Apple's completely unsurprising Black Friday deals appear on Australian site
Apple's Black Friday sales have appeared on their Australian site, giving us a little insight into the 'deals' we in the US can possibly expect tomorrow. It looks like the biggest cut will be on the new MacBooks and iMacs -- up to $100 off, with some smaller discounts on iPods and the Apple TV. Everything else falls pretty much in line with what we've seen in previous years. It's nothing terribly exciting or unexpected for sure, so if you were thinking about busting down the doors in search of a $7 iPhone tomorrow morning, you might want to cuddle in for a few extra winks instead.
[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

What joke, thanks Apple but seriously, this is the BEST you can do with all the Billions of dollars your loyal customers have shelled out in iPhones alone, seriously.....you can and should have done better than this, most of these are like 10% IF that!!
LAME!
People quit defending Apple, these are crap discounts and you know it!!!! most are less than 10% off....they def. should have done much better than this!!!! Especially after the piles of cash WE (well most) have shelled out over the years on their products and OS's etc.
Apple c'mon, how about a little break once in awhile!!!!! seriously.
Flame me if you want, but you know I'm right, these prices or so-called deals sucks!
I agree with you , but they are a business trying to make money as well. They know people who buy Apple's stuff is more than willing to pay full price so why give a good discount when all it will do is hurt your profit?
I don't buy Apple stuff because I don't like it, but it seems the loyal customers would pay anything for the computers and stuff so I see Apple's point with the discounts or lack of.
That's right! It hasn't gotten to the point where Apple fans/loyal customers won't buy Apple products because they are so outraged. They will just complain a bit, and still pay the higher prices.
its overpriced, in this economy if u dnt see that price is overpriced then you need a reality check
I was completely unaware Apple owed you anything. So, when you buy an iPhone (or whatever), what percentage of the value you receive for your money is determined by Apple's future discount rates?
For example, if Apple only gives 5% off for Xmas instead of 10%, is your enjoyment of your iPhone you purchased a year ago lessened 50%? Or you would you say it's more like 30%?
In short, stop whining about what you already bought and what Apple owes you. Just concentrate on the prices. If you don't like them, don't buy.
Meh, it's all economics. Apple will make as much as can get max profit and charge you people whatever you're willing to pay.
OKAY, first off chill, Apple owes me nothing! I Love their products! I'm just simply saying that they could have done a bit better than they did on their sales for Black Friday!!! That's all.....so everyone just chill. Don't you have turkey to eat? Didn't mean to piss everyone of here, I'm just saying I thought they could have done a bit better on their sales prices is all, I've spent over 6,000.00 dollars on their stuff in the last year and it wouldn't hurt to show a little bit of love to their VERY loyal fan-base. I think a few people here over thought or mistook my statement, maybe it came over harsh, who knows. Happy ThanksGiving! :-)
P.S. I just bought an iPod touch! So there pllllfffttttthhhhh!!!!!! LOL
I Love You All!!!!!!
It's called Black Friday because this is when most retailers finally make a profit after being in the red all year, by doing heavy volume. Apple has been making a profit all year, so they don't have much of an incentive to heavily discount. People will buy iPods for christmas presents regardless of any discount.
Apple's Black Friday deal is a bag of hurt
what a joke.
I bought my macbook pro last week with the student discount....you guys think it could be possible to still get some of that black friday goodness added on?...I really am a student and kinda struggling...
*black friday discount goodness added on to the student discount*
If you're struggling, why did you buy a macbook pro? I don't mean to flame, but do you really need a macbook pro to get through school? There's a reason why I see all those listings on craigslist of people selling their new macs because they couldn't afford them and need to pay rent for next month. Don't buy things you can't afford, save money instead. I know it sounds like words from a condescending jackass, but I was in college not too long ago. Hell, I graduated in January of this year and I'm telling you that debt is not going to get any easier to pay off once you get out of college (unless your parents are paying for tuition). I landed in a great job, but I was really bracing for the worst.
If you're really struggling, sell the mac and buy a cheaper or used laptop. There is no reason to put yourself in debt just to buy a new computer.
@Syndication, where did he say anything about 'debt'?
You're a struggling student and you bought a macbook pro? Seriously? There is absolutely no reason that you should need a Mac for eduction, and even if you wanted one why exactly would one of the cheaper ones not suffice? You know I'm usually sorry for struggling students, but it's quite clear that the only person to blame for your debt is you.
@roole
If he's struggling after he bought a macbook pro, you can be pretty much assured that either 1) he is in credit card debt or 2) borderline debt where revenues < expenses.
Last I checked, having little to no savings and being one paycheck or financial aid disbursement away from having debt is not any better than being in debt. It's about the same.
In short, it's a minor technicality, just how the unemployment rate doesn't take in the account the people who have stopped looking for a job.
I hope that clears it up for you.
Wow guys thanks for not answering my question. As if I really needed to go into it, the reason I got a MacBook Pro was because my parents helped me foot the bill on half of it (no matter which one I chose) and seeing as how I needed the screen space and personal preference of a mac over pc since I hope to be a graphic designer it made sense over the regular MacBook. I wont be getting a computer every year like some of you so I wanted the best I could get since my current comp is 4 and a half years old. The difference I payed was $250 or so dollars more than if I would have gotten the regular MacBook. Anyway, as far as struggling goes I'm not dying I have a good job and I'm getting paid decent but I'm not flourishing. So maybe struggling was the wrong word, but struggling can have a variety of meanings to different people. Anyway I still have a little extra at the end of the month to save, I just wanted to know (and still do) if anyone knows whether I could get that discount stacked on top of my student discount.
@Syndication, to quote someone in this thread, "I hope that clears it up for you. "
PS: I am suitably impressed that you know how 'unemployment' is defined by the BLS.
@roole
Actually it does, he'll need to start saving if he wants a career in digital art. He may as well give back his parents back the money for his laptop and the money for his degree.
£26 off an iMac? That's....that's...epic!
We ineducated PC folk can now dabble in shiny world of Apple for a smaller cost.
Pricing done by an iTard, it seems.
*runs away before Zak and his iCult arrive*
"ineducated"?
And when will PC trolls realize that they're not any better than Mac trolls/Linux trolls/whatever? A troll is a troll is a troll.
These deals are hardly doorbusters, but if you expect Apple to behave like a deep discount retailer, than you're fooling yourself. They're simply not that sort of company, for better or for worse.
Still, I'd expect slightly better deals in the US tomorrow - Australia doesn't really celebrate Black Friday, IIRC. Expect $100 off the consumer computers (iMac and MacBook) - that's $50 more than the student discounts they offer all year round - and $10 to $30 off the iPods, I guess? Apple's making a big push with the iPod touch, so it'd be nice of them to discount its $229 starting price to that magic "$199" figure. That's about, what, ~15% off, which is hardly something to sneeze at.
Happy Thanksgiving, everybody! And happy Ordinary Thursday, people outside the US. :-P
Are you people new? Apple does this every year, don't expect anything more
I have yet to see any Black Friday deals worth campin' out for this year.
Were Black Friday deals better in the past, or were we all drunk on the artificial cash flow and (more) willing to burn money on things we didn't need?
I could probably find a way that Apple's pricing makes (business) sense*. But, c'mon Jobs! Chop a little off the price, man!
* their financials are nasty-good: zero debt, almost as much liquid as their annual revenue(!). That's some financial responsibility. If only Ford, GM, Citibank, Washington Mutual, Sun, ... were as responsible.
There is a one day special for the UK as well.
Dell FTW, its saving all year long!
In keeping with the Christmas spirit:
You're a mean one, Mr. Jobs.
You really are a heel.
You're as cuddly as a cactus,
You're as charming as an eel.
Mr. Jobs.
You're a bad banana
With a greasy black peel.
You're a monster, Mr. Jobs.
Your heart's an empty hole.
Your brain is full of spiders,
You've got garlic in your soul.
Mr. Jobs.
I wouldn't touch you, with a
thirty-nine-and-a-half foot pole.
You're a vile one, Mr. Jobs.
You have termites in your smile.
You have all the tender sweetness
Of a seasick crocodile.
Mr. Jobs.
Given the choice between the two of you
I'd take the seasick crocodile.
You're a foul one, Mr. Jobs.
You're a nasty, wasty skunk.
Your heart is full of unwashed socks
Your soul is full of gunk.
Mr. Jobs.
The three words that best describe you,
are, and I quote: "Stink. Stank. Stunk."
You're a rotter, Mr. Jobs.
You're the king of sinful sots.
Your heart's a dead tomato splot
With moldy purple spots,
Mr. Jobs.
Your soul is an apalling dump heap
overflowing with the most disgraceful assortment
of deplorable rubbish imaginable,
Mangled up in tangled up knots.
You nauseate me, Mr. Jobs.
With a nauseaus super-naus.
You're a crooked jerky jockey
And you drive a crooked horse.
Mr. Jobs.
You're a three decker saurkraut and toadstool sandwich
With arsenic sauce.
You need to be medicated.
Nah. He already has to much time on his hands.
I do feel this is kind of a kick in the head. I think it's less about a company's perceived obligation to provide discounts because it's sitting on gabillions in cash (I agree that's a dumb argument), but more about them doing an inane head-fake pretending to jump on the bandwagon of other retailers positioning themselves for a serious attempt at gaining sales in one of the most challenged retail environments anyone has seen in years. AAPL certainly has the prerogative to not participate in the BF deep discount game and rely on the fact that they can and will do well selling upscale products to upscale folks, but this crap about them sending me all kinds of advertisements and teasers stating jargon like "Our biggest sale of the entire year" is just that a headfake- empty and at the very least disingenuous.
I am at the ready to pull the trigger on a MBP, but will tell you as sold as I am on the product, even I simply cannot place an order when comparing comparable prices on similarly speced lappies. And before y'all jump on the "Oh you cannot compare a $600 Dell Latitude with same HDD, dedicated GPU, memory etc to everything that is a MBP- DON'T. I understand and agree with all those arguments- the OS, hardware integrity, etc being the very reasons why I go Apple. But there are orders of magnitude with everything and there is a *massive* price point disparity when you look at what you can get sub $1K versus a $2600 MBP.
All that said, it may be wishful thinking on my part, but those drawing comps to Australia's Black Friday promo (they don't even have a BF) to what's anticipated for the US may be jumping the gun. On the investment side of things, AAPL has really been quite deliberate giving a heads-up to us stockholders that they plan on being particularly aggressive this season which will hurt margins year over year but with the goal of blowing away revenues. So, I think something may still be in the wind which will make us smile.
But unless they come out with a 'get a free 32 GB iPod Touch with the purchase of any MBP' (i claim no personal knowledge should this happen between 12/15 and 12/28 :) then I agree people should be thoroughly annoyed by a company whose playing the BF discount game touting their biggest sale ever with nada backing it up.
Does anyone know whether the US online apple store will begin offering discounts at 12 AM eastern or 3 AM eastern?
I just bought an iMac last week. The next day I got an email about "black friday". Guess I spent a week worrying about nothing. Someone should tell Steve jobs that when you're shelling out serious money for one of his PCs, a $61 discount isn't life changing. It sure gives us plenty to write about though...
...if you're living in Australia.
Well I am disappointed. I spent weeks tracking the sale prices and all this hoopla about a discount was just pathetic. Really Steve go hang yourself. There are a lot of American's out there that are struggling and need something sturdy because they are tired of buying laptops every year due to lack of quality. I bet Steve finds this situation laughable. I bet he and his friends gather to read the blogs to make fun of the "lower" class buyers who can't afford quality. I bet he also laughs at the idiots who support the outrageous prices with their failed attempt to be in the "in" crowd and exert some type of image of superiority over the rest. Steve Jobs if you are reading this blog, go put yourself in the air and I will gladly kick away the chair.
