Energy Sistem rolls out 4040 Touch PMP

As far as PMPs off the beaten path go, Energy Sistem's always seem to be a slight cut above the rest, and it's new 4040 Touch looks to be no exception, with it packing some reasonably high-end features into a bargain-priced but not too cheap-looking package. That includes a 2.8-inch QVGA touchscreen, 16GB of storage, a microSD card slot for further expansion, a built-in microphone, an FM tuner, support for most of the usual audio and video formats, and even support for Microsoft's PlayFX, all for a fairly reasonable €120, or about $150. If that's more than you need, the company apparently also recently rolled out its 5020 and 5021 models, which drop the touchscreen and cut the storage down to 4GB, and the price down to €85, or just over $100. Just don't be too surprised if they wind up looking slightly less polished that Energy Sistem's photos.

Wow... I think that's an original design. For real. I've never seen anything that I can honestly say they "stole" the idea from. I just might get one. Someone tell me what it is a ripoff of before I waste my money- go!
Muhammed @ Nov 28th 2008 4:58PM
It's a rip-off of the Neonode N2.

Wow, it's actually an affordable alternative to an iTouch.
Patriks7 @ Nov 28th 2008 5:04PM
Seriously, it's an iPod Touch! -.- it's like calling the other iPods iClassic and iNano :|

iTouched -- never mind.
BigD145 @ Nov 28th 2008 5:17PM

But other than that, this has two bonuses that the Touch does not have: FM Tuner and SD slot. It does not have a million little applications to nickle and dime you with, which may or may not be a bonus depending on who you are.
who? @ Nov 28th 2008 5:31PM
Nobody, and I mean nobody (just so I'm quite clear: "Nobody" = not a single living or non-living thing on the planet Earth) should buy this as a replacement for an iPod Touch. A helpful sidekick? Sure! I'm considering it for that exact purpose (so I can watch a video and browse the web at the same time) right now!
However, if you consider this to be a 'replacement' for your purchase of an iPod Touch then trust me, you were most assuredly not looking for an iPod Touch. Period.
Phoenix @ Nov 28th 2008 5:48PM
Good luck looking at web and video at the same time... whilst following both... and without the thing locking up.
you do realise how prone Safari is to failing?
GiF @ Nov 28th 2008 7:27PM
The interface could NEVER compare to the iPod touch!!!!
Also, it uses a stylus, something that usually gets lost or gets damaged or falls between the car seats.
BigD145 @ Nov 28th 2008 8:12PM
A stylus?! Oh, no. An object that is the responsibility of the user to keep track of. Gosh. That's horrible. Why don't you just not buy anything because you might leave it on a bus or something?
who? @ Nov 28th 2008 9:17PM
@Pheonix
What is it that you think I intend to do when I have both? I plan on watching a video on this one and using Safari (which I am afraid in the case of the iPod Touch 2G, you are sadly misinformed about the crash rate) on my Touch. You can't play a video on the iPhones or iPod Touches while using other apps, so you can see how that would be a useful Robin to my Batman of a iPod.
I'm unsure as to how you became confused (misinformation on Safari and/or the iPod Touch's OS I'm sure), but there it is in Laymen's terms. Questions? Comments?
ybd @ Nov 28th 2008 5:02PM
Wow, that looks hot. Too bad the screen is so tiny.
