I have waited for years for a Cowon upgrade from my 4 1/2 years old IAudio X5. Since then Cowon has not released a large capacity mp3 player (32 GB and over) thatat has iD3 tag browsing (with the option of folder browsing), or in the case of flash memory, sd expansion slot, and of course a great ui with good controls. When will they get it?! I'm not buying any mp3 player, especially from cowon, that doesn't offer these specs. I guess I'll have to keep using my 20GB X5 for a little bit longer (the battery only holds a charge for 3 hrs now)
Wow, your mp3 sounds like an antique for a second but then I completely understand where you're coming from. Among the reviews I read on amazon and elsewhere are the issues with id3 tag browsing for music files. In addition, people also complained Cowon has bad support service as well as not dev' a great UI or atleast to the par to compete with the latest competitors..
Well, after commenting earlier above, I finally bought the Archos 5 250GB w/some incredible 20% online coupon w/free shipping. I was tempted to get the Archos 7 but I doubt that will be compact to carry [I know it'll be nice 2 watch movies] but may be not as portable to carry around w/o scratches n dents cuz of the size.
Anyhow, good luck with your wait. I've waited for a long time and wasn't an Apple fan either.....altho I love their products...just didn't like the idea of being tied to their monopolized way of managing user's music library. I'd like to have complete control over what music library w/o having to jump so many hoops to transfer btw different media players.
I feel you man. I wanted to buy an X5 for the longest time but they were already about a year and a half old when I thought about it and I figured I'd just wait for the followup. It's no replacement, but I've been using a D2 with expandable memory and since you can get the D2 in 16gb and add at least another 16gb, it's worked pretty well for me while I wait for the true X5 followup.
On the other hand, I'm starting to think it's impossible for me to get an mp3 player that will hold all my media like my Creative Zen Vision:M did at one point, as my mp3 collection grows faster than player capacities do (at least in recent times), except for the iPod or Zune, which aren't right for me. The DAP market has taken a bit of a reboot it seems in terms of memory trends. The HDD is seeing its last days, I mean after a certain point I just won't care how many hundreds of gigabytes an iPod has at $250, I just want 30-60 GB of flash. So until then, we'll just have to be patient because it seems like most manufacturers are putting their eggs in the flash basket and are waiting until flash will catch up with the HDD players of old, rather than dividing their attention between the two. There just isn't much of a future for HDD, while flash's is shining bright.
oh man, iaudio X5 owners UNITE! cowon's sound quality has always rocked my socks but their UI always seems to be rather clunky and complicated. I'm also rather unimpressed by the build quality of my X5; the joystick has broken once through normal use and the headphone jack stops outputting stereo sound every once in a while (loose connections inside the unit...) So my experiences make me wary of dropping serious lettuce on the S9 if it's gonna break down on me like my X5...
Sony's just released a 15.5-inch addition to its VAIO S Series that not only adds a crucial bit of extra display acreage, but also bumps things up to a full 1080p.
