Anyone outside the US probably. My guess is this'll be free on contract in the UK.
does it matter? thats not an image of the world.. that's the actual world. Steve Jobs created an iPhone so big it could swallow the earth whole. Dont press the decline button because we will all die
You might want to check Touch Pro, which has 2x iPhone's resolution, has copy / paste and is available now. Oh, and it has 2 extra keyboard rows compared to the N97.
"One has copy and paste, A2DP, a QWERTY keyboard, and a screen resolution which is 1.5 times larger than its rival."
Maybe it's just me and the fact that it's nearly two in the morning, but none of the engadget articles (nor the links that they reference) state the Nokia specs that you are stating. Not even the video posted in the linked article shows copy and paste. You must be thinking of another phone.
"Meanwhile, the rival has a (inconsistently) walled garden and a smug bastard swimming in sacrificial fanboy donations from Cupertino."
Say what you will about Job's smugness, but realize this: Apple has accomplished what it has set out to do - make itself different from Microsoft. That appeals to people, and they become the fanboys you so deride. Because of these fanboys, Apple will have a stable share in the computer marketplace for at least a few more years, while garnering a majority of the mp3/smartphone market.
Love 'em or loathe 'em, Apple's at the top. Can you blame them for being smug?
I honestly think that Nokia needs to work on their publicity more. As good as their handsets are, those handsets won't make a dent if no one's heard of them.
The Touch Pro is also fatter, has a much smaller screen, a worse camera, and even worse battery life.
However, I *will* be extremely interested in seeing what HTC will be making in response to this device. HTC HD Pro? That's a "...Fight!" I would love to see.

It's almost five in the morning here so I don't blame you. You can find the data sheet which shows the screen resolution and A2DP deliciousness here:
And for the last bit, when was the last time you didn't see copy and paste on an S60 flagship device? Especially one with a QWERTY keyboard? Hell, even Nokia's non-S60 internet tablets (which this device takes nearly all of its design cues from) have copy and paste.

Certainly! And even better, they've forced all the mobile phone companies to make even better products. For that I am eternally grateful...
"Love 'em or loathe 'em, Apple's at the top. Can you blame them for being smug?"
...However, I certainly don't have to sit around and say nothing while a hilariously uneven comparison is being staged by Engadget for the benefit of getting more ad revenue. Then again, I guess we just played into that, didn't we?
*shrug*
"I honestly think that Nokia needs to work on their publicity more. As good as their handsets are, those handsets won't make a dent if no one's heard of them."
I agree! Although, that's only really true for North America. Nokias are so commonplace the moment I cross the Atlantic.
Then again, the USA (unfortunately) isn't really the place for really nice and uncompromising superphones; we're left with the scraps thrown to us by evil bastard carriers :(
One also will have 3 times the price. If Nokia actually wanted to compete in this market they should have skimmed down on some features and got their price at an introductory level. This will sell for something like $700+ or you can get an Iphone for $200.
Where in the world can you get an iPhone for just $200?
Last time I checked, they cost (on AT&T): $200 + (24*$30).
If this phone goes on sale at $550, then it will cost $10 less than the iPhone 3G ($550+(24*$15)). How come no one remembers AT&T data plans cost half as much for unlocked Nokia phones?
But even if it costs slightly more than the iPhone, let's not forget that you're getting quite a lot more phone for the price as well.
Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
It's a knockout. D-UH.
Finally, an upgrade to my n95. Skip the rest of junk
because it looks like a 1st gen iPhone...
What is this about resistive touch screen.. oooh that is a bag of hurt
Oh no... Someone's gonna get PWN'D :O
Apple hateboys activated!
and vice versa
The N97 looks easier to hold, more scratch resistant, more useful, less hipster-y
Basically better
That iPhone looks mangled. All these [insert new phone here] vs. iPhone: FIGHT! are taking a toll on Apple's prodigy device lol
Im waiting for the N97 VS Xperia. It would be like an Xecution to me.
first!
at what
Real fast guys!! Cool phone(s)~
When will the clone be available on Deal Extreme?
When will your lame comments?
*points* THAT one!
Definitely looks better in black.
That was fast.
Yup. Here we go again...I'm really digging the N97 though. The styling is really impressive. I'm looking forward to it.
Nokia FTW!

@iEye:
You left out the integrated hadron collider
does it matter?
thats not an image of the world.. that's the actual world.
Steve Jobs created an iPhone so big it could swallow the earth whole.
Dont press the decline button because we will all die
HAR HAR HAR!
lol
Thickness comparison please!
this is the important thing for consumers and the Nokia is BIGGER so I do not think it will do very well, probably not even as well as the N95.
This is better suited to go against the Xperia, which even then it looses.
iPhone: 115 mm x 61 mm x 11 mm
iPhone 3G: 115.5 mm x 62.1 mm x 12.3 mm
Nokia N97: 117.2 mm x 55.3 mm x 15.9 mm
It's beautiful.

Here you go (sorta):

dude, u can tell the thickness by the shadow!
its atleast twice in size!
PUNCH HIM IN THE BUTTON!

You Shall Not forget the 5Mpx + flash + autofocus Camera !
32 Gb vs 8/16 Gb.
Félix, we want to educate people, not completely disillusion them and make them abjectly depressed ;)

Copy and paste is a standard on Nokia phones, unlike the one on the left..

WINNAR IS U
2 years later?
It took nokia 2 years to come out with something better?
too little too late!
Wait for the next iPhone!!!
-integrated pico projector
-holographic display
-Zero-Point Energy Field Manipulator
Integrated flux capacitor also???
Nokia already had something better even before the first iPhone was out. It was called the N95.
Who the f**k would be able to afford to buy a phone with all that?
That can't have a phone for $600, do a revision for $200, and another revision for god knows how much.
still no copy/paste, MMs, or 21st century bluetooth support. \o/
holy crap! there's no iPhone 3.0 until 2019?
I'm guessing whoever that number belongs to will be getting a lot of calls.
Hah, it is blurred now. Fail.
