may be the NXE interface to blame but I have only racked up a couple of hours gameplay since it happening so can't really confirm this just yet. Error code read out gives 0102 but could mean anything - although typically means a bad solder to the gpu heatsink or heat related problem. I'm tempted to try an xclamp fix cos I'll be damned if I have to send my xbox in and go all christmas without it just after renewing my live membership, buying over 6000 points aaaaaand alll these new relases upon us. Not sure if MS will honour my warranty anyways as machine is second hand, anyone know anything about this?
As for the the NXE dashboard, crashing and lagging and RRoD'ing asides it's a bit of a let down. The avatar creation pales in comparison to the Mii channel on the Wii - it's VERY limited. The new tabs are basically the blades moved around a bit and aren't really any less cluttered or cleaner to navigate. Also, the dashboard now defaults to a stack of ads in the showcase bar instead of my xbox which is quite annoying. Still overall I think I like it more than the old dashboard, just, had it not pretty much killed my console in the process. =(
Count me as another user who got RROD after the update.
I have a Pro 360 purchased Nov 2006. I use it maybe a few times a month. Aside from disc read errors, no problem.
I've been anticipating the NXE update so that I can install to HDD, and avoid the disc read errors.
I proceed to update, everything goes well. Make an avatar, install Dead Rising and load it up.
System hangs at Capcom logo. I restart and try again, this time it hangs after loading a new game.
This time I restart and find myself faced with a RROD. I shut down, wait a while then start up, and no more RROD. I proceed to load up a Carcassonne, and manage to get in game. System proceeds to hang, I restart and witness another RROD.
I haven't been able to get back into the system since.
I've had it freeze once when exiting a friend's details.
I've also been unable to control the 360 guide. I could press the button to make it appear and disappear, but I could only control the dashboard in the background.
My brother's one-ringed (E74). Which is pretty much the same reason as the RRoD (it's not the video cable) but Microsoft with their BS doesn't cover it in the extended warranty. What are the chanced they'll charge if he justs sends it in?
I've had a good experience with it; only thing wrong was that it thinks my Forza 2 is too scratched to copy to the hard drive...but its not scratched enough to play fine. =/
Dude, it's here tomorrow... Chill....
Seriously now, why does it keep posting that?
I sold my Wii to a friend a year ago because I hated its childish graphics. I bought a 360 and have been really pleased, until yesterday when I once again seem to be the owner of a Wii, minus the cool motion-sensing wireless controller. The whole avatar concept for a gaming system like this is ridiculous. So Wii has been outselling XBox and everyone else, but does Microsoft seriously think the reason is avatars? And who seriously believes that making a menu system 3D actually improves navigation?
I've never had any problems with my XBox bricking, but please, PLEASE tell me there's a way to get rid of NXE and revert to the old interface.
my launch xbox bricked on me during this year's june only because i was being stupid and kept it in a confined space. otherwise, it's been running fine. funny how the newer xboxes die a lot faster.
So far i've been reasonably happy with the NXE. Not sure i love the new navigation, but it may just take some getting used to. Love the new parties, and netflix features.
have had a couple of strange freezing issues though - the console freezing and not responding after doing something. Had to reset the console on both occasions.
I'm on my 2nd xbox now, the first one got the RRoD a few months back. Took about 2 weeks to get a "new" refurbed xbox sent to me. so far its been fine, but seems to be a bit louder than my old one. Go figure. Still love the xbox, and the ability to watch netflix movies stutter free, watch tv shows via playon software, etc.
You guys need to stop with the coincidence BS. In my case, there is no coincidence. I have a newer 360 which was manufactured 12/2008. I have been playing my 360 all month with no problems whatsoever. I put this on my life, I never get on xbox live but, I wanted to get the NXE update. After I connected to live, downloaded the update, my 360 restarted but went straight to RROD. But it was 2 red overheating lights. And keep in mind, this is EXACTLY after the update installed. No audio or video except for the visual RROD. So I turned off then turned back on. New dash boots up However, 30 minutes of playin dead space, shuts off with RROD. I turned it right back on and it let me play for another 30-40 minutes and guess what, RROD. Now it wont boot up anymore since as soon as I turn it on I get RROD. Now I can not blame this on anything but the NXE. Call it what you want, I would still be playing my 360 with my lovely HDMI cables if I never would have updated it. I PROMISE you that. I am currently playing my Launch 360 as it was not affected by the RROD after it updated. However my HDMI console is gone. Bout to send it in M$.
As someone who has been using the NXE for over a month know, I can assure you that any hardware failures that occur around the time you install the NXE are purely coincidental. If anything, this updated uses LESS system resources, not more. Seriously folks - prove to me ("I DLed the NXE and then sometime after that got red rings! Oh Noes!" does not count) that the NXE is causing a hardware failure and I will give you my Xbox. Seriously.
Well I wish I had a video camera cause I speak the truth, NXE killed my falcon. I got RROD AS SOON AS it restarted. IT DID NOT EVEN RESTART. It updated then went straight to the red lights, no dash at all. Prior to this, No red lights ever. This is what I call broken due to the update. No coincidence. No hardware failure. But I will tell you one thing, First I got update, updated fine. Secondly, I downloaded the avatar portion of the update. After avatars installed, restarted as a paperweight. But wait, I took the hard drive off and put it on my elderly 360 and it updates fine with avatars. Don't speak for everyone else or cover M$ cuz you were not there. And if this happened to you, you would be in my shoes and sayin what I am saying, not what you preachin coincidences and hardware failure. I know what hardware failure is cause my elderly 360 RROD'ed. I fixed it myself and it handles the NXE very well. My new 360 is a result of NXE not RROD.
My Xbox went RROD immediatly after the NXE install. I am a moderate to low user, the xbox is NOT moded in any way. It's a 2007 and in a well ventilated space. So, how do you explian the fact that it was working perfectly for over a year and then immedatly dies after the install of NXE?
Sure if I was an isolated case you might argue the machine was on it's way out but there are THOUSANDS of people reporting the exact same thing.
You are an idiot...you can type so you can read, do you think everyone here is making this stuff up?
You guys just wait and see how many coincidences M$ is gonna have to deal with after this update. Its only been 2 days, just wait and see what I tell you. I am mad because of this, but not too mad since I have 4 - 1= 3 xbox 360's at home now. I will just have to wait till I get my HDMI baby back. All my other 360s have no HDMI. Oh well, back to VGA!!!
I was playing around the Settings menu when suddenly my controller went into an unending frenzy of vibrating. Never happened in all the 2 plus years I've owned my Xbox 360. Most likely caused by an NXE glitch.
I installed the update. Console rebooted. RoL. Within 3 year warranty, but I'm buying a new one today. Fallout 3 is too good. I guess I'll sell the refurbished one when it gets back. I hate giving Microsoft money in general, since they treat my like a fucking sucker, but seemingly I'm too weak to stand up for my ideals.
Installed NXE the day it came out on a modified xbox 360. Installed a 120GB hdd afterwards, as I had been putting it off for a couple months because 20GB was plenty for me without the hdd game installs. I had to update to NXE again after installing the hdd (not a store bought 120GB). Everything works flawlessly - games to the hdd work perfectly, netflix is far better than I expected, avatars I can do without, but my overall experience has been fantastic. No freezes, no RROD, no problems. It may be a matter of time before some type of failure occurs just because I play so much.
a letter to xbox support...
I would like to undo the "New Xbox Live Experience" update made available on November 19th, 2008. Console temporarily freezing during music playlists since I have downloaded the update - now making loud noises - my mp3 discs take a longer amount of time to load the playlists. Please help me revert back to the sleek blade dashboard, help me undo my last Xbox Live update.
Downloaded nxe today. System reboots, system error e71. RROD, or atleast a red light in the bottom right. Welcome to brick city.
Of course Xbox phone support says they'll do absolutely nothing about it because my year warranty is up. Even though my Xbox was working perfectly fine and now it's suddenly dead, they still want me to pay the $94 repair fee.
I hope enough people speak out about this.I feel like emailing some scumbag lawyer that would get a class action lawsuit going (if the problem is widespread enough and MS continues to refuse to do anything about it).
NXE update has killed my optical drive, no CD can be recognized, games/DVDs nothin. No error message either, just says 'Reading' then 'Open Tray'. Worked fine just before the update, without a doubt it is software/firmware. But the "New Xbox Experience" is great, my stupid avatar works fine, too bad I can't play any games. Tried flushing cache, power reset, boot from disc, popped the hard drive, nothing....MS says it's a hardware issue and to send it in (not covered under warranty of course). This smells like a money grab in my opinion, MS is knocking out consoles just before the holidays to boost sales. This is my second Xbox, and definitely my last. Too frustrating and I refuse to put another cent into Gate's pockets for this flakey product. Gonna cut my loses and try PS3.
