Apple's US Black Friday sale now live
What started down under has followed the sun home, Apple's Black Friday sale is now live at the US Apple store. At first glance the sale is consistent with years past and what we've already seen In Australia and elsewhere -- so much for all the analyst expectations of a big blow out.

Great, prices that are more than the education discount and/or Amazon.com's standard rebate prices. Excuse me while I am underwhelmed.
LondonConsultant @ Nov 28th 2008 6:02AM
I wonder if Apple's UK sale will continue into next week - our VAT rate will reduce from 17.5% to 15% on Monday...
Big Al @ Nov 28th 2008 12:46PM
Wow... I was expecting more from Apple. I doubt anyone will buy at these insane prices. Wake up Apple, we're in a recession! Gonna wait until after Christmas I guess
Tim @ Nov 28th 2008 4:01AM
8gb iPod Touch for $378....sale?
Hawk Pidgeon @ Nov 28th 2008 4:26AM
That is a little weird... isn't it normally $229?
Someone's getting a pay cut for this. :P
Drew Green @ Nov 28th 2008 7:29AM
My thoughts exactly.
ABCNewser @ Nov 28th 2008 10:57AM
I talked to "Brian, D." in the Apple Store's Instant Messanger and he said that was a typo. Btw, has Apple's return policy always around now been "you can return it before Jan 9, 10% restocking fee if opened.", where Jan 9 just happens to be the end of Macworld?
Tony @ Nov 28th 2008 6:09PM
yeah. if you click that one theres the actual prices on the next page.
Retromortal @ Nov 28th 2008 5:31PM
Those are the AU Prices
Aaron @ Nov 28th 2008 8:47PM
@ABCNewser
it is 2 weeks from Christmas... the normal return policy is 2 weeks from date of purchase, that's the holiday return policy.
Jeff @ Nov 28th 2008 10:21PM
Yeah, it's really the 32 GB version running for that price, but the front ad is quite misleading. Shocked me a bit too. :P
gad get @ Nov 28th 2008 4:01AM
WOOO!!! $11 discount on iPod Nano! How could I NOT buy one? WOOOOOOOO!!!
(Sorry.)
Taylor @ Nov 28th 2008 5:08AM
This Black Friday sale is just a bag of hurt, Steve Jobs.
Sorry, it had to be said.
ABCNewser @ Nov 28th 2008 11:01AM
You can go to Target an save more, they give you a $15 gift card, after $5 off original price.
Backlin @ Nov 28th 2008 11:53AM
"Apple" and "blowout" should never be in the same sentence.
)ROFL( @ Nov 28th 2008 4:03AM
$51...$11...$21...wtf. More like lame friday.
Tim Brown @ Nov 28th 2008 4:29AM
It appears that Apple is trying to avoid being associated with anything as uncool as the festive spirit. It does not fit in with their "cool" image. iScrooge indeed! Come on Apple join in and start to give little Timmy what he needs without the 50%+ profit margins you so hunger for.
j_g_puff @ Nov 28th 2008 4:42AM
Timmy B,
Apple execs gotta buy turkey too, y'know. Are you deliberately trying to ruin the festive season for them?
Alex @ Nov 28th 2008 4:55AM
Turkey? With just £5 off I reckon they'd be getting Swan instead.
Patriks7 @ Nov 28th 2008 6:05AM
True.. and I fail to see how this post is "breaking" :\ Didn't Engadget already have 3 posts or so about what the prices might be?
CraigJ @ Nov 28th 2008 10:00AM
As someone who follows Apple's financials, their sales are so strong that they don't need to discount deeply. If you were selling something, and you could sell as many as could you make for $1,000, would you just start selling them for $750 out of the goodness of your heart? Be honest. I know I wouldn't.
steven @ Nov 28th 2008 12:16PM
"As someone who follows Apple's financials"
What, you visit TUAW everyday?
William Dowell @ Nov 28th 2008 4:05AM
Am I the only one who is thinking that Apple's bolchy confidence is going to bite them in the neck? It doesnt matter how good thier products are if people dont have the money (or facility to borrow it) in thier pocket..
gad get @ Nov 28th 2008 4:07AM
Plus their products just aren't that good.
KAIKAI @ Nov 28th 2008 8:17AM
well on the brightside
......damn its not really bright
but your getting 11 dollars off a product thats already $50 overpriced :)
poematik14 @ Nov 28th 2008 2:33PM
Everything that has a beginning, has an end. Apple products are the big fad of the 2000's, much like the Walkman was in the 80's and 90's.
In the next year or two, there will be a new hot company/product that will sell "innovative" products and steal the media's heart. Im pretty sure once the iPod gets stale, the Zune will take over.
Taylor @ Nov 28th 2008 9:37PM
poematik14:
I can see there being a new fad.
But I don't see it being the Zune.
Tinus Guichelaar @ Nov 28th 2008 4:10AM
This is pethatic.
Graham @ Nov 28th 2008 4:53AM
I lol'd at your comment.
StupidAE86man @ Nov 28th 2008 4:10AM
Meh, you only save $1 over buying your MacBook at Best Buy.
StupidAE86man @ Nov 28th 2008 4:11AM
Oh, forget about doubling Education + Black Friday discounts. Prices are the same. I checked.
William Dowell @ Nov 28th 2008 4:14AM
Just how great is that?! I'll be running to the store in an instant. NOT.

MarbleMind @ Nov 28th 2008 4:14AM
Looks like the black friday sale is confined to accessoires, or what's listed in the green box. Those price cuts are actually quite decent.
It's kind of sad though, if you can give a $250 discount for Mac Office ($499.95) but won't cut $100 from your $1200 20'' iMac. Sure, the reasons are obvious, but still...
Edward @ Nov 28th 2008 4:14AM
It is not just this year. Apple did it for a long time in the past. I don't expect any deal every year. I think refurbished mac or iPod is real bug deal.
Thi mam(kris120890) @ Nov 28th 2008 4:22AM
Apple ar the only people that can give a sale and stiil blow you mind with high prices. I mean only £30 off the cheaper Macbook is a joke?. £11 off the iPod touch? you can save £30 just by not buying it from Apple and from internet retailer.
klew @ Nov 28th 2008 4:24AM
Assuming that Apple is already profitable for the year, it's more like Blacker Friday. How does that Spinal Tap quote go?
Eli Gundry @ Nov 28th 2008 12:08PM
"It goes it 11 percent"
"Why not just make it cheaper and sell it all year at that price?"
"Well this one goes to 11"
gabe @ Nov 28th 2008 4:29AM

Woop
and this comes from an iphone fanboy
now burn apple burn
Bender @ Nov 28th 2008 4:31AM
I have never seen such a proliferation of whiny bitches as I see on Engadget comments. You'd think someone at Apple burned down your house, kidnapped your wife, and kicked your dog. GET OVER IT. Don't like Apple's prices? Go to friggin' Best Buy and pick up an Insignia and STFU. Seriously.
What is with all of the Apple hatred here, anyway?
Kelmon @ Nov 28th 2008 5:04AM
I think we're just miffed that as "sales" go, this one seems to have missed the point that you are supposed to reduce your prices. I do not consider price reductions of a mere 4% to be worth the articles and marketing performed by Apple.
Dale @ Nov 28th 2008 10:27AM
How can you be so insensitive? He kicked my dog yesterday.
Rhymer @ Nov 28th 2008 4:40AM
I been eyeing a new MacBook Pro, firstly I wasn't overly impressed with the last upgrade and I definitely underwhelmed by the sale!
I think I'm losing my love for Apple after 12 years of being a faithful customer, not that I have much love for the alternatives.
Joseph @ Nov 28th 2008 4:53AM
So just because the items aren't on sale on Black Friday, they're "losing their touch" so to speak?
Rhymer @ Nov 28th 2008 5:13AM
That isn't what I'm saying. It's just that personally not getting excited by Apple at the moment and I have been a fan for a long time.
I guess that I have number of minor grips that have built up and the Sale being so unattractive isn't helping... Perhaps I need to buy a Dell to realise how lucky I really am.
Graham @ Nov 28th 2008 4:53AM
Wow, a whole £11 off an Apple TV in the UK, I can't wait to bu... oh wait. Did I miss something? I thought Apple said today was a "one day sale," not an "April fool."
I've seen better discounts on Vegas hookers.
Kelmon @ Nov 28th 2008 5:02AM
That was exactly what I was looking for and, given that the Apple TV hasn't exactly been a roaring success, I thought they might offer a discount worth all the fuss. However, I am not interested in a mere 4% discount on a product that is considerably expensive relative to the US, and which is still expensive given that you'll be using it to buy more from the iTunes Store (I want one for movie rentals). I was slightly concerned that the Apple TV will be overhauled in January but now that concern is moot.
mtpunkty @ Nov 28th 2008 5:01AM
7.8% off the MacBook
4.3% off the iMac
7.4% off the iPod Nano
8.5% off the iPod Classic
5.3% off the iPod Touch
Awesome sale Apple...
Michael Scrip @ Nov 28th 2008 6:11AM
> "Awesome sale Apple..."
In case you haven't noticed... Apple's price points are set everywhere... Apple store, Best Buy, Wal-Mart, etc. They don't let retailers discount their hardware... ever.
So, at least it's a little discount for Black Friday. It's not great... but did you really expect more?
deyanimay @ Nov 28th 2008 6:32AM
That doesn't even cover taxes in New York state.
