Canon's EOS 5D Mark II reportedly hitting US stores (shelves?) today
It's near, the day that Canon's EOS 5D Mark II hits retail shelves (outside of China) is almost upon us. According to Rob Galbraith, the 21 megapixel, full-frame, Full HD-capable EOS 5D Mark II will leave Canon's US distribution centers starting today. That should translate to a body-only $2,699 retail appearance sometime this week if you're lucky. YouTube's new widescreen, high-definition, holiday videos will never be the same.

I'm so excited by this news! I cannot wait for this camera to be delivered to my door! The potential of this camera with its video and low light capabilities is so great that I created a wiki for the 5d. People have been collecting video and still samples from around the world that is very helpful to anyone thinking about buying the mk ii or wanting to see what it can do... http://planet5d.com

Yikes! Thanks - I've repaired it.

Thanks for the wiki, great stuff, in particular the video demo by Dan Chung.

Awesome, YouTube Unboxings and AVGN reviews in HD widescreen...
brad77 @ Nov 25th 2008 4:12PM
How can you record the unboxing of the camera in HD?
Buy two?

Did anyone notice that the lady who is holding the camera box is wearing a jacket with a Sony logo on it? I know this picture was used on a previous post about the 5D, so I'd love it if this became Engadget's de-facto picture for EOS 5D news, with a reasonably visible competitors logo on it.
Companies just love that sort of brand mixing stuff!
luzzio @ Nov 25th 2008 7:08AM
Maybe the Sony rep dropped by to diss it.
emi @ Nov 25th 2008 9:08AM
You are ASSUMING that is a Sony jacket - maybe she just loves Soy?
People are always jumping to conclusions...
Mr.Gadget Australia @ Nov 25th 2008 7:24AM
Which means that it should be hitting Aussie shelves very very soon too! (I hope)
Pretol @ Nov 25th 2008 7:28AM
21 megaschmixels for $2.5k is impressive...
From My Cube @ Nov 25th 2008 7:48AM
does his jacket say "sony"?
Josh @ Nov 25th 2008 8:55AM
On top of his shirt saying "Sony", he is wearing Nikon colors. Schizophrenic maybe?
Elliatab @ Nov 25th 2008 8:58AM
It will be available in Japan on the 29th Nov. for 298000 Yens (no lens kit)

I got my call from Adorama yesterday. It's true - they're shipping cameras out on Friday and Monday. They told me mine was shipping out Friday if I still wanted it, to which I replied a resounding YES.
It's about friggin' time, Canon. It's been two months.
jar155 @ Nov 25th 2008 10:29AM
Pretty exciting stuff. My first DSLR is actually arriving at any moment. I ordered a Canon EOS 40D, but my older brother is looking to get the 5D Mark II real soon. I wonder if he can resist the urge to jump on it right away or if he'll be out shooting with it before Christmas. Something tells me he'll have some real nice shots of his kids opening presents Christmas morning...
mike @ Nov 25th 2008 10:37AM
Yeah it's been 2 months... but it's exactly when they announced it would be available-- late November ;)
Tom @ Nov 25th 2008 10:39AM
People are always ruining my joy of complaining. Thanks Mike.
Mike @ Nov 25th 2008 12:28PM
You're welcome ;) At least you'll have your camera soon. I ordered from Adorama as well, but not till the 23 of September-- who knows when they'll have enough stock to fulfill my order (or how many weeks those days of hesitation will translate to). I have only myself to blame for the wait, heh...
loocas @ Nov 25th 2008 12:30PM
OH DEAR GOD, NOOOO!!
I live in the EU :(
bangladeshiluv @ Nov 25th 2008 12:44PM
im considering a DSLR. is this any good?
loocas @ Nov 25th 2008 1:03PM
You've gotta be kidding?
Go for a 1000D or at best 450D (if you fancy Canon), this one isn't for begginers. Of course, assuming you are a begginer based on the nonsense question.
Mike @ Nov 25th 2008 1:28PM
Well he could be a seasoned veteran with a film SLR-- though the comment does seem a bit casual for a first time dSLR buyer, given the price of this particular camera.
Either way, this looks to be a great camera-- but there are other options. Just do some homework and decide what fits your needs, budget, etc.

I actually went to the store 2 days ago to see if they got any early shipments. That's too bad they shipped today, since I just got a Nikon D700.
Dave @ Nov 26th 2008 7:37AM
Well,
I pre-ordered the 5D over two months ago. I put $1400 down. It turns out I'm #2 on the list. So I went into my local Mom and Pops (where I pre-ordered it), checking to see if my camera shipped today (25th). It turns out that Canon only shipped one camera....man I'm pissed! Why don't they just send out the cameras???
