Remember that completely insane
crime wave that hit when Sony's hotly anticipated PlayStation 3 finally rushed onto the scene in very limited numbers? Yeah, well that side of humanity is rearing its ugly head again, as an employee perished when legions of crazed
Black Friday shoppers blazed through the doors of a Long Island Walmart. The worker was an overnight store clerk who was simply trying to hold back the crowds before the doors officially opened at 5:00AM. According to Jimmy Overby, another employee at the store: "They took the doors off the hinges. He was trampled and killed in front of me." Words to the wise: either do your Black Friday shopping from the safety of your own home, or be careful, cool, calm and collected when you venture out.
That's sick! He was doing his job and they couldn't wait until the store was open. I wanna know who started the idea to take the door off. I hope they feel like crap now. They can't enjoy whatever they bought because every time they use it they'll remember. That just goes to show you that you should pay the extra money and go to Target.
yea it wasnt a good scene. i was there, people were pushing and acting crazy. people were actually fighting with the nassau cops when they told us walmart is closed for the whole day. now they said it will reopen saturday at 5am.
That is why I never go to the mall during this bullshit season. people don't give a fuck about shit but themselves.
And the comment from boyprodigy1 is complete CRAP! Stronger doors? Asshole!
Humanity in general is a disgusting pile of shit that deserves to be wiped from the planet. I would love to beleive that this is an isolated incident and that people in general aren't like that. However every damn year for at least 20 years if not more we keep hearing about crap like this happening. I don't know about the rest of the world but America has gotten so damn materialistic that its destroying us.
Oh and yes. I love gadgets and such, however I'd really stop, extend a hand to someone being trampled on the floor then get a fucking TV for $800. But I'm silly that way,
wow, how very pathetic and tragic! good'ol america at it yet again...
just for all those saying the store is not to blame, well, please open your eyes a little.
nearly TWO THOUSAND people were lined up outside the store!! walmart is clearly negligent for not having proper barriers up to allow a hundred in at a time (for example). they should be sued into the next decade.
i mean seriously, someone dies cause others want to shop!!! where else on the planet does this happen!?!?!
and to those idiots that trampled and couldn't control themselves despite saving a few bucks, you should ALL be charged with involuntary manslaughter. everyone in that line should know better. merry christmas, ha!
@AVG
It Absolutely IS WALMART'S FAULT! This is by no means an isolated incident! Although I've never heard of someone actually getting killed, this sort of insanity happens every single year at Walmart on Black Friday! Just last year we saw this thing happen where people feel down and almost got trampled to death!! I don't usually support seemingly frivolous lawsuits, but in this case it is obvious the management of Walmart was negligent in not having proper crowd control and security when they've seen this situation play out time and time again! Shame on them and shame on the hoardes of subhuman beasts that freaking KILLED someone with their reckless behavior!
GOD is going to get AMERICA!! There is a reason we are in a recession!! GOD will take his vengeance on America and other countries that turned from him. This is only the beginning of HIS judgement that will take place. If you are reading this comment, YOU will now be held accountable and will be TORMENTED forever in a BURNING LAKE OF FIRE called HELL!!!!!!!!! UNLESS YOU ARE SAVED. JOHN 3:16 and the BOOK OF ROMANS better explains this. AMERICA will FALL when GOD removes HIS HAND OF PROTECTION FROM HER. Read Revelations to find out more!!! Merry CHRISTmas and remember why we celebrate this season. God should give AMERICA what she deserves just like he gave Rome many years ago.
ps3? fucking seriously. Limited. ahahahahaha. I work at a gamestore. Still have like 8 in the back room and sold ummm oh 1 the entire day. Because they suck and are not hard to get a hold of.
who cares if anyone dies its black friday? u will be saving alot of money. its more important to save money. if someone dies to bad.
I found a video for it here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qmPmIJyi0sc
it sounds like the back of the line pushed everyone forward, hence destroying the door and trampling the woman. I wasn't their but i have been in a small area with a lot of people very excited (concert). The standing area was packed to the fullest and the people push everywhere everything and everybody, and the people aren't people anymore, they are a one mob that can't be controlled. This concert had to be canceled because of the risks.
moral of the story is: mob mentality can kill
I think it is pathetic that a man's life was taken for a few dollars off the normal purchase price of an item or two. You would expect the lines to be a little bit longer at Wal-mart this year because of the economic crisis throughout the world, but this does not mean that people should act like savages and rip a door off its hinges and trample an individual.
Honestly, there are a few things I want to address:
1) For the people saying it is Wal-mart's fault for not being able to take care of this situation with care, you must realize that a conglomerate company like Wal-mart has no control over how individual stores behave; let alone how the regional customers behave.
2) I do agree that the Wal-mart employee's parents should sue, but not Wal-mart or that store themselves. I believe that if this were a perfect scenario, that the vandals who were responsible for the death of this employee should have been caught and then tried. Possibly for man slaughter and vandalism to private property. P.S. To all of you who may think that man slaughter is the same thing as murder, it is not, it is an accidental murder.
so the fact that this store did nothing to control the crowd, didn't call the police when the crowd got to a couple of thousand etc doesn't make them liable for anything. they are the victims too huh
where do you live. I wanna make sure I never move there or visit there.
I got trampled to death once.
Charge them with murder because they came to do their shopping a bit earlier?
This is the result of everyone pushing into the store, not just the first row of people, whom are no less helpless then the worker who died.
More blame should be put to the people pushing at the back of the line, if anything.
@redringofdeath: you have some huge balls to be calling this an 'accident'. an accident is me tapping your car backing out of a parking space. an accident is dropping Mom's favorite china gravy bowl carrying it to the table.
this was uncalled for. People broke into the store (that's right, it was before hours and the doors were locked so they were illegally entering), caused a riot and KILLED SOMEONE. Everyone of those people should not have been made to leave, they should have been detained because everyone of them was part of that murder and should be held accountable. with the most being placed on those that broke in.
nothing, no matter what it is, what price etc is worth a human life. I hope that store has cameras and those at the front of the line get taken in, sued by the family and charged for the crimes they committed.
@Ken, Germans and probably a few others: I'm sorry but your soldier reference doesn't really work. There is no draft in the US right now so anyone is overseas signed up to be part of the military. they know what they are getting into, they know that they could be wounded or even killed. it is a risk that is actually part of the job.
this guy, I promise you, was not told that one day some mob of greedy idiots would trample him to death. its not in the employee handbook. what likely is in the handbook is a reference to his right to a workplace free of harassment and danger.
some companies do it right. I work at an Apple store and when the iphones came out we
had security, roped lines etc. for days even. the company mandated for the first weekend and then allowed stores to decide how much longer they needed it based on local crowds. no fuss about costs or anything. at my store, anyone that went through the line properly was given an armband with a number and the sales staff walked to the door and called out the next number in line and brought people in one at a time. If you tried to jump your number your number was taken and you were sent to the back of the line as a penalty (and
if we ran out of the one you wanted, tough cookies for you). or you walked in claiming you wanted to look at a computer and tried to grab a sales person to sell you a phone the first question was 'where's your armband' and out to the line you were sent. anyone that gave us
shit was given an escort out and was not allowed to go to the line. which was great for when folks started screaming and cussing at the girls cause ATT wouldn't approve them for a line without a huge deposit cause their credit sucked or the account is under someone
else's name or they wanted the phone with no contract (which you can't do)
the fact that Walmart didn't have security/police outside to keep a perimeter and to force a quiet line that was orderly etc is why they are accountable. but those that broken open the door deserve some criminal charges. unlawful entry, trespassing, destruction of property, endangerment and yes even manslaughter.
Everyone that compares this to death by trampling that happens because of food or any other reason this is not the same! These idiots were looking to get bargains on garbage items that are going to be obsolete in a year or 2. This whole thing makes me sick and I survived a genocide. This death is because of people’s blind greed, and if a good percentage had a heart they would have been able to stop to help, if the first 300 people stopped to help the next 1700 would have had a lot of trouble continuing to trample. This cannot be compared to religious migrations or food lines in third world nations, one is religious fanaticism and one is survival, this is for a slightly larger TV than you already own, this is idiotic. There can be no justice for this, the man died without dignity at a terrible job. I hope karma deals the people who trampled this poor man a hand, and they get trampled themselves. I don’t care what country or culture this happened in, I live in America, when people die because others needed to buy something that badly it is a poor reflection upon that society.
this was a very crude and cold hearted act and an insult to the young mans family i do believe they should sue
