Apple's completely unsurprising Black Friday deals appear on Australian site
Apple's Black Friday sales have appeared on their Australian site, giving us a little insight into the 'deals' we in the US can possibly expect tomorrow. It looks like the biggest cut will be on the new MacBooks and iMacs -- up to $100 off, with some smaller discounts on iPods and the Apple TV. Everything else falls pretty much in line with what we've seen in previous years. It's nothing terribly exciting or unexpected for sure, so if you were thinking about busting down the doors in search of a $7 iPhone tomorrow morning, you might want to cuddle in for a few extra winks instead.

With all that extra money they have and no debt, that's all that they can take off of their already overpriced items?
ropeburn @ Nov 27th 2008 11:31AM
the prices are not out of line if people continue to buy,
they offer the best devices and the prices are appropriate.
bottom line is that people will complain about price
some will never be happy with whatever price it is, they'll
always wish it were a few bucks cheaper.
doesn't make you a bad guy but you look foolish
complaining on a message board about it.
if you don't want it, buy the alternative.
why not the LS2LS7? @ Nov 27th 2008 11:58AM
Brandon, I don't think you have any understanding as to why companies have sales.
MarbleMind @ Nov 27th 2008 12:47PM
I agree, this is rather pathetic. They good've at least gone for 10%.
As somebody said below, you're better off cheating on the student accounts.
@LS2LS7
Care to elaborate? No? Then STFU, thank you.
MarbleMind @ Nov 27th 2008 12:52PM
*could've
why not the LS2LS7? @ Nov 27th 2008 3:18PM
Trying to relate the percentage of discount against the amount of cash on hand is ridiculous. I don't think either of you know why companies have sales like this.
They do it to try to increase sales and profits. If the product is already selling well, there's not a lot of reason to discount it, you'll just reduce your profits. It has nothing to do with having no debt!
Look at the Wii for example. Nintendo gives no discounts on it, and by the way, Nintendo has a lot of cash on hand too!
Samboini @ Nov 27th 2008 3:40PM
Steve Jobs has deep pockets and short arms.
MarbleMind @ Nov 27th 2008 4:00PM
@why not the LS2LS7?
Quite so. But there's something like "bon ton". If you don't have and want to give any discount, then don't do so at all. Price cuts below 10% are a mockery of the clientage and one that's not taken in very well to boot. Especially when the product ranges in a rather high price area like Apple products do.
Trent @ Nov 27th 2008 8:27PM
Apple's discounts absolutely SUCK ASS!!! Target offers a $15 Target card for the $199 iPod which is a better DEAL. In regards to their Macs...they are already overpriced so offering a REAL discount like other pc makers would definitely help Apple sell more and get me to buy another Mac.
abhisheksuman @ Nov 27th 2008 11:10AM
"Black Friday Mac discounts underway" This article came yesterday in engadget. Engadget was spot on discounts to be offered. (I wonder how Engadget correctly gets it right about everything related to apple)
Shadyman @ Nov 27th 2008 3:09PM
Dare I suggest that Apple is predictable?
Patriks7 @ Nov 27th 2008 11:13AM
" It looks like the biggest cut will be on the new MacBooks and iMacs -- up to $100 off, "
Well I don't know if I'm blind, but it says 161$ for the MacBook and 61$ for the iMac..
rattyuk @ Nov 27th 2008 11:16AM
@patriks7
THOSE ARE AUSTRALIAN dollar prices...
I think they said they would also match prices from other retailers.
Brad @ Nov 27th 2008 11:18AM
This might help you understand: http://www.x-rates.com/calculator.html
tylerstempinski @ Nov 27th 2008 11:17AM
It's Australian Currency.
Read Much?
Patriks7 @ Nov 27th 2008 11:22AM
God :| Well I'm assuming if they start out with Australian dollars, then they end with them as well.. but it still makes no sense as I highly doubt 61 and 161 both = 100$..
Dave Chappelle @ Nov 27th 2008 9:08PM
on the topic of Australia, do we even recognise Black Friday? lol.
We have Boxing Day, and its on the 26th of December... but unlike Black Friday this is a scam and shops bring out all their unsold crap and discount it they give no discounts for the good stuff.
Brad @ Nov 27th 2008 11:14AM
Well considering in Australia we dont have "black Friday specials" this may not be indicative of what the US will get today (tomorrow)
Bosco @ Nov 27th 2008 2:37PM
Yeah, Black Friday is premised on masses of hung over, over stuffed people waking up at O-dark-thirty to get to the malls to wait in line for discounts like citizens in communist countries waited in line for bread. It's a distinctly American event.
hamerhead_12 @ Nov 28th 2008 3:15PM
Wow, $100 off! Now its slightly less of a rip-off!
youngstunna @ Nov 27th 2008 11:15AM
still overpriced
Flashpoint @ Nov 27th 2008 11:18AM
No kidding.
If you were however saving money towards one of these products, you'd no doubt appreciate a savings of over $150 on a Macbook for example.
I found out yesterday I can listen to internet radio on my iPhone.
gad get @ Nov 27th 2008 11:16AM
Apple's idea of a sale is laughable.
(01) @ Nov 27th 2008 11:34AM
then don't buy an Apple product.
mobileme @ Nov 27th 2008 11:49AM
IMO Apple's idea of a product is laughable, too.
iEye @ Nov 27th 2008 12:10PM
$299 4GB iPhone was not good enough for you?
$199 refurbs from AT&T?
Too bad you did not get on the bandwagon when you had the chance... not your will have to pay!!! $$$$ if you want some sort of touch screen phone... moo ha ha!
roole @ Nov 27th 2008 2:53PM
@mobileme, to paraphrase.....
then don't buy an Apple product.
gad get @ Nov 27th 2008 3:08PM
@ (01) and roole
You guys give the best advice.
go seki @ Nov 27th 2008 3:17PM
Certainly the idea of a "Black Friday Sale" whatever that is .. certainly everyone in this part of the world thinks of Friday 13th ..
And yes Apple sales are also laughable .. since they are outrageously overpriced south of the equator.
Mikko @ Nov 27th 2008 11:33AM
Ridiculous. I rather use their student discounts.
lucas @ Nov 28th 2008 1:59AM
good luck with that. around here (Los Angeles) at least they have been really policing the student discount fraud. if you can't produce some form of current student id, forget it.
as for the notion of BF discounts, no they don't have to discount anything, just like they don't have to price match. there's no law requiring them to do either or to publicly display that they will price match
but now that every blog out there has advertised that they do price match, they are in a position of needing to discount to cover that issue so they don't have to deal with lines etc while they verify, note etc every price match so the managers don't get fired for discount fraud.
Chizzed @ Nov 27th 2008 11:44AM
That definitely sort of sucks. It's almost a worse deal than the educational promotions, because at least then you got a free iPod touch.
Lamerz.
They don't care though. They'll still bank.
Chizzed @ Nov 27th 2008 11:46AM
And $7 off an iPod nano is a bit laughable..
I'm literally LoL
XChrisX @ Nov 27th 2008 11:47AM
This sale is better than nothing. Takes care of the tax or most of it anyways. People get so greedy and always want something for nothing. Agreed with rope burn in that the prices will never be low enough, and everyone will always want it cheaper.
Johnny @ Nov 27th 2008 11:49AM
@ Patriks7
You're an idiot. As of right now, A$161 = US$106.26. Do a bit of homework before you waste electrons with your posts.
Nick K. @ Nov 27th 2008 1:13PM
He isn't "wasting" any electrons at all... Besides, we have electron-positron annihilation occurring spontaneously at all times... Why don't you tell quantum mechanics that it's wasting electrons?
Jon Nelson @ Nov 27th 2008 1:59PM
Damnit, Quantum Mechanics! Stop wasting electrons!
Erv @ Nov 27th 2008 12:00PM
ON par with other retailers this year, I don't see any good deals on anything anywhere. I keep hearing how retailers were gonna make some big price cuts to lure shoppers....well were are they?
jake @ Nov 27th 2008 12:06PM
This is why everyone needs to take advantage of microsoft live cashback and ebay coupons. I just bought the new macbook on ebay for 920 bucks..shipping and everything.
CoreyMac @ Nov 27th 2008 12:10PM
Man.....nothing off the pro and the air? I want a new portable 13" laptop, but I think the new Air is better than the new macbook (due to build quality and screen quality espcially)
Scott @ Nov 27th 2008 12:13PM
I don't really consider a "sale" on anything until it hits 30% off the original price. Thirty percent off is what will get me off my arse and into a store. Ten percent is just sales tax. Twenty percent gets me thinking about a product. Thirty percent usually gets me to buy something I wanted in the first place. So, c'mon Apple! Give me a 30% off an iPhone and I'll be a customer (I'm already writing this on a PowerBook) again by Friday.
roole @ Nov 27th 2008 2:57PM
30% gets you $90 off the 16GB.
So you're basically saying that you'd buy the iPhone **at full price** if ATT -- assuming you're in the US -- gives you a 23-month contract?
Syndication @ Nov 27th 2008 3:21PM
@roole
Apple fanboy much?
roole @ Nov 27th 2008 9:24PM
@Syndication
See the obvious much?
jefe @ Nov 27th 2008 12:17PM
Maybe Apple doesn't understand what Black Friday is? ... maybe they think it's a Catholic holiday or something? You can get better pricing on an educational sales portal any day of the year. This is not about PC vs. Mac. This is about $ vs. Black Friday Sales.
Bootes @ Nov 27th 2008 2:40PM
Well I've yet to see any black friday deals this year that I would actually consider a deal. Most are normal prices I could find any day of the year if I just did a little searching, aren't really any cheaper then they usually are, or are just crap (10 inch LCDTV I just saw advertised on TV).
DT @ Nov 27th 2008 12:59PM
Well Apple has been "black" all year long, so they really have no incentive to give you a tremendous deal just to make the sale.
Romesh @ Nov 27th 2008 3:59PM
As Brad said before, in Australia Black Friday specials normally don't exist. Which is why as an Australian, I'm kind of surprised we're getting any Black Friday discounts at all
toxicpiano @ Nov 27th 2008 12:35PM
Apparently even rip off land (UK) is getting some kind of shopping event!
Adam @ Nov 27th 2008 12:37PM
Well I guess they are just doing this to say they joined the fun, but really you can tell they don't really want to give anyone any real savings because they know people will buy there stuff at full price so why take a lot off.
As a business stand point it makes sense.
