PS3, Wii users get Psyclone TouchCharge pads, too

We caught sight of Psyclone's WildCharger-based TouchCharge kit for the Xbox 360 a few weeks ago but, in case you missed it, the company is also offering similar kits for the PlayStation 3 and Wii. At $49.99 the PS3 version is actually the cheapest of the lot, due to the fact that it's able to use the controller's own rechargeable battery, while the $59.99 Wii version and $69.99 Xbox 360 version each include some rechargeable batteries of their own courtesy of Psyclone. The charging pads themselves are, of course, interchangeable, and you can even charge more than one device on a single pad, although finding the necessary controller adapters separately seems to be another matter.

first comment?
GenoMalice @ Nov 28th 2008 9:41PM
..... And hopefully your last of such comment.....
z3r0D @ Nov 29th 2008 2:15AM
I'll never understand why getting the first comment is such a big deal. It's a comment on an internet story which will probably never be viewed a week from now. Are you in some sort of history book? Do you win some sort a prize?
Just stop it. You add nothing, and you're just being a dick. Find something productive to do with your life.

I wonder if this would have problems with the rubber casing Wiimotes are enclosed in...
iKrolm @ Nov 28th 2008 11:14PM
its a PS3 controller, not a wiimote... if they made one for the wiimote then yes, it would work through the rubber case
iKrolm @ Nov 28th 2008 11:16PM
wow, i phrased that really poorly. if they make it for the wiimote, then it works through the rubber casing
happyguy @ Nov 29th 2008 12:21AM
awesome
Lionbacker @ Nov 29th 2008 7:03PM
It doesn't matter ikrolm, you're an idiot either way.
Nightstar @ Nov 28th 2008 9:41PM
Its a real thing??? O_O
Chris @ Nov 28th 2008 9:41PM
So, when can I charge my phone without wires?
no_one @ Nov 30th 2008 11:03AM
I would rather wait for 2nd or better 3rd generation of these things. High wattage emitters? I do not want to have one of these close to me, bedroom Wi-fi is still considered a hazard by some, now this is like hundred times worse.
electron @ Nov 28th 2008 9:42PM
cool! so that is like a wireless charger for your controller? that's pretty nifty! :)
ack154 @ Nov 28th 2008 9:55PM
Technically, yes. But the contacts on the bottom of the controller have to make... contact... with the base for it to charge. So ya, no wires... but contact still needs to be made.
John @ Nov 28th 2008 10:43PM
Well, it's a contact based system. The idea is that this way, instead of plugging it in, you just set it down. Nifty, but whether it's fifty dollars of nifty is debatable.
Connor @ Nov 28th 2008 9:42PM
Who won the Zune?
Blazeitup123 @ Nov 28th 2008 9:42PM

I could think of better ways to WASTE money. FAIL!
Geek45 @ Nov 28th 2008 9:48PM
wait, who won the Archos?
TavisJohn @ Nov 28th 2008 9:50PM
OK this is interesting... But expensive, and it is not contactless. So for Wii users you have to remove the silicone cover in order to charge.
I'll pass! If it was contactless, and came with support for 4 Wii controllers, than MAYBE I would be intersted.
mrChin @ Nov 29th 2008 12:49PM
please oh PLEASE explain to me how you charge a battery without contact?
this may be my rudimentary high school physics coming into play but last i checked, batteries are recharged through re-exposure to an electric current. and since the only wireless electricity that comes to mind is lightning, i'm a little unable to wrap my mind around how that would work.
TavisJohn @ Nov 29th 2008 1:13PM

Maybe you need to go back to school... ;)
Dolph @ Nov 28th 2008 9:57PM
As novel as this idea is, I still can't see why you couldn't just plug your USB cord into the PS3 controller and charge it that way. The "pad" itself still utilizes a wire, correct?
Dolph @ Nov 28th 2008 9:58PM
My apologies - checking the other kits I notice that the pad is indeed wireless. The picture for the PS3 one is deceptive :P Still, seems like a little bit of overkill.
Kelvinrose @ Nov 28th 2008 9:59PM
defenitly cool.
Trevor @ Nov 28th 2008 10:08PM
Technology is amazing, we're already so close to wireless power transfer it's unbelievable.
andres @ Nov 29th 2008 1:44AM
we can already wirelessly transfer power, its just not economical yet.
Ben @ Nov 28th 2008 10:14PM
Come talk to me when it can charge my phone. Specifically a LG Chocolate 3.
Peiho @ Nov 28th 2008 10:16PM
...
blaw @ Nov 28th 2008 10:17PM
wish it could charge my ipod touch... ahh, ok.
PingMasterGoat @ Nov 28th 2008 10:21PM
Hmmm....now unto wireless charging technology so I dont have to drop my pad while smacking some biatches
yopladas @ Nov 28th 2008 10:24PM
I think I saw a wireless mouse that works like that to be charged.
cfrock @ Nov 28th 2008 10:25PM
Entry
nxp3 @ Nov 28th 2008 10:41PM
It has to contact the mat...and how is that different than lets say a docking station? The ps3 will come out with a touchpad which would render this useless since you won't be able to attach the charging adapter to the controller. I guess you can't everything.
Firehawk64 @ Nov 28th 2008 10:40PM
its good the 360 doesn't need this
Fire Hazard @ Nov 28th 2008 11:03PM
It's all fun and games till somebody sets their car keys down on the turbo charge kit recharge pad. That's when the fireworks start.
jrider @ Nov 28th 2008 11:06PM
Has anyone had a chance to play with anything like this yet?
ninjazrtehrad @ Nov 28th 2008 11:26PM
sweet pad but it seems a bit unnecessary.
Dan @ Nov 28th 2008 11:20PM
Ummm, this has been on their site for a month, same time as the 360 variant, now and it just now comes to the front.
TuxBobble @ Nov 28th 2008 11:35PM
I'd love to get my hands on something like this...
aidan @ Nov 29th 2008 2:48AM
Exactly what I wanted!
Please Please Please.

Cool gadget~!

This is so ridiculously cool. I saw this just today!

Why do holiday weekends and free giveaways bring out all the rejected, illiterate, and annoying? Engadget stinks of tweens on dad's computer.
Davin Black @ Nov 29th 2008 10:24PM
Not everyone types out their responses in MS Word before posting, tool. It's a bunch of comments that you don't have to read, so it's really not that serious. There really isn't all that much maturity and culture you can bring to an article about video game chargers; this isn't a blog on the opera, or wine tasting.
(And oddly enough, most tweens have their own computer nowadays. Funny, right?)
