Acer's K10 pocket projector announced, projected for January

Tiny projectors are pretty much a dime a dozen these days, so we'll be honest, the Acer K10 kind of looks like more of the same. Sure, it's small -- just 1.2 pounds -- but that's not nearly as small as some (and certainly not small enough to be impressive). It's an SVGA projector with an 800 x 600 resolution, and it's got an LED backlight with about 20,000 estimated life hours, delivering 100 ANSI lumens with a contrast ratio of 1000:1. The K10 also boasts both S-video and VGA connections. It's a little hard to say, but this might be what we've been searching for to project our tiny kitten photo collection upon our walls. It's supposed to be ready for a January release and it'll go for about $443.

It's so cute.
spyker @ Dec 2nd 2008 5:05PM
Haha, ya. It doesn't look like the other pocket projectors. It looks more like a baby full size projector.
a ham sandwich @ Dec 2nd 2008 6:02PM
how can you tell? i can't get any sense of scale from that picture whatsoever. i could see it as being an inch wide and a 2 feet wide. kinda dizzying, actually.
roscoP @ Dec 2nd 2008 7:35PM
The size of the wood grain is your scale. If that thing is 2 feet wide then the table top was cut from some gigantic tree. It's probably about 4"x3"x2".
insane.uk @ Dec 3rd 2008 4:15AM
Wait till you see the size of the power brick!
Samboini @ Dec 2nd 2008 4:51PM
Is that a pocket projector in your pocket, or are you just pleased to see me.
Lowest Ranked @ Dec 2nd 2008 5:25PM
You'd probably want a pocket projector protector in that situation.
SITEiNK @ Dec 2nd 2008 4:53PM
it is pretty cool, but how much do replacement bulbs run for this thing and how long do they last?
DarkLight @ Dec 2nd 2008 5:01PM
There's no bulb to replace - LEDs last practically forever.
And BTW Laura, it's "a LED", not "an LED"
Blaine Oliver @ Dec 2nd 2008 5:01PM
20,000 hours, RTFA?
Samboini @ Dec 2nd 2008 5:04PM
DarkLight, is it not an LED, but a Light Emitting Diode? Maybe my English is sub-par.
jd.junk1 @ Dec 2nd 2008 5:14PM
And BTW Laura, it's "a LED", not "an LED"
Wrong, unless you pronounce it like the word 'led'.
An LED, a LIFO structure. It's all in how it's pronounced.
Loonie @ Dec 2nd 2008 5:15PM
If you said out loud "a LED", you'd sound like a simpleton.
DarkLight @ Dec 2nd 2008 6:54PM
OK, I stand corrected...
English is not my native language, and in my language it IS pronounced like "led".. For some reason I never replaced it in my mind with a proper English pronunciation :-P
Lowest Ranked @ Dec 2nd 2008 8:17PM
You pronounce Light Emitting Diode as led? Thats gotta be confusing. What language is that?
Freakin Ijit @ Dec 2nd 2008 4:58PM
So when you get done with your presentation, you unplug this sucker, pop it in your pocket, and burn to a crisp?
StalematE @ Dec 2nd 2008 5:18PM
You could get a pocket protector for your pocket projector.
Thi mam(kris120890) @ Dec 2nd 2008 5:10PM
Madame june must be proud of that Headline
Dr. Spaceman @ Dec 2nd 2008 5:14PM
Projected for January. I see what you did there.
dale1v @ Dec 2nd 2008 5:56PM
damn I was gonna write that.
StillAlive @ Dec 2nd 2008 5:21PM
well, at least it'll have twice the lifetime of 3M's MPro, which is supposed to have 10,000 hours and no lamp replacement.
Taylor @ Dec 2nd 2008 5:33PM
10000 hours is still good. This came up on Slashdot when they mentioned the 3mmpro. 10,000 hours, at 8 hours a day, EVERY day, would last 3.4 years, and for the price of the projector, that's 28 cents per DAY of use. And if you're using it 8 hours a day every day, you'd better be doing some business-type stuff with it, in which case an expense like that is negligible, to say the least.
If you only used it two hours per day, every day, it would last for 13.7 YEARS.
People don't seem to realize it, but 10,000 or 20,000 hours is basically forever, because we will have such better projectors by the time the thing runs out, it won't matter.

I see what you did there.
Taylor @ Dec 2nd 2008 5:27PM
Crap, and i JUST bought the Dell version that has half the brightness! At least i got it for $400 and not the $500 that dell is asking. And either way, mine shows up today, not january! :)

chris @ Dec 4th 2008 6:51PM
would this work with a ps3? does it have a sound output?
MikeR @ Dec 2nd 2008 6:51PM
Wowzers ... A lot of Projecting going on about this .....
Chuck @ Dec 3rd 2008 3:42PM
And the point of a micro projector is what? 100 lumens? The only place this would be worthwhile is on the dark side of the moon to look at a 2" x 3" image or a postage stamp... I'll stick with my 25k Lumen Barco.
Snowman @ Dec 28th 2008 9:13PM
100 lumens is not a lot in comparison to standard sized projectors BUT it is 10 times brighter than other pico projectors e.g Optoma, RSX , Aiptek etc. Does anyone know how 100 lumens compares to 10 in real world scenarios ? Is there an appreciable difference ? All I want is a projector I can mount on a Gorillapod , use a wireless keyboard and mouse and work on my PC from my bed with its display on the ceiling in a dark room. Bliss !
