Update: Added some screenshots of the most notable new features after the break. The Street View implementation seems solid though we miss the compass feature found on T-Mobile's G1. Also, the real-estate saved by moving the Google search field next to the URL field in Mobile Safari is a welcome and obvious change. As to auto-correction, well, that's personal taste. Tipster Vizcaya also noticed that Apple added a new option to rate an App when you delete it from your phone. You can also view multiple screenshots of applications available in the App Store.
Update 2: The other big update, Podcast downloads, works just as you'd hope and should further promote the spontaneous isolation we all crave. A few shots of that added after the break.

Couple of problems I've noticed so far..
Wifi seems to have broken for me. No idea why. Every page displays server not responding. I'll reboot the router and check that, but phones been on and off a few times and still nothing..
Podcasts - I listen to Tiesto, (unfortunatly) its an enhanced podcast, which shows a different picture per song. Not a video, and enhanced podcast (something Apple created AFAICT). Now, when you lock the phone and listening to enhanced podcasts, the podcasts stop. Also, it wont go to sleep while listening to enhanced podcasts. 2.2 sees enhanced podcasts as videos.
Safari's crashed on me a way I've never seen before.. The screen would respond to me touching it, but not register it as a click. :S
The battery seems REALLY low now. Normal usage. Maybe its that enhanced podcast and keeping the screen operating.
I'm not entirley sure I like the new safari layout. We had that in 2.1 in landscape mode!
Emojiis? Nowhere to be found. Not even with every JPN and CHN keyboards activated..
The headphone jack sense seems to have messed up with me once so far, refusing to acknowledge that I have unplugged the jack.
But I'll see how it goes.. :rolleyes:

Finally! Someone that also noticed the "glitch" with enhanced podcasts. I like the new layout for playing, but I want to be able to sleep my iPod while they are playing. Oh well, for now I can always use the double-tap on the home button while it is sleeping to play the podcast. But it is a major annoyance.
God I had to close Songbird and open up iTunes to do this. And I was brutally reminded why I switched... >.
Aww, it got rid of my face. Now it looks like I tried to include HTML and failed
killed my ability to use rebel sim card, zippy safari though...
Another new feature is that when you have an App update, and you update it on the phone it now replaces the original App location while it's "loading" instead of creating a new temporary icon until it finishes installing.
Everything works for me except the new map features and my e key doesn't pop up when I hit it like all the other letters do any suggestions? (neither does the L button)
I wish street view and public transport could be on the iPod Touch.
Im really upset that the ipod touch 2.2 software upgrade dosent have the google maps update. What the hell was apple thinking. Id rather have google street view then podcasts which suck (other than engadgets.)

BEWARE!!!
I backed up my iPhone before updating... everything was cool. But when I updated to the 2.2 firmware, I lost more than half of my apps (both paid and free). They vanished from my iPhone AND in iTunes.
I had to go back and manually download all of my missing apps over again.
Did this happen to anyone else?
I miss Tris (the knockoff Tetris). It looks like it is no longer available on iTunes.
With that out of the way, I do have to say that downloading podcasts right to the phone is freakin' awesome.
When is Flash coming for Safari? Fix the Bluetooth so it work right on car audio systems that have it built in.
after updating my 3g iphone i received this meesage in Itunes "Itunes has detected a Iphone in recovery mode. You must restore this Iphone before it can be used with Itunes"

my 3g (with 2.2) now sync's via bluetooth to my mercedes ... before this upgrade the phone would sync, but couldn't place/receive calls.
What's the point of only having the option to rate when you delete an app? Obviously if you're deleting it, then most of the time it's going to be 1 or 2 stars.

I emailed Apple about the Ipod Touch not having the Maps updates and they simply told me that they are not compatible with Ipod Touch. I could see maybe leaving out Streetview since it doesn't have GPS, but the Mass Transit directions could be really helpful for people living in NYC or other big cities. I hope they don't include it in one of those $10 updates. How can they get away with charging for something that should be free. They should have implemented this stuff in the first place.
