Nokia's 5800 XpressMusic goes on sale somewhere in the world
If you've been gritting your teeth and letting the PR onslaught of the iPhone 3G, Storm, and G1 knock you around as you waited for Nokia's entry into the widescreen, touchscreen superphone market -- that wait appears to be nearing it's end. Nokia has gone and gotten all official and release-y with it's anticipated (if somewhat disappointing) 5800 XpressMusic... or as we know it, the Tube. According to the company's PR, the device "is now, or will be soon" available in Russia, Spain, India, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Finland, "among others." If you'll recall, the phone boasts a 3.2-inch, 16:9 resistive touchscreen (hey, they throw in a guitar pick stylus), a 3.2-megapixel camera, 8GB of on-board storage, and the constant assurance that you're using a phone once called the Tube. No word on price or plans, but we expect cheap, and lots.

Not sure if you even know what you are talking, but just how much overpriced is iphone with, what at least over 399 unlocked?
5800 will be free in every carrier that it sell. Except NA carriers that won't have it(I presume any of the Kanadiens carriers won't have it, right?)
Now take this apple, a true "bag of hurt". Good for consumers, not so good for 'bandits' like yourself...
Sales starts here (where i am) in Russia already from 26th of november.
Every day Nokia will be shipped here in flagship store 120 items of Tube.
No preorders. Sales by the live line.
All of this quantity (120) is already sold in 44 minutes from start... and many-many people wants to get it.
To contrast:
Official sales of Apple iPhone in Russia is ruined. From the start all cell companies sells only near 150 thousand items - and thats from at least million items that they bought from Apple.
Noone buys iPhone here by this reasons: 1. Price is overhuge - near $1050 for 8Gb. 2. Everyone who needed it - already get it from US and Europe at least 6 months earlier before official sales starts.
@pachi: let's just be Tube/Nokia fanboys without bashing others, m'kay?
I understand that it's uplifting that finally we get our touchscreen too, but no need to bash the poor soon-to-be-crying guys in the corner ;-)
I'm from Hong Kong...the phone starts selling tmr (29/11) for HK$3988. No Comes with Music or any other software I'm afraid.
Kind of disappointed because the final price is 33% higher than the 279 Euros. Couple that with the fact that there's no VAT in Hong Kong and it just makes it seem like Nokia's trying to get us Chinese to pay a lot more than the 279 Euros...
The "Tube" will be on sell in Taiwan (ROC) for NT$14900, about U$D450. and of course, UNLOCKED!
I got mine today, just released in Hong Kong, cost US$500. It's worth the money. Some say its a plastic toy, I say there is absolutely no problems wit it being plastic, sturdy as hell. Could look more stylish thou.
Spotted in Hong Kong for 3800-3988 HKD = 490-516 USD, according to price.com.hk.
Oh, also available from Yesasia, it seems, for 559.99 USD.
In Hong Kong, it's now at $3980 (USD$514), far more expensive than the anticipated $279 Euro.
Finland price at 379€

Guys, Official price for the indian shores released, its Rs. 21839 -> USD $440/-. The handset is set to reach the public for this newyear...
I don't think if I'll still be as enthusiastic about the 5800 after the holidays. Nokia's marketing must know what they're doing by withholding this phone in most markets till 2009. I was hoping to buy this phone and show it off to my iPhone & HTC touchscreen cellphone-equipped friends, specially given its good price. Well good price or good features don't mean nothing if it ain't available.
Still I like Nokia. If I can't buy it now, then I'll have more self-control and not indulge in instant gratification and wait for the N97 or the rumored edge-to-edge cellphone with a more advance S60 touchscreen interface (http:// www.engadgetmobile.com/2008/12/08/mysterious-new-nokia-touchscreen-interface-and-handset-unveiled/). Early adopters of the 5800 without the benefit of the holiday season show-it-off? No buying remorse ok :-).
