zzzPhone now shipping with Android? T-Mobile doesn't seem terribly concerned
Those crazy zzzPhone kids are at it again, and this time they're jumping on the open handset bandwagon. Sure, the whole thing has always seemed excessively shady, and as far as we can tell no one has ever received a one of these devices, but apparently the made-to-order cellphone is now "shipping" with Android. If the optional TV tuner, 100,000 candlepower flashlight, or solid gold case (decked out with one karat diamonds) wasn't enough to lure you in, maybe this new development will seal the deal for you. Of course we're dying to put the modular mobile boom box attachment through its paces, but not so much that we'll be sending our hard earned cash over to the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone any time soon.

That's a snoozer.
Sean @ Nov 24th 2008 8:38PM
It looks too photo shopped to be real, but would be a nice design
ugg.tryptophan @ Nov 24th 2008 8:50PM
looks like a htc diamond mashed up with an iphone
1234321 @ Nov 24th 2008 9:35PM
one thing is for sure, the phone isn't locked to the keyboard
check out space difference above the 1 key and the = key

go to the website and you will see why it looks so ghetto
rock99rock @ Nov 24th 2008 11:38PM
Yea, the website looks like a shitty page put together in eBay.
t-o89 @ Nov 25th 2008 8:37AM
wow did they not notice the windows key or do they just not care im going with the second reason lol
HOOPER @ Nov 24th 2008 8:39PM
Aren't the keys on a QWERTY keyboard usually kinda staggered? This one is like a grid. I wonder if it'll be weird to type on.
racr @ Nov 24th 2008 8:54PM
" **** full qwert keyboard UPGRADE $39 "
the qwerty is not included in the "basic" model, neither is the " ****VIRTUAL KEYBOARD " which is $39 as well.

Wow, a google phone with a windows key on the keypad, innovative. This is clearly a fake.

Ahahahahahahhaha, that's so lame. Crooked HTC Touch Prop keyboard and some random top, great!

Just don't even worry about it.

Layer perspective tool is not their friend.
Ryan Trevisol @ Nov 24th 2008 8:56PM
That's so awesome. A phone with an OS with no on-screen keyboard, and the physical keyboard is an add-on.
Nouman @ Nov 24th 2008 8:58PM
another letter + phone combo, man this gets more unique by the phone!
ED @ Nov 24th 2008 9:11PM
At first glance I misread this as "sleeping with android" :o

I love the "testimonials":
"To zzzPhone,
I recently received my model z1.1 in the mail and I m really enjoying it. I'm 63 and am a bit near sighted, but the large screen is so easy to read and so sharp that I can even see it outside in day light. Also the hand writing recognition feature means I save hours looking for those little letters on the key pads. I never thought I'd be able to TXT my grandchildren and enjoy the mobil age.
Many Thanks,
Yours Truly

You also gotta love the "boom box" attachment and the way the Android home screen stretches when they turn it to landscape. All in all I think it's great, especially the $22,500 add-on of diamonds on a 18 karats(sic) gold case.
MyHeadisFed @ Nov 24th 2008 9:19PM
Why even report this garbage? Maybe if they, yanno, make a phone or something I'll care.
Robert @ Nov 24th 2008 9:19PM
I find it pretty weird how there's a Windows logo key on the lower left hand side of the qwerty keyboard.
Whoever photoshopped this, good job at failing.
rick @ Nov 24th 2008 9:30PM
check out the big delete key - where's "enter"?
Ricardo @ Nov 25th 2008 4:53AM
Yep, first thing I noticed, specially because it otherwise looks exactly like Touch Pro's keyboard.
Chris @ Nov 24th 2008 9:31PM
ZZZzzzz I love the terrible photoshop (more like they did it in paint) of the G1 screen turned and stretched.
ryan @ Nov 24th 2008 9:50PM
You guys are such zzzPhone fanboys.
FRZ @ Nov 24th 2008 10:08PM
Oh, thats terrible. The keyboard look bigger then the screen.
killajay @ Nov 24th 2008 10:11PM
who cares isnt android a open srouce
James @ Nov 24th 2008 10:15PM
You'd think these zzzfolks would at least put some creativity into it since they're going to fake it. I mean, just check out the Pomegranate Phone ( http://www.pomegranatephone.com ). Now there's at least some fantasy-like class.
Eric @ Nov 24th 2008 10:22PM
Maybe Engadget should order one of these, and decide how real it is...
Cory Kemble @ Nov 24th 2008 11:29PM
after reaserching this pretty well i think the reason the pic looks so fake is because it is. I dont think they have even manufactured any of these yet. looks like they did start making a phone previously(nothing like this one) but they had problems with there factory and didnt even full fill there orders. the previous phone had winmo so mabey thats why there is a windows button on the keyboard. overall i think its just another clone even if they dont want to admit it. I'd like to see an engadget hands on though.
mick @ Nov 24th 2008 11:48PM
good researching!! second google link gave me this http://www.bostonpocketpc.com/ZZZPhone++Nice+Idea+Too+Bad+Its+A+Scam.aspx some of the originals did get shipped out but where shipping with Symbian and not WinMo

This is a freaking hilarious joke. Please grandma, get me a zzzPhone for Christmas!
KarlW @ Nov 25th 2008 1:51AM
I watched that again just to hear her say "zzzPhone" again.
Looks like something they made in moviemaker with a laptop mic. Had a Disney film going on in the background.

it's an htc touch pro keyboard, along with a picture of the original meizu m8 when it still had the front camera and the home button from an iphone, as well as what looks like the end and call buttons from big red's touch diamond, all poorly photo shopped together.
Clearly, it's going to be a top competitor and will gain at least 50% of the market share.

Im glad im not the only one who noticed how horrifically photoshoped that image is...
Yeah i spotted the Touchpro keyboard right away... *strokes his touch pro sitting next to him*

Who said it was photoshop? I've been doing myself that kind of crappy images with MS Paint since win98, BTW once I got XP, seemed like I was using Fireworks instead. LOL

I love that it has a "Flashlite" and a "Projecter", a sneaky Windows key for Android. ..But wait there's more!!
Order now and you'll get not one.. but TWO DELETE KEYS!!

Too funny, they misspell their name on the buy button on the website, zzzhone. Also why is there a Microsoft button on an Android phone?
